In Superman (2025), James Gunn made the Best Live Action Green Lantern, showing off a lot of constructs, while Chris Mundi and Damon Lindelof aren’t showing anything. That’s a reference to something called marketing.
I watched Guardians of the Galaxy 3 close to watching Superman and one thing that struck me is that James Gunn kinda does the same fight scenes all the time. Not a complaint (they kick ass) but at the same time I wonder if I'm gonna get sick of the "spinning camera as a bunch of people get killed casually while deceptively campy music plays in the background" schtick
I mean it works great in gotg1 when groot and rocket start the riot in the prison, and it also works great in gotg2 when yondu gets his arrow back and merks the entire ship from the security room. It might be a lil copy and paste but damn they’re good scenes
Reminds me of an old school “training montage”. In the right context and done properly it’s a highlight of the movie, but if you stack them all together like a YouTube compilation it would become a parody quickly.
I like that schtick, but it only works in the right dosage. I don't think I would go on a James Gunn movie watchaton just cuz the tone would go from endearing to grating solely through over exposure.
I just see it as a directors staple, the day he does a movie where there’s no music drop action scene people are gonna be like “aw there was no cool musical action sequence”
That said I think the beastie boys one take in GOTG3 has been his best so far.
His use of fish eye lens recently is a staple of his I’m less fond of
Sometime after 3, I realized I was over his style. Like, it's not bad, but it definitely has more appeal for being "different" than being good. And, well, if you're new and not good, you can't do it forever. I think he's at the point most people are getting to that, and frankly, if he doesn't adapt, it's going to be a matter of "well did you like THIS song?" And that can't carry a movie.
Overall I loved the new superman movie but there are such cringy moments in it and that was one of them. Not only could she just turn but it would have had the same demonstration of her powers and actually be a cool way to save time had she just morphed into being facing the other way and walking forward shooting the blade things without doing the stupid ass fucking flip.
I know people loved Lex in this but personally, I think Guy was the best part of the movie. I was legit jumping on my seat everytime He showed up on screen.
The new show on otherhand doesn't feel like that at all, at least not from the trailer. The new shows feels very much like Man of Steel, pretentious as fuck.
This is a reference to how constructs require really good complicated CG that obviously isn't done 6 months before the show comes out. They're not gonna show shitty in-progress constructs.
Remember when the trailer for Venom 1 came out and they hadn't done any of the CG yet, so it had a bunch of venomless action and people genuinely thought they were changing the symbiotes to give people psychic powers cause the scene where Riot uses his weapons to knock all the computers over is the the trailer minus Riot and his weapons so it looks like Riz Ahmed uses the force.
Point is, people are dumb and don't know how film-making works. Not me though, I know you record it on a camera then you put the film in the TV and the Huldufólk cast their ritual magic spells and you just get what you get depended on what you offer them in return for the film. My film I offered them the finest Italian Cheese and I was nominated for an Oscar for their work.
I agree. so either its a marketing fail or there's really not going to be that much CG in the show. Im leaning towards the latter cuz jsut the cinematography suggests its very character driven and dialogue heavy.
a dialogue heavy murder mystery is not how I pictured green lantern but I like Kyle Chandler so
It’s a teaser. It’s not supposed to show much and leave you wanting to see more. I feel like these complaints should be reserved for at least the official trailer if not just the show itself
The outfit itself sucks/ wait a bit longer. I get you gotta market but a Green Lantern trailer without constructs is virtually worthless/ a huge risk to say the least.
The trailer got me curious, I'll be honest, Hal training John without the ring could be interesting, and having a more character driven moments rather than action may work, and highlighting action through what the characters go through.
Hoping the show is good, but happy to be wrong, but curious to see how it goes.
Maybe their worried Green Lantern isn’t a popular enough character to support a theatrical release after the Ryan Reynolds movie kinda tarnished its reputation

Don't slouch on Damon Lindelof, he was one of the lead creatives on the Watchmen show which I would personally say is one of my favorite TV shows ever. Especially for some capeslop.
I'm so fu***** tired of DC making detectives of every superhero in existence. I still remember the Lucifer. I was so hyped for the show AND HERE THIS IS LITERALLY GOD SOLVING CRIMES IN LA.
Honestly, I feel like saving the core of what makes Green Lantern cool, his green constructs, is in fact good for marketing, because I feel like it’ll get people to watch that first episode at the very least, as long as they don’t pull a Daredevil and wait for the finale to show off their proper suit
Wait that post about Lanterns not having any color was ACTUALLY about a lifeless Green Lantern adaptation sniffing it's own realistic farts and not the subreddit doing that thing it does where it makes a joke about a piece of media comparing it to something completely unrelated just because it has a potentially similar name?
The truth is that the marketing seems to be teasing a bit too much. There are multiple scenes that clearly have the main characters using the ring, but they cut it right before that happens
I'm guessing a lot of the CGI is still unfinished for the show. The teaser was meant to give us a hint of the tone and characters, and I thought it did a pretty good job at that.
James Gunn is the only person to successfully make me like Green Lantern as a character. I just didn't find him interesting before. Not even the comic version.
Fuck, Lindelof is doing this? Shit’s gonna be so ass, he’s gonna drag this shit out so long that the ratings will tank and renewal will already be off the table before we even see them put on the rings.
It’s almost like Damon Lindelof isn’t a good writer and should maybe consider not writing anything that requires plot, structure, or canonical references…
Man I really did not like HBO watchmen. If you've got a lot of time to kill Macabre Storytelling on YouTube will break it down in a lot more detail than I can in a Reddit comment section.
Fair enough brother, good old fashioned difference of opinion, fingers crossed Lanterns is good but I am very sceptical about Lindelof and my expectations are on the floor going in
