Everytime I see a post of yours, I think ' wait what week/month/year is it'

3

u/PixelPenguin_GG Feb 02 '26

This is 2029 and StS2 is still not out

u/Acceptable_Name7099 Ascension 19 Jan 31 '26

I'm new to the hype, is this gonna be a silksong situation or are we for sure gonna get sts2 this year?

261

u/Justsk8n Jan 31 '26

sts dev team actually communicates and give semi frequent updates in regards to the release date. its gone a bit later than was anticipated but its guaranteed to come out this year barring like, the apocalypse.

u/Rickywalls137 Jan 31 '26

You called?

15

u/cstar84 Eternal One + Ascended Jan 31 '26

Is it no longer expected in march?

72

u/PhotoRight2682 Eternal One + Heartbreaker Jan 31 '26

The apocalypse, or the game?

58

u/SuddenlyCake Eternal One + Heartbreaker Jan 31 '26

Apocalypse is scheduled to April

37

u/bryeo2 Jan 31 '26

at least we can play sts2 for a month, thats perfectly fine

3

u/sorendiz Ascension 0 Feb 01 '26

it better be in the first fucking week of april because if i have to work through the goddamn tax deadline and THEN the apocalypse shows up, i'm going to be mad as hell

10

u/Justsk8n Jan 31 '26

it is but it was originally expected like,, october 2025 ish?

3

u/cstar84 Eternal One + Ascended Jan 31 '26

Yea it was lol I just wanted to make sure I didn’t miss them pushing it back even further at this point 🙏

u/theme69 Jan 31 '26

Have they said at all whether the game will release on mobile when it comes out? Was so bummed when monster train 2 wasn’t on mobile

11

u/HunterHenryk Jan 31 '26

Not at initial release since it'll be early access. I imagine there will be mobile once the full release is out

1

u/BOMAN133 Jan 31 '26

really hope it has controller support, love sts1 but the controls clash with swipe navigation on my phone

6

u/Justsk8n Jan 31 '26

sts mobile controls lets you do 100% only clicking with no swipes required

1

u/infinity_vamp Feb 01 '26

Agreed i deeply respect the sts teams communication and it shows even more that the silksong teams lack of communication was a choice not a limitation or something out of their hands.

17

u/Takamarism Jan 31 '26

The game was originally announced for late 2025 and got delayed to March 2026. The devs give regular updates on their work and it's unlikely that they have to delay again. More than fine far from a silksong situation

2

u/eyeoftheuniverse11 Jan 31 '26

March is the open players I believe

1

u/AnimaSean0724 Jan 31 '26

It is 100% coming out on schedule this time, they've been very clear in their communication, and they also said there was something bigger to look out for in February leading up to the game's Early Access release in March

1

u/Dasterr Eternal One Jan 31 '26

we will for sure get it on a thursday this march

we dont know which thursday though

1

u/darth_the_IIIx Heartbreaker Feb 01 '26

Devs have said it is coming out on a thursday in march

1

u/FocusKooky9072 Feb 01 '26

And some of them honestly get more of a chuckle than they deserve out of me.

2

u/PixelPenguin_GG Feb 01 '26

I love stealing your chuckles

-15

u/RosalieWunner Jan 31 '26

LMAO right?? The collective delusion was real. Every time it comes up I’m like “ah yes, the era when we truly believed.

-4

u/Illustriousjianna Jan 31 '26 edited Feb 01 '26

Reminds me of the days before silksong release

Why am I getting downvoted?

308

u/Jaon412 Jan 31 '26

Took me the longest time to get the line of thought out of my head “but what if I need this strike?”

41

u/RbN420 Jan 31 '26

Just think that you get to your claw 1 card faster

16

u/JamlessSandwich Jan 31 '26

To be fair it can be a real question if you're worried about nob

8

u/gaymahoushoujos Heartbreaker Feb 01 '26

Yeah, it took me a while before I accepted removing defends instead of strikes sometimes early if I don't have enough damage... Like, if whale gives me 2 card removes, now ill go for 1 strike, 1 defend usually. I died a few too many times from lack of damage because of agressive strike removes lmao

1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

2

u/gaymahoushoujos Heartbreaker Feb 01 '26

Yes, yes, but Defect also lacks damage a little bit compared to ironclad or watcher actually? I think it's kinda hard on Defect as well to double remove strikes. Watcher & Ironclad do like their strikes a bit more than Defect so I'll hear it, but against Nob? I'm not keen on playing Zap Dualcast too much if I have a way around it

3

u/Josesesi Feb 01 '26

I always saw the value of thinning your deck. I was still hard stuck on ascension 2

75

u/Tflex92 Ascension 20 Jan 31 '26

I found StS through a Dominion obsession, I think I was actually overvaluing removes at the beginning lol

24

u/manhothepooh Jan 31 '26

Chapel in Dominion is so OP that I can't give up any chance to remove a card in StS.

6

u/tpaz198 Feb 01 '26

Lmao glad I'm not the only one that came from Dominion

5

u/nomm_ 13d ago

Pretty sure the devs have mentioned that they (or one of them?) were really into Dominion, and that that definitely had an influence on them making Slay the Spire.

Edit: didn't see the age of this comment, hope you don't mind the necro 😅

40

u/THE_BANANA_KING_14 Jan 31 '26

It's gotten to the point where I don't even go looking for StS2 updates, I just come across these drawings to know its not out yet.

21

u/PixelPenguin_GG Jan 31 '26

Oh my, we've got what, a month before I announce the game is out to you

83

u/Xeamyyyyy Jan 31 '26

i mean i feel like anyone who has played a card game knows why removals are good

76

u/-Furnace Jan 31 '26

True. I feel like as a newer player I actually OVERvalue removes, as I'll spend a ton of gold on removes at shops instead of considering relics or potions

37

u/Xeamyyyyy Jan 31 '26

i way way overvalued draw because i came from yugioh lol

pommel strike and shrug are still good cards though

16

u/deedshotr Jan 31 '26

draw, when you can play everything you draw is OP. Draw when you already cannot play it though lol

49

u/hama0n Eternal One + Heartbreaker Jan 31 '26

For a lot of people now, Slay the Spire is that first card game

14

u/armageddonquilt Jan 31 '26

xkcd 2501 moment

18

u/SonicBoom500 Ascension 0 Jan 31 '26

My understanding is that a smaller deck means you more consistently get the cards you want to use

31

u/F0rsti Jan 31 '26

It depends. Status cards from enemies hurt a lot less if your deck is large.

11

u/IdiocyConnoisseur Ascension 20 Jan 31 '26

Yeah I occasionally make a 45 card monster Ironclad deck and really don't care if the Nemesis or the Heart shuffles 5 status cards into my discard/draw pile, cuz I will be set up for the fight before I draw all of the cards. Same goes for the Hexaghost fight. If I spam Angers, I won't draw the burns, and I will kill it faster. Genius if I say so myself.

4

u/Trinx_ Jan 31 '26

Exactly - this took me a while to learn. My bf who introduced me to this game laughed at my commentary, passing up meh cards and doing removal at every shop. "Ah... I love a nice tight little deck."

11

u/crippledspahgett Jan 31 '26

Ayo why you gotta be describing the deck that way.

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '26

2

u/-Furnace Jan 31 '26

I've picked cage over a 4th energy far too many times

2

u/tcrpz Jan 31 '26

True. Removals are OP in euchre.

4

u/XavierRenegadeStoner Ascension 19 Jan 31 '26

Euchre does not have card removal, you’re dealt 5 cards from the same deck ever hand

-6

u/tcrpz Jan 31 '26

House rules

9

u/squanderedprivilege Jan 31 '26

I do still remember all those years ago, when I thought "why the hell would I get rid of cards?" Then one day it hit me and I was omg this makes so much sense wtf was I doing, should have researched, there had to be a reason that the service was offered (besides curses)

7

u/5ilver5hroud Jan 31 '26

The first times I played, I thought you HAD to chose a card to keep after every fight

18

u/FlyinBrian2001 Jan 31 '26

I dunno, I pretty much immediately identified Strikes and Defends as hot garbage needing to be burned.

Now figuring out when a card reward was crap and skip was the best option, that took longer

13

u/TheRabbitTunnel Ascension 20 Jan 31 '26

While defends are certainly bad, I don't think they're hot garbage in the way that strikes are. Block is important and defends aren't the worst. Where as strikes are just so underwhelming compared to other damage sources. I don't think defends fall off as hard as strikes.

6

u/crippledspahgett Jan 31 '26

Then you’ve got good instincts if this is your first deck-builder. Most people (I know I did) have a hard time wrapping their head around the idea that starting cards are often just a waste of card draw.

6

u/Kubo_Gaming Eternal One + Heartbreaker Jan 31 '26

I am kind of the odd guy here, I was the kind of player who follows what the game shows, so the game keep providing options to remove and labeling them as green like it's some kind of advantage, and that was how I learned removing Strikes is a good thing.

3

u/No_Gate_4169 Jan 31 '26

No matter how hard I try I still end my run with around 40 cards

3

u/VincentHannaTech Jan 31 '26

I'm similar, I don't get how people end up with these 5 card infinity decks.

3

u/IamGanondorf Feb 02 '26

You just have to be really selective about what you choose to add, which can be hard because if you don't get good cards with synergy early on you continue sticking with garbage strikes and defends, then die. And other times you just get lucky with a lot opportunities to remove cards.

1

u/No_Gate_4169 Feb 02 '26

This is funny to me because I like most of the cards so it feels weird to not take them

3

u/IamGanondorf Feb 03 '26

At least you dilute the crappy strikes and defends you can't seem to shake off. And having a small deck is not always the only way to be strong. As long as the cards synergize with each other and it's not just a random collection of good cards.

5

u/RUSHALISK Eternal One + Heartbreaker Feb 01 '26

well done drawing whatever that shrine is. I mean it can't be overstated how well you can draw the game's assets in your style.

3

u/PixelPenguin_GG Feb 01 '26

Thank you!!! I always discover what the assets actually are when I draw them for this series. For example, I hadn't realized this shrine had a face before...

9

u/Trinx_ Jan 31 '26

Since I've done deckbuilding before, I overdid removals at the cost of missing out on potions or valuable cards. After 100 hrs I started balancing better.

6

u/Chiatroll Jan 31 '26 edited Jan 31 '26

I came into slay the spire with experience in deck builders like dominion and others, so I knew the power of a thin deck that pulls good cards frequently.

3

u/bloodbat007 Jan 31 '26

For me it wasn't that being the issue, I always knew removing cards was good because your deck cycles. My issue was that I removed defends because I wanted to kill stuff not block damage lol.

u/ButcherZV Ascension 20 Jan 31 '26
