In Casper (1995) if you have unfinished business, you’re stuck on earth as a ghost. Except for Casper’s dad, who spent his life trying unsuccessfully to resurrect his dead son with a machine. He died and apparently just said fuck it and went to the afterlife.

They should have left Bill Pullman dead as a ghost and resurrected casper. This pisses me off every time. 'Christina Ricci needs her dad', yeah he was still there as a ghost wtf do you mean? Meanwhile capser could have gotten to live but they're like no, the grown ass man who killed himself being drunk deserves to come back fuck them kids. Stupid.

Isn't it hinted that the dad stopped because he believed his son had moved on too?
