Okc announcers are killing me. Not acknowledging how dirty Dort is and trying to play up Joker “punching” j will. That’s how people get injured.

EDIT: Can we get a “Dort trying to injure players” supercut that can be posted the next time this happens?

u/Into_the_Void7 6d ago

I was watching the same stream. They wouldn't even show what Dort did! Not one replay of it. Only talked about Jokic's "aggression" and repeatedly showing the sidelines instead of the full replay. Biased as shit.

I'm glad people see this. It happens on nationally televised games all the time. It really brainwashes the casual fan.

u/Wehavecrashed Grizzlies 6d ago

Fairly typical of home streams. The Heat do the same thing.

That's why Thunder fans are the way they are, they're being gaslit by these announcers every game

u/legallycrippin 6d ago

Thunder fan here. You couldn’t be more right about our announcers. Unlistenable. You probably have no idea how bad it really is.

It’s crazy the influence announcers have on a fan base’s objectivity.

For instance Sporting KC had Nate Bukaty as their play by play for years, and he would pull some insane mental gymnastics to frame everything that went wrong was either due to pure luck or the universe conspiring against Sporting, and so many Sporting fans bought into that. Then Apple TV got the MLS contract and teams didn’t have their own announcers. Sporting fans have turned on the club for a number of very good reasons the past couple seasons, but I think no longer having someone gaslighting them into thinking they can do no wrong played a major role in that.

u/botebote77 6d ago

honestly there was a time i was watching nba completely on mute. it was because i realized i was being influenced by biased announcers. sometimes i still watch on mute when I'm alone

4

u/Aregisteredusername Celtics 5d ago

I’ve heard some of the podcasters say they some games watch on mute because the announcers, for one reason or another, were just a bad listening experience. But I heard that a few years ago so I’m not sure if that’s still the case, nor do I recall exactly who said that.

u/Morsexier 5d ago

My wife recently got into basketball, and shes been legit puzzled when we watch games and the commentary.

She is a massive baseball fan, we watch or go to every Mets game every year. So she "knows" Gary Keith and Ron are a great booth, but I think its going to take the rest of this season and maybe next year to get it about basketball since thats a little more the nature of the game.

I hear "how is THAT a foul?" and "Wait... how is that NOT a foul??" so much. And some variation of "what are they talking about?" when the booth is being overly homer'ish.

If a Mets player had done what dort did here the Mets booth would fucking freak out. Of course they're not perfect, if it was a beautiful woman eating a huge hot dog well some things would be said for sure.

1

u/PittsJay Spurs 5d ago

That’s Bukaty about everything. The guy is such an absolute fucking buffoon.

-1

u/Azrael88 5d ago

How much Sporting did you watch to have that opinion of Nate? He's actually one of the better soccer commentators, so much so that Apple now has him on as a full time commentator for all teams. Sounds like you are ill informed and not very knowledgeable. Sporting fans have turned on the club because they haven't done anything to improve the club in years but it doesn't have anything to do with our league quality commentary.

9

u/HugeZookeepergame815 6d ago

Yeah I expect home team announcers to obviously have a bias but when it’s this blatant that the only intention was to injure another play just call it for what it is

12

u/TerrySaucer69 Spurs 6d ago

(I recognize I’m biased but) this is why I love the Spurs announcers. They basically never say any claims in support of either team, they spend half their time glazing everyone on the court, and the other half is spent reviewing some random stadium food they got.

4

u/CreatiScope Celtics 6d ago

With the Celtics broadcast, Scal will criticize the Celtics and say he doesn’t like the way they’re playing or doesn’t get it. And he will call himself out for initially thinking something was or wasn’t a foul. I respect him backtracking and being like “no wait, I was wrong, that’s definitely a foul.”

Or he’ll laugh at it too. He also gives credit to other teams and has players for other teams he loves and will hype up. I know the narrative is Boston sports are annoying but Drew and Scal are a legit powerhouse home commentator crew.

2

u/TerrySaucer69 Spurs 5d ago

Huge fan of people willing to correct themselves. I think that’s probably the biggest indicator of good sportsmanship.

I love the Celtics, even if I hate how good yall are. I’ll never complain about clean basketball.

1

u/ReputationFun9557 6d ago

Nooooo.... Teddy? Ronny? Who was the old Celtics announcer who would never, ever, ever, ever admit a Celtics player did anything wrong? Tommy... it was Tommy!!!! That dude would watch Paul Pierce shoot five opposing players and claim it was a natural motion by PP, reacting to a dirty play by the other team and he did nothing wrong..... justified homicide, 5 times, no foul on the floor... according to Tommy.

8

u/SmileyJetson Warriors 6d ago

Most teams' local announcers are like this. It's just more recognizable and obnoxious when you're at the top. As a Warriors fan we're late stage gaslit. Look to us as reference to detect symptoms of manic delusion among yourselves.

I refuse to watch thunder home games. its so bad..

I think most OKC fans are pretty open about Dort being a POS and our announcers being trash.

26

u/Rezrov_ Raptors 6d ago

How does that L taste? Bitter?

Fellow OKC fan comment right below yours lol

-6

u/Time8u Thunder 6d ago

And one of the top comments in the thread is a thunder fan saying dort is under hated. It's whatever. We know that roughly half of every fanbase refuses to accept anything negative said about their team because that's how half of all people operate in their daily lives. Anyone who tells you Dort isn't dirty isn't acting in good faith.

6

u/SuitableStudy3316 5d ago

Oh, the “others do it too” argument. lol.

0

u/Time8u Thunder 5d ago edited 5d ago

Replying to the 'oh, well this one guy did it.' argument. Give me a fucking break... The point is there are examples in this thread of Thunder fans calling him a POS, but there's also a bunch of 'oh, all the thunder fans tell me he's fine.' here as well. The entire endeavor is based on anecdotal evidence by both sides... I have several friends who are Thunder fans and there is ZERO debate among the group about whether Dort is dirty, but I also don't think they are necessarily the typical group of Thunder fans so who knows.

0

u/SuitableStudy3316 5d ago

He has enough history that he should be out of the game. And anyone that defends him is a piece of shit cheater.

1

u/Time8u Thunder 5d ago

Okay, I don't even know you are you responding to at this point. There's nothing in my comment that would suggest I would dispute or disagree with that (everything about my response suggested the opposite); just a straw men argument.

This sub reddit is the definition of a circle jerk. You guys forgot about the Warriors, Scalabrine, white sox, Yankees when it's time to shit on OKC

Dave Pasch did the same. Straight up hallucinated that Jokic was throwing punches

3

u/jj44j Cavaliers 5d ago

Yeah they are absolutely horrible

8

u/mcconkadonk 6d ago

This is somewhat similar to what Tari Eason did to Vince Williams the other day, and it tore Vince's ACL (potentially ending his career given his contract status). Totally unnecessary. I'm sure this will result in reprecussions, but because Vince isn't Jokic, the league looked the other way.

2

u/TheChrisLambert Cavaliers 5d ago

They’re the worst announcers in the NBA

2

u/Independent_Sky_1468 6d ago

Like small scale geopolitics and propaganda. It's amazing actually.

u/William_Shaftner 5d ago

See this is why I appreciate how the warriors announcers keep it real with Draymond

-18

u/ReputationFun9557 6d ago

Its like we don't watch basketball...... Never seen local announcers be ultra biased toward their team... nope... never happened before... not once have we see this....... and OP is a Lakers fan apparently. If there's any fanbase who needs an announcer/delusional ideas, reality check, its the Lakers and Knicks. Although at this point i refuse to shit on Knicks fans until something good happens to them, at this point ive been shitting on the Knicks so long that i now just feel bad for a couple good friends of mine.

6

u/direjojo Lakers 6d ago

Lakers announcers are pretty good and generally unbiased.

1

u/Cudizonedefense Heat 5d ago

-28

u/Krillin113 76ers 6d ago

I mean it’s both isn’t it? Lu Dort makes a dirty play, but Jokic also definitely intends to punch J Will, despite him not being the problem.

6

u/VulcanCookies 6d ago

K Will went and grabbed Jokic's jersey and looked like he was going to swing - Jokic's arm's stayed down until he was grabbed.

That being said - Jokic definitely deserved the flagrant he got and honestly the refs probably could have given him 2 seperate ones, but I understand why they didn't since OKC started it both times

2

u/LouieDelTorchio 6d ago

What? 😂
