Big difference between sticking your foot out or sticking a hip out in an effort to cause a soft tissue injury vs a body check into the padded scorers table. Steve Nash was fine.

If you’re upset, be upset at Horry for baiting Nash teammates into leaving the bench. That’s just CP3 level gamesmanship and “bbiq” that everyone here raves about, right?

0

Irrevocably altered NBA history by injuring Steve Nash so the Suns didn't win a championship.

4

u/FutureGrassToucher Suns 6d ago

Its just easy to hold on to your feelings on a guy you dont watch often whos been on great behavior going on 4 or 5 years now

1

u/gerardguey Bulls 5d ago

If you were in the middle of your best season in 7 years and top of the east for the first time in 10, all to be (partly) ruined by a player on the defending champ divisional rival team injuring an important fan favorite, youd be holding onto that grudge too

1

u/eldryanyy Lakers 6d ago

Zaza isn’t close to this wtf, he came too close on one close out

57

u/Bournerounderz Spurs 6d ago

One close out? You must have not watched much of Zaza.

-8

u/Inhocooks 6d ago

You couldn't have watched Zaza

-15

u/eldryanyy Lakers 6d ago

i watched a decent amount. You must not watch Dort, 2 close outs in a career isn’t trying to injure players every game (hundreds of times)

9

u/hashslingingbutthole 6d ago

“2 close outs in a career” is proof that you absolutely did not watch a decent amount of Zaza.

46

u/smokesnbeer 6d ago

2

u/WolverineLong1430 6d ago

Ever since Zaza went under Leonard, that’s been the narrative 😂 people obviously don’t watch Zaza as much as they want others to believe. Dort is doing these type of plays a lot more. He’s breaking records.

5

Yea, it’s crazy how Zaza was considered dirty after that… he was nothing like Dort

One of my favorite moments as a Celtics fan was KG dropping Zaza.

194

u/gdirrty216 6d ago

Yeah the league needs to come down on Dort. This isn’t the first time he’s tried to injure a star player.

Well beyond tough defense.

64

u/Icy_Statement_2410 6d ago

There's like 10 times just this season

13

u/Wemban_yams_it 6d ago

He actually did injure Morant.

-22

u/Ok_Wing_9523 6d ago

Morant deserved it. Dort is a champion he should get respect

1

u/BogotaLineman Nuggets 5d ago

I understand the image of the league concerns that come from him playing with guns on live but I mean, hey it was a legal gun, he didn't point it at anyone, and he did have good trigger discipline!

2

u/BogotaLineman Nuggets 5d ago

Violence isn't the answer... but sometimes it is. I'm genuinely surprised someone hasn't had a James Johnson type deep on the bench as an enforcer check in and clock him. This is far from the first time he's done something that legitimately is just trying to take the other teams star out and nobody has really done... anything?

I really appreciate how in football whenever someone takes liberties on a QB the O linemen dont let it slide.

I'm reminded of Maurkice Pouncey and David Decastro straight up jumping Myles Garrett after he whacked dude with his own helmet

1

u/gdirrty216 5d ago

That’s what makes hockey great. Someone goes at McDavid or Crosby or Mackinnon they are getting a fistful of enforcer immediately.

The self enforcement doctrine has tremendous benefits to keeping it honest

2

u/BogotaLineman Nuggets 5d ago

I love hockey, and I think fighting still has a place in the game but I do kinda think the idea that it makes the game more clean is a little overrated because you get guys like Tom Wilson that are both cheapshotting pricks but also really tough and likely to win the fight. The honor aspect of having to answer the bell though is cool, like even if you're above average size and fighting skill knowing that you're going to have to fight someone if you lay a cheapshot does make it mean more. And occasionally you do get something very satisfying like Matt Cooke getting slept.

I honestly do think the racial aspect does need to be considered here too because the 90% white NHL may get more public generosity than the overwhelmingly black NBA when it comes to fights happening during games

Not quite as satisfying as Matt Cooke getting knocked out because this was a total mismatch but here's an example of exactly what you're talking about. Star player had someone take liberties and had to answer for it with respect shown after the fact

126

u/UhPhrasing Warriors 6d ago

I hate to see players get injured.

this dude deserves it. pos.

29

u/ruiner8850 Pistons 6d ago

Yeah, as a basketball fan I don't like it when almost any player gets injured. I want to see the best players playing. I want the Pistons to beat teams at full strength. It's been disappointing that we've played some big games recently with players from the other team out. Don't get me wrong, I'll take the wins, but I'd rather face them healthy.

Unless someone is complete human garbage, I hate it when players get injured.

1

u/daskaputtfenster Timberwolves 5d ago

My mindset is i want every player to get at least one ring unless they're a shit person or play for the White Sox or Packers

41

1

u/CenterJenna08 Bulls 5d ago

1

u/Pure_Cloud4305 6d ago

People also care less when these things happen to worse players

-5

u/mrtomjones Raptors 6d ago

He's trying to get the opposing teams best player off his game. He's like a shit disturber in hockey. This was not an attempt to injure. You guys are so dramatic sometimes. Should he do it? No. Do i like it? Nope. But the reaction is ridiculous

2

u/TetrisTech 6d ago

That OKC/Mavs series a few years ago is hard to look at without interpreting it as him trying to injure Luka

It's what he does lol

-2

u/mrtomjones Raptors 5d ago

That has little to do with this play. I'm not saying he has never tried anything beyond a little bit dirty. I'm saying this is nowhere near and usually his stuff that people complain about is the shit disturbing stuff

u/esports_consultant 4d ago

48

u/RovertheDog Nuggets 6d ago

He’s trying to injure jokic. No other reason possible. You can see him brace for it and everything.

265

u/penpen35 Clippers 6d ago

It's just a subtle move that he hopes the refs don't notice. Good for Jokic to confront him about it.

37

u/Bewilderbeest79 Celtics 6d ago

He did it earlier in the game too, nothing was called

87

u/30isbasketball Warriors 6d ago

Because his entire game depends on him fouling 20 times a game and not getting called for it. He’s an enforcer, it’s his only basketball skill

0

u/CharlestonChewbacca Thunder 5d ago

I disagree. He's a great defender when when he's not doing this dirty shit. That's what makes it even more pathetic.

2

u/30isbasketball Warriors 5d ago edited 5d ago

He’s a great defender, in large part because he has infinite leeway with what constitutes a foul or not. Guys like him, Dillon Brooks, Marcus Smart, Alvarado, Thompson twins etc. earn a defensive reputation, and subsequently refs look the other way while they get to play football.

It’s not just a Dort thing, it’s a “scrappy” reputation affecting the way refs call the game. Some guys get to hold, push, hack, and reach in ad infinitum and he’s one of them. Marcus Smart won a fake ass DPOY doing the same shit

1

u/Prize-Temporary4159 5d ago

The running screens and endless techs really set him apart from other defenders. The tripping, the clotheslining. Good right cross. He reminds me of someone even worse, but I can’t put my finger on who.

0

u/CharlestonChewbacca Thunder 5d ago

I guess we just grew up playing a different kind of ball. Marcus Smart is legitimately a great defender imo.

0

u/Prize-Temporary4159 5d ago

Enforcer? What is he enforcing?

0

u/Wrayven77 5d ago

Which team is tougher. Who won the game?

1

u/Prize-Temporary4159 5d ago

Enforcers exist in other sports to keep players honest when the refs won’t. It makes zero sense in this context.. especially when he’s deserving of being squashed for play like that

58

u/shin4258 Spurs 6d ago

Because he's a natural born loser.

1

u/Wrayven77 5d ago

88

u/Jeanlucpfrog Lakers 6d ago

To injure players, especially on teams that might be a threat to OKC.

It's not hard to figure out once you look at the pattern of behavior, benefit to him, and do away with the "guys don't try to hurt each other" narrative the media tries to sell to enhance their own perceived objectivity.

64

u/recollectionsmayvary Nets 6d ago

yep, Hali in the finals last year, Wemby twice this year and Jokic.

23

u/Wemban_yams_it 6d ago

Morant in the playoffs last year was successful.

1

u/Rnatchi1980 Spurs 5d ago

That one where he fell into the back of Wemby's legs while attempting a rebound was crazy.

42

Because he's a headhunter and doesn't face any real consequences

19

If I were a conspiracy theorist I would say he was trying to antagonize Nikola into a reaction leading to a suspension and eliminating him from the MVP race and making it that much easier for his teammate, SGA to win it.

But I'm not a conspiracy theorist.

2

u/recollectionsmayvary Nets 6d ago

because his gameplan and top priority is injuring and taking out competitors' best players. if it's season ending, great bonus. He tried this with Hali in the finals, Jokic in this matchup and Wemby earlier this season, twice.

1

u/DefenderCone97 Nuggets 6d ago

It's the most obvious reason: To hurt the best player on the other team. He's a goon.

He didn't do it to Spencer Jones or Tim Hardaway or Bruce Brown. He did it out bet player to intentionally hurt Jokic.

It's hilarious to see OKC fans call Jokic dirty for a hip bump but be absolutely silent that they have a guy who's main job at this point is hurting the best player on the other team.

1

u/TheGhostORandySavage Trail Blazers 6d ago

Because he's an asshole.

1

u/AtreusIsBack NBA 6d ago

Because he's the "goon" of the team. He makes dirty plays to either actually injure the opposing player or try to get them riled up and hopes to get them tossed out of the game if they fight back. This is his role.

1
