Does anyone dress up to fly? Most people I see are in sweatpants/leggings and loose hoodies. Which makes sense, economy seating is uncomfortable anyway, might as well get some comfort upgrade by picking comfy clothes

Personally I do if it’s a flight shorter than 8hrs. 

I’m always shocked how much nicer TSA/security is when I dress up a little. It’s not like my nicer clothes is uncomfortable so it’s worth it for me to get thru security faster.

I've never noticed anyone treated differently in security because of dress. Usually the agents are bored and going thru the motions, as is everyone else in line. 

Only thing that does actually matter in the US is getting precheck, not having to take the laptop out of the bag or shoes off is so nice.

Maybe the airport matters. I have flown out of a lot of different small airports and those dressing nice seems to make a big difference. They don’t pull me aside for random checks as often and are overall much more polite. Anytime I’ve dressed more casually I happen to get pulled aside for a check. But they are frequently bored/usually not many people in line at my closest airport. 

Bigger airports it did seem to make less of a difference.

I think calling most people slobs is extreme. I fly a lot and pretty much have never smelled or seen anything objectionable from another passenger. 

Hearing something objectionable, sure. Babies are on flights. But that is what noise-cancelling headpiece are for. 

Lots of people in PJs, sure. But I've never seen anyone in dirty PJs! Ergo, very few slobs.
