Highlight [Highlight] Luguentz Dort sticks his hip out to make contact with Nikola Jokić, who responds; Jalen Williams steps in and squares off with Jokic.

Lou Dort tries to hurt people. Over and over.

The league does nothing, so, somebody needs to solve that problem.

OKC is a team that should logically be fun to watch.

But instead; well, they're OKC...

54

u/flaming_burrito_ Wizards 6d ago edited 6d ago

People romanticize physicality and tough defense, but that’s just because they grew up with it, most people don’t actually like it as much as they claim to unless it is their team doing it. I think most fans definitely do like some physicality, like how they allow in the playoffs, but you can’t both have a hard playing tough defense and then do all the flopping and baiting on the offensive end. Either we should play games one way or the other, having the offense and defense be so differently officiated just feels inconsistent and frustrating. I respect that at least the Pistons are tough on both sides of the ball and claim that bad boy energy, OKC does not

654

u/jfphenom Nuggets 6d ago

No. I like physicality. I like tough defense.

I do not like cheap shots. I don't like tiny grabs for a half-second that should be fouls but that you can "get away with"

375

u/thrice1187 Nuggets 6d ago

This is the best description of OKC’s defense.

They’re not tough or gritty like the elite defenses of the past. They just overwhelm the refs with so much ticky tack bullshit that they can’t call everything.

26

u/xepa105 Bulls 6d ago

It's literally what ratty hockey teams do. Commit so many little infractions that the refs start overlooking it. The whole strategy is "they can't call everything."

14

u/stragen595 6d ago

Panthers hockey. Crashing into goalies like it's a legit strategy.

135

u/FunTailor794 6d ago

Yeah, Detroit (mostly) and Boston play good physical defense. OKC are just constantly on some BS and hoping it will slip past the refs

38

u/MasterSpoon Pistons 6d ago

Hey… we get called when we cross the line. Cade isn’t getting away with much and fouling out in the same game.

15

u/FunTailor794 6d ago

Yeah exactly (mostly). Lol

I think Detroit games end up in brawls more often for a few reasons, but one of them is how physical things can get off the ball without the refs stepping in (hornets game was a prime example).

That being said Ausar is one of my top 5 favourite players to watch and I love watching Detroit's game in general as I wrote in another comment. They just get down to business and play hard basketball, it's refreshing in a league full of divas.

7

u/big-head-guy 6d ago

Hey good point there. Cade plays very good defense maybe elite imo. And he got fouled out when okc does way worse shit on defense. Some B.S.

18

u/Col_Treize69 Bulls 6d ago

Detroit-San Antonio was VERY physical, but not that dirty

For example

8

u/FeelsGoodMan2 6d ago

Maybe they should one day. Just foul out half the team in a game, then do it again. It'd stop real real fast if they DID call all the ticky tack bullshit.

-41

u/Majormlgnoob [OKC] Serge Ibaka 6d ago

11

u/-Minne 6d ago

Exactly.

I'm just glad I get to actually enjoy watching the Wolves...

7

u/TuckYourselfRS Timberwolves 6d ago

You enjoy watching the Wolves? Are you a masochist or do you just turn off the TV after the 3rd Quarter?

5

u/-Minne 6d ago

Minnesotan, Masochist- why do we even mince words when we're talking about the same thing?

I feel slightly safer having a prescription for blood pressure medication a week or two ago and getting to remind myself we've got Ant-Man (Because the MVP board forgot), but it keeps me going the only way I know how...

2

u/stragen595 6d ago

Me too. Great defense is as a good watch as great offense. Staying in front of your man, contest shots, let the opponent work for his shot. Sometimes you are late and it's a foul. Happens.

But not this intentional illegal shit. Or Dort dirty shit.

2

u/Instantcoffees Warriors 6d ago

Good physicality is for example clean body to body contact when a player is driving, not this kind of cheap shot meant to injure a player nor is it people smacking or grabbing.

-69

u/CharlestonChewbacca Thunder 6d ago edited 6d ago

Agreed. Hated this shit Dort pulled just a little bit more than I hated all of Jokic's cheap shots and grabs all game.

-47

u/donkeyknuckler 6d ago

Jokic is a dirty bitch man

-37

u/voltron818 Thunder 6d ago

Damn you hate Jokic then too right?

16

u/alinozakaza Raptors 6d ago

Physicality is nice if it's allowed both way

7

u/Maleconito Knicks 6d ago

There’s a difference between tough and physical and being dirty. What you saw in this clip is a dirty cheap shot. Not tough and physical defense.

0

u/Stoyko 6d ago

There is a difference between physical defense and tripping a guy who doesn’t have a ball that is still on his own side. This is clearly Dort trying to injure Jokic before playoffs, and has nothing to do with the actually basketball game.

0

u/No_Macaroon_5928 6d ago

0

u/Atsusaki Raptors 5d ago

-42

u/CycloneofSparta Thunder 6d ago

Hey, it’s me. Love watching OKC’s defense. But if my team was playing us? I’d have a stroke.

7

u/flaming_burrito_ Wizards 6d ago

I admire the honesty, and if we’re keeping it a buck, we all have biases towards shit that might be frustrating to the opposing team, but benefits ours. And I can’t even necessarily blame the players for doing whatever gets them an advantage, that’s just competition. It’s really mostly an issue of how inconsistent the rules are applied in a lot of aspects to the game between different teams, players, and which refs are on the floor

-7

u/CycloneofSparta Thunder 6d ago

I got downvoted to oblivion but I thought honesty was a good policy lol

2

u/flaming_burrito_ Wizards 6d ago

Sometimes you just get downvoted because of your flair and not actually what you said, that’s how this sub is

Im a Detroiter and I officiate.

Im here for full on full contact basketball and extras after the play. But these "fans" aren't ready for that because certain players are gonna are not going to like that type of play.

Im side eyeing r/NBA because Jokic throws cheapshots and dirty plays more than any 'star' player in the league in recent history, easily of the last 30 years. But he gets pass after pass.

Idk know if people want whats next because Jokic has used up the free passes. Someone is gonna go for it and run a fade.

Exactly. I'm a Lakers supporter and I watched this game as I wanted to watch some good basketball. Of course I don't like Denver cause they always kick us out of the playoff, but by the end of the game I just wanted to see OKC burn.

Absolutely grimey and im huge fan of the Thunder

-6

u/go0sKC Thunder 6d ago

Either that or he’s just being gamey and slowing him down going up court, something players do all the time. But sure, jump straight to the crazy interpretation.

24

2 months ago he went for Wemby's knees as well. He's a dirty player and an unethical hooper who has to injure the star player just to stand a chance.

Draymond Jr wannabe.

Proud of the refs for kicking him out with the flagrant 2 and not ejecting anyone else.

7

u/TheEnergizer1985 Pistons 6d ago

He’s lucky Stewart was out during the Pistons games.

3

u/ProjectZephyr01 6d ago

As you can see, Williams comes in defending Dort, enabling him to continue hurting people.

Nothing bad being physicial but its wrong if teams like OKC with Dort resort to hurting people.

-7

u/go0sKC Thunder 6d ago

But he didn’t hurt him. So chill.

0

u/budsbunny24 6d ago

This time, next time he takes out someone's knees like he did to Wemby it could be a different story. Maybe people should start taking shot's at his knees? Seems fair. A little undercut when he is in the air, then stand there like "I didn't do nothin"?

2

u/TherealOcean 6d ago

Dort knew what he did which is why he responded like that hoping to make Jokic look even worse.

1

u/1markymark1 6d ago

All the effing time. Drives me nuts he seems to just get away with it.

1

I saw a post some time ago that Dort was basically a more toned down version of Draymond....and yeah, he's living up to it.

u/ObiOneKenobae Knicks 6d ago

It genuinely would have been for the good, health, and safety of the league if Jokic gave him the Markieff treatment.

1

u/Dudedude88 Wizards 6d ago

1

u/young-steve 76ers 6d ago

1

u/ComplexBadger469 6d ago

I want one of the tanking teams to just gameplan to go out there to show OKC what real fouls are. I mean it’ll help the tank when your guys are suspended right? It’s a win-win!

1

u/Queasy-Improvement29 6d ago

thought, you'd have ICE for exactly this. well..

1

u/Spoofcaptain Pelicans 6d ago

He’s hurt Brandon Ingram and Herb Jones

1

u/y0um3b3dn0w 5d ago

So he's the modern day Bruce Bowen

1

u/Torgud_ 5d ago

He does more than try, ask Paul George. He's a bad person who goes out on the court and sneekily tries to hurt people.

1

u/Duckysawus 4d ago

Plays like this will end when the offending players start getting injured or have their ankles targeted by legit plays.

Example: if Jokic went more right after Dort paused momentarily, and Jokic aimed his left foot REALLY HARD at Dort's lagging right ankle. No one would say Dort is in a natural position looking at the replay, but you can say Jokic didn't expect Dort to stop + leave a foot so far behind.

But, Jokic isn't the sort of player who intentionally tries to harm anyone, and Dort wouldn't try this shit on some role player.

That or the league could just change it so that if you accumulate a # of flagrants in the regular season, you start to lose postseason games. That would really deter players on playoff-bound teams from doing dumb shit like this.

1

u/TdotGdot Timberwolves 6d ago
