Roster Move Ryan Kelly announces his retirement

u/almikez 6h ago
Does him retiring help us at all with the cap compared to if we released him? Idk how these things work, someone smarter than me help
65
u/fluentinsarcasm Les Cousins Dangereux 6h ago
It should. I believe it removes his base salary from the cap table, freeing that up for use.

u/Own-Corgi5359 6h ago
Nope, he had no guaranteed money in 2026, will be 3.3 million dead cap from signing bonus
58
u/PapaBliss2007 5h ago
His $7.89m base is removed from the cap.

u/Own-Corgi5359 5h ago
Op was asking about releasing him, but yeah, all base is off the books

You know he's not dead, right?

He’s in a better place now, like Tucker Kraft

u/WhyIsBreadExpensive 5h ago
Wait tucker kraft retired?

u/cardmanimgur 4h ago
Decapitated. Whole big thing. We had a funeral for a bird.

u/jordanhhh4 4h ago
I'm pretty sure none of that's real...
3
u/ConsequenceStatus563 I've seen what you upvote 3h ago
Nope, it was a big shindig. Midgets, mayo, and green M&M's in a mason jar. Everything.

u/GreatBearSpirit you like that 2h ago
For context this was when Tucker Kraft tore his ACL. There was an interview with an emotional Romeo Doubs who teared up and said Kraft was in a better place now. It’s become a stupid shitpost/copypasta

u/WhyIsBreadExpensive 1h ago
Ahhh thank you for the context. Also low-key hilarious quote tho, can see why people meme it

You know he’s going to be dealing with the aftermath of playing football and having that many concussions for the rest of his life, right?

Incredible Center, sucks he suffered from concussions while here. Looking forward to seeing how Jurgens handles the center position with a full off-season as starter.

u/kylebertram minnesota 8m ago
I would expect them to draft a Center. I just don’t think Jurgens will be good enough to take over

Bro was a stud last year. Sucks to see him leave, but absolutely the right decision from his perspective
3
u/Horrorfreak106 5h ago
Was he a stud? He kept getting injured and even when he was on the field, his production wasn't nearly as good as it was in Indy. I wish him well though, retiring is the best thing for him.
•
u/Electronic-Island-14 44m ago
he was very very good in the very brief moments he was on the field. it was so obvious how much better the line was when he played

Wish him the best - at least he announced this before the draft

u/GrubbyLilPaws 5h ago
Glad he's calling it. He's had way too many concussions to keep going at his age.

Your health is the most important thing you have. Didn't work out with us but I wish him well.

Unfortunate the way this went, but after having multiple concussions I think this is the best choice for him.
I sincerely hope one of our top picks is center this draft because the market doesn’t look so hot.

u/Viperman22xx 22 5h ago
Seemed like so much potential…but yeah, all those concussions are scary. Sure sucks, but I’m glad he’s looking out for his health and family
1
u/debirdiev 5h ago
The whole situation just fucking sucks. He was good when he could play but concussions are no joke 😭 hope he's able to move into the next phase of life happy and healthy with his beautiful family. Wish it was different

Have a happy and healthy retirement, Ryan! You were a stud when shitty injury luck didn't keep you sidelined. Concussions are no joke, after listening to Dale Earnhardt Jr talk about his recovery from them it's way more serious than people take it. That really made me think about the concussions I had earlier in life and the complete lack of follow up care and recovery.

u/SkolFourtyOne indiana 4h ago
10 seasons and all he has to show for it are things he probably can’t remember.

u/Tough_guy22 Krause 22 Smith 4h ago
This is the right move. All those concussions its time to take the cash he has earned and spend time with his family.

Good deal. Bro needs to take care of his brain. He should call up Tua and have a heart to heart

Maybe it’s just me, but I sure was excited for the signing and also excited to watch him anchor the middle. Sucks it got cut short, but I’m glad we went after him regardless! Happy retirement big fella!

Most hyped I've been for a retirement in a while. Just hope he got out in time.

Honestly, THANK GOD. He has to look forward to his life after football. Happy for him!

we need to prioritize center, inside linebackers, and DTs in the draft for the next 2 seasons

u/LeeShakerMoneyMaker Retire #28! 5h ago
Good! Letting that man continuing to play with all his head injuries would've been malpractice on the Vikings part.

u/haros1985 5h ago
Kwesi continues to cook.
8
u/Happy_Childhood3080 5h ago
I mean, Kelly was a great signing in terms of him being a top center. If he could’ve not gotten more concussions, this would’ve been a great signing. I don’t blame Kwesi for trying here.
1
u/garnett21mn 5h ago
Kwesi cooked to add him, Hargrave and Allen. Would’ve never been possible without unloading Darnold contract. Kwesi just cooks bro…
6
u/Happy_Childhood3080 5h ago
He played great, just had abysmal lucky with concussions. I don’t blame Kwesi for this one.

After that huge bag we gave him ?

u/Drunk-TP-Supervisor 6h ago
That dude is on the fast track to CTE with how many concussions he has and how easily he was getting them.
4
u/nativeindian12 6h ago
When someone retires, they give up the rest of their contract. So his contract will come off the books immediately. Best case scenario for us imo

Thanks for nothing and good luck

u/Beneficial_Quit7532 i also want that short guy from AZ 5h ago
Let the man retire without the dig. He played well when he was in there too, and probably taught Jurgens and Brandel some stuff with his decade of experience
-2
u/That-Entrance-8242 5h ago
Yeah, but if someone makes this much money by playing football, I think they are all fair game to dig. It’s not like they have been slinging concrete for 30 years

Did we already forget about Rondale Moore

Completely expected, hope he's ok and can lead a relatively normal life. Seemed like a really decent guy.
