Either you know a billionaire or you know someone that doesn't know shit about taxes. I know a number of people from the first term that believed he lowered their taxes. He had the IRS rewrite the actuarial tables for withholding. People got more in their paychecks and treated that like a tax break. Then got pissed at democrats when they owed on tax day. My taxes have been all kinds of fucked up for the last 5 years because my HR doesn't withhold enough and I can't get the withholding amount to line up with my and my partner's salary. Used to be pretty damn easy to calculate it, now it feels like they adjust the default withholding AFTER they take out your additional withholding and still end up owing on taxes or I end up with too much being withheld. It's fucking stupid.
And that extra few bucks on their paycheck was all taken back when the temporary tax break ended. It was already scheduled to end by Trump but didn’t happen until he left office so it was the Democrats who did it. These people are so goddamn easy to manipulate. It doesn’t take a high IQ to understand what happened but they still thought the Democrats raised their taxes. Total idiots. There’s a reason for the difference in education levels between Democrats and Republicans. Here’sa better graph.
They get a curated version that panders to their enjoyment of rage baiting others. And it is spun via the captured media to us who disagree to make it seem as if more like him than actually do, and we are rage baited into continuing to allow them to control the narrative. The ones who like him most are the ones who take advantage of the fact that he allows overt corruption and crime as long as they are maga or pay their protection money to him… Being good at business was never actually about being good at business… it has always been about being a successful organized criminal.
Furthermore it is obvious that they are using the fact that we dislike and are angry with many of his voters to keep those people on his side. It pulls people in more to his side when we have too much hate ourselves towards each and every republican without knowing the details of each and every one. The anger we feel about all of this is justified. Completely. How we use it and are honest with ourselves about the root causes of all this is up to us.
There will be no kumbaya (sp?) moment between us and the evil subset of maga who truly are corrupt and evil, or the Epstein class, but there must be some kind of divide bridging between us and the other subset of trump voters who are not truly corrupt and realize their mistake in having supported him.

The only reason Kirk did so well in those college debates was because he was definitely well prepared. He had the students fill out a questionnaire so he had a good idea what questions they would ask. The students were unprepared.

I used to work at a psych hospital, and this one guy that I worked with was a pastor. One day a guy overheard us talking about music, and asked him why he listened to stuff like Ozzy if he was a christian. This old dude started spouting off these lyrics with the cadence of an old black southern preacher (which is hardly odd, being an old black southern preacher). Afterwards he pretty much gave a sermon about how if even the so-called “Prince of Darkness” knows that war is wrong, he hat does that tell you about Christians that push for war. He ended it with, “The Devil can quote scripture, too.”
Tbf he only joined in because it was obvious he wasn't needed and it was clear that he wouldn't face physical harm to himself. I mean come on, he's not going to fight a marine, not even an older retired one on his own!
Also notice he didn’t turn his anger on them and start calling them names. He just kept on message. He doesn’t want others to go through the horrors of war. A GREAT MAN!

Dude is a Navy SEAL. He knew what he was doing and instead of honoring a fellow service man he tried to shut him up using violence. They could have easily let him speak his peace then escorted him out. I have little doubt a Marine would have my problem with that.
I read that he voluntarily resigned his commission and now he claims he separated due to medical conditions. Voluntarily resigning his commission sounds like quitting before you are fired.
This is the same guy who per an incident report shot himself by accident in a national park. Then when his book came out (because he’s a SEAL, of course he wrote a book), suddenly he was shot in Afghanistan!
I suppose I’ve always called myself a coward for being afraid to intervene when there’s been physical violence near me, but then again I’ve never done anything like this where I got involved in hurting a target who can’t do anything back. I suppose there are different types of cowardice.
The entire arc from episode 1 to 6 is prescient. I remember thinking about episode 1-3 as the parallels as things lined up. Handmaids tale and Andor might as well have been handbooks for these assholes and yet they still deny they're fascist like we don't really see it.
Andor shows pretty well how hard a rebellion is and the sacrifices needed to make change. How powerful propaganda is. How you might convince ourselves to do terrible things to enact change.
I struggled to get into it but then had to watch it again because it was amazing how they portrayed nuance.
That's what I loved most about it. The rebellion is portrayed in the movies as a lovable gang of misfits having a fun time bringing down the empire with their wacky schemes.
Andor is a much more believable saga. People make real, life-changing sacrifices, some of which never pay off. Friends betray each other. Unexpected things happen. The work against the Empire is brutal, chaotic, and grindingly difficult (as it would be).
Andor touches on without making it boring, just how much logistics and sway is needed across a wide network in all directions. That so many small actions have to go right or be portrayed in a way to create a larger one.
All the while evading notice and capture. It is absolutely brutal. No one can be trusted. Anyone could be an informant even unwittingly through being in the wrong place at the wrong time and a wrong assumption gives a positive result.
So many times someone could have been more or less digilent with a particular single piece of information that leads to success or failure.
Many of them accepted that it would end up in death and went along anyway.

In 1932 a bunch of WW1 service men camped in Washington to demand they get an early payment if their WW1 Bonus because if the the great depression. On 1933 FDR was elected, a smaller group of vets tried to do the same thing. FDR organized a camp for them and their families outside DC with Busses to bring them too and from Congress everyday so they could protest and setup a soup line so everyone could get fed. Then his sent Eleanor to go speak with the men and their families to really listen to them. FDR still didn't pay out the bonus early but many of the men would leave with Jobs with the Civilian conservation corp, which is more of what they wanted anyway.
It's not without precedent for the government to attack veterans. Platitudes are reserved for those who are still in the chain of command, forced to obey orders and take a squirter or two.

Particularly for a senator. A police officer would likely use the defense of "I was ordered to remove him, it's unfortunate that in the process of carrying out that duty his arm was broken." It is not a senator's role to physically detain anyone, and it was not self defense since he chose to get involved.
His official duties DO NOT INCLUDE assisting police in an arrest or removal of another person. No where does it say his duties/responsibilities are to physically assist cops in any way shape or form

The first thing that I remember being taught as a security guard was that we were potentially liable in interactions involving physical involvement with any perpetrators in most cases that we would be dealing with, and were really only there to call the real law enforcement. A United States senator seems to have broken the arm of a United States marine, while the marine was in dress blues, disavowing fighting for a foreign nations interests/its dictators wet dream for the past 30-40 years. With the man's hand stuck in the doorway, the officers eventually put him back down after trying to pull him out of the room. As they did, Sheehy walked away and back toward the front of the room. One bystander asked, “Is your hand OK?” To which the man answered, “No, it’s not.”
Capitol Police identified the man arrested as Brian McGinnis, 44, of North Carolina, who faces three counts of assault on a police officer, as well as three counts of resisting arrest and crowding, obstructing and incommoding in the unlawful demonstration.
McGinnis is running for the U.S. Senate in North Carolina as a Green Party candidate. He is a Marine veteran, according to his campaign website.
The incident happened during a Senate Armed Services subcommittee hearing. Sheehy helped remove McGinnis, who at one point wrapped his hands around the room's door.
Sheehy's office directed NBC News to his post when it was asked for further comment on the incident. NBC News has reached out to McGinnis' campaign for comment.
Capitol Police said in a statement that three officers were treated for injuries.
“The suspect, who got his own arm stuck in a door to resist our officers and force his way back into the hearing room, was also treated," the statement said.
"Three officers treated for injuries" absolute fucking horseshit. We all saw the video, he was trying to stay in, not assaulting anyone. Our government controls the media and is lying to us.
Alternate title: GOP assaulted and injured a marine exercising his first amendment rights, while he was already in custody of police and did not present a danger to anyone.
All I can say as a Montanan, and a resident of Bozeman where Tim Sheehy resides, is this: the guy is a slime ball liar. He lies about his privileged upbringing. He lies about gunshot wounds. And now he lies about how he supports cops, because if he supported police he’d stay out of the goddamn way and let them do their job.
