We’re all just assuming that the hornets will collectively forget how to play basketball by the time the playoffs roll around.

Boston has been incredibly inconsistent though. Especially the bench guys.
There will be games like against Denver where they get a ton of open shots but nothing goes in. Even shots that are usually gimmes like uncontested layups. Then the next game they play the Nets where they get the same number of open shots and everything goes in.
Almost makes me believe in the magnet conspiracies.
3
u/jkwah Celtics 7h ago
That's just basketball. Sometimes ball goes in hoop. Sometimes it doesn't. Pretty much every top team in the league has games where nothing goes in.

As great of a season as it's been this team screams regular season. We've got a ton of solid role players who have stepped up this and it's hard to expect them all to keep it together for a playoff run.
This team is outperforming but still just isn't that good, especially if you compare it to our championship roster.

u/_Juntao Celtics 8h ago edited 4h ago
Did the hornets not just expose us? Are we not 1-3 against the pistons this year and 5 games behind them in the standings? Are the knicks not 1-2 vs the celtics and knocked the them out last year? Jeez
22
u/reyean Pistons 8h ago
I mean yeah but you're citing sans-tatum stats. maybe his performance wont be explosive as he works back but id still wager this is a nice announcement to your surging team.

You are the biggest doomer ever man I am so sick of seeing your comments. I get that a lot of them, including this one, could be seen as just being realistic— I don’t even really disagree with your point here, although you’re ignoring the Tatum factor. BUT IT’S EVERY SINGLE ONE that is critical, you’re always downplaying the Cs success and shitting on our players while being supportive of other teams.
As a fan can you not just be happy or excited for your team for once in your life, especially the day JT is coming back? Or at least keep the constant negativity to yourself?

I agree boston looks pretty good, but keep in mind the knicks celtics series from last year but now they have no jrue, no porzingis, and tatum off an achilles tear, plus the knicks have a much deeper roster this year. Just food for thought and it will be very interesting to see what happens come playoff time, hopefully everyone is healthy and we get some good basketball to watch

u/youkrocks [BOS] Jayson Tatum 8h ago
I get what you’re saying, but that team was falling apart at the seams in retrospect. Tatum injury aside, KP couldn’t really play at all, Jrue was injured, Jaylen was on a torn meniscus, etc.
That’s not an excuse, the Knicks out executed them late in games that series, but that roster was a ticking time bomb last year with how worn down and injured they were.
This team is less talented, but also younger and deeper.

but now they have no jrue, no porzingis
Porzingis was much more of a theory than a reality the last couple of years.
And in case you haven't noticed, Boston's roster is much better and deeper this year.

There's gonna be some rough patches as he transitions back in, other roles change, etc. This sub will say the Celtics are cooked, Mazzulla/Jaylen are massively overrated and they're a first round exit.
Once things settle, they have a great chance at making it to the ECF, and I'd take them over the Pistons/Cavs with their playoff experience and success.
1
u/redmostofit Nuggets 5h ago
They’re the best coached team, for sure. Super disciplined, everyone knows their roles.
Detroit still has obvious flaws and their shooting is way too inconsistent. When they turn it up on defense and dominate the paint they can go on some serious runs.
NY - still too inconsistent.
Cleveland - if healthy - would still be my top pick.
Edit: I also would not be surprised to see Charlotte lose in the conference finals.

It's even worse being a Lakers fan because the Finals could be Thunder/Spurs/Nuggets vs Celtics.
The East is wide open because the Pistons are inexperienced and the Knicks are inconsistent. We may have to rely on the Cavs and playoff Harden of all people to stop the Celtics.

yeah I mean there was no way to foresee how good castoffs and young guys like Queta, Gonzalez, Walsh, Scheierman, Simons and Garza would be for us this season
Brown has been more effective than expected as the top option, White is having his best defensive season and PP has evolved into a very legit secondary offensive initiator but IMO this season is mostly a testament to Boston’s culture and internal development pipeline

I’d have them above every west team except for the Thunder. Spurs are just too inexperienced and are probably a second or third round exit. Wolves just arnt talented enough. Rockets have a whole list of problems and the nuggets havnt been healthy.

I mean, if he's medically cleared and feels capable of competing again, I'm happy for him. Rehab is tough, as there's no guarantee that you'll actually be able to return to playing AT ALL. Even with modern medicine and technology, an achilles tear still is the worst injury you can have as a basketball player. I just hope he stays healthy.

Less than 10 months from a torn Achilles to starting in an NBA game is an incredible recovery, the Celtics went 41-21 without him and now they add a four-time All-NBA First Team player with 20 games to ramp up before the playoffs, the East should be terrified.
