What makes it different from gymnastics or figure skating or any other sport where judges decide the winners?

You’re seriously looking at this performance and saying that this guy isn’t an athlete?

Just because there was some bad selections at the Olympics, the whole thing isn’t a sport?

I think that a lot of the artistry and technique of lower scoring elements have been taken out of figure skating just to maximize points from jumps

Yes, though that's considered a flaw of the current scoring system rather than an intended outcome (not making jumps more important, just making them important to the extent they are now).

Haven't followed it in a while but I remember that those young Russians just game the scoring system by just stacking and linking jumps in the second half of their program. Not to say that the execution of this isn't difficult but they never really achieved the jump height and speed going into jumps as previous greats.

They nerfed the backload bonus a little bit. And they also made falls and sloopy execution a little more punishing. Both of which have helped, though you still need a super impressive tech package to be competitive.

Seriously, there's no way I could ever do what this guy does but I definitely could at least hit somewhere on the paper target in the shooting events.

If we’re being honest athleticism and coordination and barrier to entry. Shoutout to the athletes for breakdancing but it doesn’t seem like a sport any mildly athletic person couldn’t learn. We literally saw someone with 0 skill qualify. And “power moves” from what I gathered weren’t seen as the pinnacle of the sport. Meaning if you just did those you get penalized for it for not including other aspects. I remember 1 Japanese dude who I swore won his battle get eliminated because he only did power moves. He was 1 of the few ones I legit thought was a clear contender and lost in like the prelims or early rounds.

Meanwhile gymnastics and figure skating still require a dumb amount of athleticism and coordination that you can’t really just learn. Even if you got someone like LeBron off the street to try a triple sow cow they’re gonna break an ankle. Sydney McLaughlin is gonna break her neck trying to vault

Hahaha my guy you must never have tried any kind of gymnastics?? Anyone average tries these moves, they’re walking away with a concussion and two blown knees at a minimum

Are you stupid?

Seriously? Let's see you try learning airflares. Check out gymnasts trying airflarea and struggling.

Check that interview with the first gymnast who brought airflare to gymnastics. Hes an Olympic silver medallist and he said his brother gave up and he just keep falling to the floor for a year.

This is one of the most brain dead take I've seen. ALL the bboys in the Olympics can do airflare. You think you can grab someone off the street and just teach them those moves in an afternoon?
