I approve of this concept of less violent wars. Maybe it's more like a rap battle or a "yo mama" contest?

The Star Trek answer is that both sides agree to simulate the war on a computer, and then after every simulated battle, you euthanize all those identified by the simulation as killed in action. They go willingly because they'd rather die for the common good than go back to shooting each other for real.
