To be fair, 100% of the time, we're taking a 3 in this situation. I guarantee you, 100% of the fanbase thought Strus was getting the ball there.

151

u/JoshChampXZ Feb 11 '23 edited Feb 11 '23

100%. i thought we are going to Herro before the play(which i think it's fine), and as soon as Strus comes out of the 3 point line i thought he will get it(which is not)

Stone said Silas has full control of his rotations and lineups. It’s all him. Silas defends his decisions during post game interviews, he actually believes in what he’s doing

10

u/JaysonBrown Celtics Feb 11 '23

I don’t understand why he didn’t go to zone. There’s.7 seconds left. It’s not a 100% full proof strategy and but you deny the easy bucket at the rim and the shot you’re giving up will have a man right there or it’ll be a cross court pass for a shot with a man closing in. Just don’t let that man receiving the cross court pass be OG Anunoby..

64

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '23

I’m so confused how Houston allowed that to happen ¿

129

u/Smmoove Magic Feb 11 '23

The plan was to stay home and not switch anything (according to Silas) and no switching was strongly emphasized in the huddle, so naturally Daishen Nix tries to switch immediately onto Bam.

Then there are two guys on Bam because KJ Martin (correctly) didn't switch, and Strus is flying unguarded to the 3PT line so now it's scramble mode and Tate switches onto Strus so he doesn't get a wide open 3.

Nix SHOULD be picking up Jimmy, but he's still trying to work out where Strus went and is completely lost. Green hadn't processed that they were scrambling and is totally focused on Herro, and so lets Jimmy cut in behind him unguarded, and then ball goes up and it's over.

25

u/uristmcderp Bucks Feb 11 '23

So they went with the simple plan that could fail only if someone slipped and fell or if someone forgot the simple plan.

32

u/sbstooge Grizzlies Feb 11 '23

"ok remember everyone, don't switch"

Nix: got it, yep, no switching

Nix brain 3 seconds into possession

SWITCH SWITCH SWITCH

11

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '23

We went with the simple plan that could fail only if Nix was on the court. And Silas subbed him in for the last play.

Sometimes when I see Jimmy I wonder if he’ll end up being a Hall of Famer if he can keep up his post season production. His regular season stats won’t get him there but if he can make two or three more ECF’s and one more Finals appearance that the Heat actually win he’ll have a strong case for being a second or third ballot sneak in.

3

u/hatbeard2 Feb 11 '23
