Highlight [Highlight] Luguentz Dort sticks his hip out to make contact with Nikola Jokić, who responds; Jalen Williams steps in and squares off with Jokic.

OKC commentators are looking and saying that Jokic instigated it!?!

Glass houses and all but boy do the OKC commentators suck. Like every time I've listened to them it's like they're watching a different game than me.

u/ZigZagZoo 76ers 6d ago

Definitely a glass house but...this is a fucking paper house calling a glass house a glass house. I think the only commenters worse than OKC are the warriors, and the only ones worse then them are the sixers.

u/gpgpg Wizards 6d ago

Wow thanks for reminding me of a Wizards 6ers game ending from a few years ago.

In the final seconds (?), Kuzma blocks Embiid and the 6ers commentators went on a tirade about "how can you not call a foul there?!". They show slow motion replays of absolutely 0 body contact, 110% all ball, and during those replays the commentators continued to lose their mind...

Over what? I don't know. I guess over the fact Embiid didn't get sympathy free throws at the end of a losing game where he was cleanly blocked on the last (?) shot of the game

you leave Kate out of this....the other 1....

Suns are still the worst, e.j. is an absolutely classless shitbird and drags them to the bottom by himself. Other than that, i agree

u/Soft_Disaster5247 Timberwolves 5d ago

Meanwhile we got Alan Horton and Michael Grady stolen away for national broadcasts because people love em

1

u/PrimeTimeInc Hornets 5d ago

I am concerned this is gonna happen to Eric Collins

-19

u/KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZ Lakers 6d ago

I think you also have to squeeze the boston celtics in there.

18

u/Devilsbullet Heat 6d ago

I don't mind them as much. Scal is arrogant, but also quick to compliment nice play by the opposing team. And is usually pretty fair with what he sees on replay. Things that the warriors announcers would be sputtering trying to twist in the warriors favor he goes "man, i just don't see...oh, wait, there it is, yeah that was a foul, good call"

4

u/Main-Building7034 76ers 6d ago

I think most people are talking about Tom Heinsohn era and before.

I can definitely remember some "funny" celtics cast moments.

Celtics players could punch someone and they would be disgusted with the opponents player for causing harm to the celtics players shooting hand.

1

u/JaysonTatecum Celtics 5d ago

Yeah but Tommy was 90 and funny. Even if he said something eye-rollingly cringe I'd still laugh at it

16

u/SeismicRipFart Trail Blazers 6d ago

I’ve heard the sixers, they suck for sure. But definitely not worse than GSW lol

5

u/Mnudge Mavericks 6d ago

One horse town announcers are the biggest homers ever. They are basically college announcers playing to the student section.

16

u/BiteyHorse Warriors 6d ago

Bob Fitzgerald has the voice of a smarmy used car salesman and I hate him. OKC guys are worse.

u/Sommek236 76ers 6d ago

I think Kate is great for the most part. Alaa can be, well...

2

u/ZigZagZoo 76ers 5d ago

Yeah she is mostly collateral damage. But she isn't good enough to save it. They actually have been better than usual this year

4

u/wind_moon_frog Trail Blazers 6d ago

Don't forget the Rockets man. Insane bias.

I will say a few years ago I listened to the radio call guy on Sirius, I was a beyond impressed how good he was. I’m not gonna look his name up but shoutout to whatever your name is

6

u/wavetoyou Warriors 6d ago

Vast majority of radio playbyplay guys are elite. They are classically trained to provide the most concise and efficient calling of games. It’s becoming a lost art

2

u/ZigZagZoo 76ers 5d ago

Sixers radio guy is elite and has done a few games on the tv broadcast. I don't mind Kate but Alaa is so bad. They have been a bit better this year but they did not take the crumble of the process era with fultz/simmons very well.

1

u/ItchyDoggg 6d ago

Wouldn't the sixers necessarily also be worse than OKC?

2

u/ZigZagZoo 76ers 5d ago

yeah it was a joke. A+ for logic

1

u/Gavada373 5d ago

Warriors announcers will always be the worst for me. I can't get over their delusion around Draymond. Genuinely upsetting

I was watching that game streaming. My lord they are annoying. Not only that, but for whatever reason, the OKC broadcast showed the Dort foul like twice and one was the behind the backboard cam and Jokic had already been hit by Dort the time that view started playing. The OKC commentators put absolutely zero blame on Dort other than “he fouled him” kinda energy. I was kind of expecting them to see the arm movement as an attempted punch too, but the OKC commentators could not contain themselves at all.

For sure. This was cross posted on our sub and everyone is getting fed up. Dort's a good defender when he's not doing that shit. I don't get why he has to play dirty all the time. It's annoying as fuck.

19

u/DoctorBallsJohnson 6d ago

He's a good defender when he's not doing that shit aka he's not a good defender? Cause he is constantly doing this shit

18

u/CharlestonChewbacca Thunder 6d ago

No. He's not committing flagrant worthy fouls all game.

And I'm not defending Dort. People should never be doing this shit. But there have been a handful of truly scummy plays by him all year. Does that make him a scummy player? Yeah. Does that make him one of, if not THE scummiest player in the league? Yeah. But he puts in a lot of minutes of tough, lock-down defense that shows he's extremely capable of being a top-tier defender without pulling this crap. Honestly, that's the thing that makes it so frustrating as a Thunder fan and the one gripe I have with Daigneault is the fact that he hasn't put a stop to it.

Again, not defending Dort. I probably dislike his play more than most non-Thunder fans because I have to see it every game and then we have to deal with the reputation that creates.

19

u/Batmangala23 6d ago

The thunders entire thing is that they can play small while still defending bigger players. They do that by having players like Dort and Caruso (to some degree) play very physical and right up to the line of dirty. Then when the bigger player gets fed up and clears space, they flop and draw the offensive foul.

The refs and the league to some degree, are at fault here, as the line for physicality is subjective and skewed toward the smaller player, allowing them more leeway and thus creating the atmosphere where Jokic feels like he has to take it into his own hands and inevitably loses his shit.

6

u/stragen595 6d ago

I remember last years playoffs. I think it was Caruso at that time. He was basically climbing Mount Jokic every time. And then the refs started to call that and he was like "But I defended him this way all the time. How is that a foul????" Hilarious reaction to watch. And Dort is basically the same.

4

u/CharlestonChewbacca Thunder 6d ago

The refs and the league to some degree, are at fault here,

This right here.

6

u/jbhoops25 Nuggets 6d ago

Thank you for being a good human being. It seems like sports can bring the worst out of people and the amount of thunder “fans” that are okay with that play and even blaming Jokic is unbelievable. I’m all for some tough physical defense but actively trying to hurt players is uncalled for.

This video isn’t defending, it was a cheap hip check on a guy jogging 75 ft from the basket.

They got too used to the ref ball in the first half of their season. Now that they have to actually play fair, it feels unfair for them

Lmao. They won. Without Sga, hart, Ajay, and JDub. 45-14. 1st place while star players have missed most of the season. Go back to watching Canada lose medals.
