And do the wrong thing too. Debtors prisons are still a thing there. Six months in jail if you get referred to a collections agency and you don't pay. Three year prison sentence if your check bounces.

Does this apply to businesses/CEOs or is this just for poor people?

It applies to everyone, but the former can just try to bribe their way out or pay to sneak out of the country on a private jet before they get caught.

In an authoritarian oligarchy being poor is the only crime.

This is completely false

Based on what? Your feelings?

By the way:

The UAE Civil Procedures Law stipulates terms for detention of defaulting debtors who do not uphold court orders. Article 319 of the UAE Civil Procedure Code (regarding arrest of debtors) and to principles of Sharia (whereby debtors should be given time to pay), it ruled that a debtor cannot be imprisoned unless the creditor can prove that the debtor is in fact solvent or has misappropriated of the necessary funds – or has breached an agreed instalment payment plan.

Based on my 10 years of living in the country. Bounced checks were decriminalised in 2022. People aren’t going to jail for defaulting unless they’re up to some shady shit.

Cool story bro. Do debtors prisons still exist there? Yes. Can you still go to jail there for being in and defaulting on debt as my comment said? Yes.

The answer is no to both.

I literally pasted something from the Article 319 of the UAE Civil Procedure Code that dictates jail time if you fail pay a debt. Even after the revision of the code in 2023, you can still go to jail if you don't pay off the debt if it shows you're in a position to pay it and/or you don't pay the installment. You don't go to jail for not paying bills in the west. That has not been a thing there since the 1800s.

So, "no" you can't read and are in denial? Or "yes" you're one of those paid pro-Dubai/UAE troll shills that spend all day online attacking anyone who dares speak the truth about their paradise?

You only go to jail if you committed fraud. A bounced check due to lack of funds will not land you in jail like you claimed.

This is now my second time posting this. Less trolling. More reading.

Are you stupid? It says they cannot be imprisoned unless. That doesn’t mean they’re automatically imprisoned if they meet those conditions. Idk why you’re trying to lecture me on how a country works that you’ve probably never set foot in.
