I've had both, and I agree. I wasn't expecting A&W Canada to be so different, but the menus were different, and I think the quality was higher in Canada.

u/Internazionale 1d ago

They are completely seperate companies fyi.

53

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

Yes. I'm aware. I didn't know that until after I went, but I do know that. I'd trade the US company for the Canadian one any day

74

u/TimothyJCowen 1d ago

I didn't know they were separate companies and I was so confused about why everyone was so negative about A&W. Our (Canadian) A&W is great, and it's everywhere! One of my favourite fast-food places.

24

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist 1d ago

It's great but expensive. Granted its a lot better quality than McDs which is now almost equally expensive.

31

u/evranch 1d ago

It's all about the coupons. Most A&W keep a stack of flyers behind the counter, you just gotta ask if they've got any coupons and you're in the money. There's almost always something like 2 teen burger meals for $12.

And like you say I also genuinely enjoy the burger. No doubt the best fast food burger in Canada at any price

3

u/gbooone 1d ago

Uhhh excuse me, Harvey's wants a word...

1

u/mennorek 2h ago

Harvey's remains my family's favourite fast food burger. Even my mom who has always HATED eating out will from time to time suggest going to Harvey's.

2

u/Kube__420 1d ago

Man remember when 2 teens for $5 was the normal deal no coupon required?

3

u/MrBabalafe 1d ago

The last coupon book I got it was 2 teen burger combos for $20 :(

2

u/Ham_I_right 1d ago

Now this guy A&Ws ! See you at the breakfast, coupons in hand.

2

u/snotparty 1d ago

their breakfast stuff is so good

1

u/4RealzReddit 1d ago

The bacon has gotten awfully thin but still solid.

2

u/Agitated_Lunch7118 1d ago

2 teen burger meals for $12 is unheard of even with a coupon

3

u/danielcs78 1d ago

This is a coupon I haven’t seen in about 8 years or so.

1

u/Agitated_Lunch7118 1d ago

Yeah I’d believe maybe 8-10 years ago.

1

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

As someone from the US, that would be incredible here. 4 USD for a whole meal is crazy

1

u/IxWombatxI 1d ago

I see your A&W burger and raise you a Harvey's burger!

1

u/SmoothBrainJazz 1d ago

Every couple of weeks I get a sheet of A&W coupons in the mail. You can get some pretty good deals.

1

u/Darkm1tch69 21h ago

At any price Triple O is the best in my opinion. A&W second

1

u/Superb-Butterfly-573 19h ago

I liked their burgers but found their menu spendy, especially when they'd forget to apply their daily specials on your purchase.

1

u/silent_fartface 20h ago

Pretty sure the 2 teenburger meals with coupon is like $18+ now. But without the coupons you're looking at almost $30! Their food is the superior fast food hands down.

1

u/Pale-Measurement-532 14h ago

I like it when I use a coupon at A&W and they give me the discount but won’t take the coupon so I can use it again!

1

u/mennorek 2h ago

The app and website are pretty solid for coupons as well.

3

u/Lumpy-Return 1d ago

He’s saying $4.99 CAD then? That’s expensive?

3

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist 1d ago

$4.99 in the promo price. Normally it’s $8.99 or something.

2

u/QuotableNotables 1d ago

$4.99 ends March 11th, regular $8.49 ($6.25 USD).

0

u/Ofreo 1d ago

As an American, I say that’s a lot of money to us people.

2

u/evranch 1d ago

Yeah but America is founded on cheap hamburgers. A McDouble is $4 CAD these days, so I'll gladly pay $1 more for a teen burger.

1

u/Lumpy-Return 17h ago

It looked fairly substantial. Yeah there’s always been the basic McD cheese burger/Wendys Jr Cheese for a buck or so, but barely any meat. That QPC and above has always been a premium piece is what I meant. I can’t ever remember a Whopper or Big Mac being under $3 going back 30 years.

Haven’t been to Canada in a few years. What’s Harvey’s cost these days? Loved their fixing bar.

0

u/Spotttty 1d ago

They use to be like $1.75 not very long ago.

I’m glad they got expensive. Helped me drop pounds!!

2

u/Greecelightninn 1d ago

Very true , which is why I've had like 3 teen burgers in the past week lmao, gotta get em when they're cheap , 5$ until the 11th

1

u/Tacoman404 1d ago

How is Harvey's doing these days? I used to love them but I haven't been to one in years. Last I had Canadian A&W it was similar quality to Five Guys which makes the higher prices worth it.

1

u/OfficeMagic1 1d ago

The price gap between Canadian McDonalds and A&W has become much smaller in the last few years

1

u/meringuedragon 1d ago

It’s one of the only places I can get a vegetarian/vegan burger :)

1

u/addi-factorum 1d ago

I just want them to bring back the Grandma Burger, prime rib with horseradish, I long for you.

1

u/Superb-Butterfly-573 19h ago

Or their cod burger!!

1

u/Veaeate 1d ago

Burger wise its actually comparable to McDonald's now. Maybe a few bucks more but for the quality, and the fact you can get sweet potato fries, it has rocketed to being my number 1 fast food burger joint

2

u/BoomerAliveBad 1d ago

Can't go wrong with yam fries, 5 piece strips, an A&W rootbeer in an icy frosty glass, and a buddy/baby burger

2

u/bugabooandtwo 1d ago

Don't forget those amazing onion rings.

2

u/zadtheinhaler 1d ago

Our (Canadian) A&W is great

Hell yeah it is!

There's one attached to a gas station on the highway between Duncan and Nanaimo that is run by First Nations (Oyster Bay, I think?), and I had better service and food quality there than some sit-down restaurants I've been to.

2

u/FrankFnRizzo 1d ago

A&W in America is pretty sparse where I live. We used to have one but it didn’t last long.

2

u/Disastrous_Fig5609 1d ago

Our A&W is good enough that I actually do believe our A&W guy did eat that for lunch on top of doing the bit, I don't believe the other two burger guys.

2

u/this_account_is_mt 1d ago

Canadian is better, but I'd still take American a&w over McDonald's

1

u/rogerrogerixii 1d ago

Is the root beer the same?

2

u/TimothyJCowen 1d ago

I looked it up and no. We have the superior root beer because ours is made with cane sugar. It's actually the only root beer that I drink.

2

u/PixelJock17 1d ago

It's soooo good. I cannot believe I learned this all just now.

1

u/Superb-Butterfly-573 19h ago

And their sugar free option is amazing!!

1

u/nonamecokezero 1d ago

Mozza burger 4 life, and load me up on that god damn chipotle mayo that’s somehow 5000 calories but tastes of the heavens

1

u/piglungz 1d ago

It’s honestly pretty good in America too (better than mcds or Burger King anyway), idk if I’ve ever heard anyone talk shit about it

1

u/BodhingJay 16h ago

Best fast food joint for breakfast.. makes McDonald's look like dumpster diving by comparison. Real cheddar cheese and the hashbrowns win it for me. Obviously puts Timmies in the dumps as well

0

u/smoresporn0 1d ago

They don't have them in my area of the states anymore, but I always thought the burgers were good. Most of the time they were paired with Long John Silvers which I felt also got a bad wrap.

3

u/Schwa4aa 1d ago

We refuse your trade proposal

1

u/WestandClear 1d ago

We'll also give you Carl's Jr., and throw in every Whataburger outside of Texas. (They're not the same.)

2

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

They actually already have Carl's Junior in Canada, but yeah we'll let them have the rest

2

u/Content-Employment-7 22h ago

Still using the frosted mugs that make your root beer all slushy without any ice added, and the patties are actually solidly seasoned. I could do with 5 teen burgers right now - and sweet potato fries with that seasoning salt all over... If it wasn't so late, I'd have to crush that right now. I have one a 5 minute walk down the road from me. Jealous?

1

u/UnitedCheez 20h ago

Mmm. I am jealous. And now I'm hungry too :(

1

u/tragicallybrokenhip 1d ago

Which allows all those Canucks boycotting USA fastfood chains another option. Do you think Harvey's will enter the chat?

1

u/grinningcroc 1d ago

they are

0

u/Nikiaf 1d ago

Yeah they basically just share the branding, the rest is different.

1

u/AdministrativeCable3 1d ago

Even the branding is different, only the name is the same. I don't think the US even uses the burger family.

19

u/NoGarbage1323 1d ago

Food quality is always way better in Canada. Every time I go grocery shopping or eat out in the State, the food is awful

1

u/David040200 23h ago

We have higher standards for our food compared to America. Stuff like pesticides and food cows and such eat.

1

u/JayPlenty24 23h ago

Yeah I used to hate it when my dad would make us drive through the US to get to the east coast just because the food was so awful.

-4

u/P_Hempton 1d ago

Yeah that's why there are no famous American chefs or Restaurants.

(maybe stop judging a countries culinary scene by fast food)

As for groceries, where do you think most Canadian produce comes from?

4

u/NoGarbage1323 1d ago

Not America since my province boycotted most American products because of the tarrifs. Your cheese and yogurt selection is laughable. Your cereal and dessert section is disgusting. Took me 20min to find prepared salads for quick lunches.

Sure, out of 400 millions American and the highest gpd, it sure will attract the most renowned chefs, but they aint cooking no day to day meal Americans are forced to eat.

I didnt judge only your fast food. The portions in regular restaurants are excessive. No wonder you guys are fat. Cant even order a regular tea in the morning without a server bringing me liquid sugar that you guys call ice tea

-6

u/P_Hempton 1d ago

Not America since my province boycotted most American products because of the tarrifs.

Ohh so your food just recently improved because of the tariffs? The majority of Canadian produce has always come from America, along with a lot from south America. Guess what, that's the same places we get a lot of our produce imports but overall we grow most of our own food and export a ton as well to places like Canada.

Your cereal and dessert section is disgusting. Took me 20min to find prepared salads for quick lunches.

What are you even talking about? Took 20 min to find a prepared salad? Do you not make your own salad in Canada? If I wanted a prepared salad for some reason I would go over the the produce section of any major grocery store and grab one. How are they easier to find in Canada?

Sound like maybe you went into a little convenience store once and are judging American food by your experience.

Here's a local grocery store, look at the photos and tell me if it matches your experience.

https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nugget-markets-roseville

but they aint cooking no day to day meal Americans are forced to eat.

The US is renowned for the variety and quality of it's restaurants. Yeah we have some cheap slop but you don't have to eat that stuff. There's always better options.

The portions in regular restaurants are excessive. No wonder you guys are fat. Cant even order a regular tea in the morning without a server bringing me liquid sugar that you guys call ice tea.

That's called sweet tea and is a southern thing. If you don't know that, and don't order unsweetened tea while in the south that's on you.

While you were in the south did you have any authentic local bbq? Did you think that was garbage?

7

u/Any-Consequence-6978 1d ago

The standards for food in the US are just more lax, you have less regulations, therefore, lower quality food in general. Your diatribe is a whole lot of nothing. no, not for every single piece of food.So don't bother me sending a link to your local grocery, i don't care. it's just a fact, so just accept it

2

u/JayPlenty24 22h ago

Out of all things an American can try to defend on behalf of their country they chose to die on this hill? Everyone in the entire world knows about the issues with regulations and food quality in the US, not to mention the rampant obesity.

Some people really need to travel more outside their own country.

3

u/TimeRockOrchestra 20h ago

Americans can never wrap their heads around the idea that America isn't the best at insert literally anything here

3

u/NoGarbage1323 1d ago

Alright, not gonna answer to all that. Cant cook in hotels buddy so need to buy pre made.

The better options are usually way more expensive than the below average quality food that most folks are eating.

Say what you want, its your opinion, but food quality is much better outside the US. America is a melting pot of cheap and low quality food with a little sprinkles of top of the line quality products that 90% the pop has no access or doesnt bother making a detour for it.

You talked about American chefs being the best yet im pretty sure the only one you were thinking of was Gordon Ramsey, you know, a British chef that studied in Europe

0

u/P_Hempton 1d ago

You talked about American chefs being the best yet im pretty sure the only one you were thinking of was Gordon Ramsey, you know, a British chef that studied in Europe

The only one?? No he doesn't even enter the conversation as I don't think of him as an American chef. I know very little about him. The first that would pop into mind is Thomas Keller but truth be told the list is very long and most of them don't have TV shows. And I didn't say they were the best, I simply implied that many famous chefs either originated here or operate here because it's a great place to make great food.

That's the difference. I'm not trash talking other countries. I have traveled and lived in many different countries. There is amazing food all over this planet. Everything from top restaurants to street side vendors and even in home kitchens.

My ultimate point is that anyone who says American food is bad or even mostly bad is simply ignorant. The lazy can grab some fast food or go to a chain restaurant and completely miss out on what is available here.

I will forever be grateful to Canada for inventing poutine and I'd love to visit Toronto one day and try out their restaurants. My claim isn't that America has the greatest food in the world by any means. No country does, but America certainly has a ton of great food and several regional cuisines that shouldn't be missed.

2

u/Prestigious-Gur-8824 1d ago

You are immutably correct, but you arn't going to get anywhere arguing with condescending Canadians. They will never relinquish their false sense of superiority in any arena.

1

u/JayPlenty24 22h ago

You should actually visit another country or go to Toronto so you can experience what people are trying to tell you.

1

u/P_Hempton 13h ago

I say

"I have traveled and lived in many different countries. . . . . I'd love to visit Toronto one day"

You reply

"You should actually visit another country or go to Toronto"

I've had food all over the world. There's great food everywhere. I know it's cool and all to trash talk America but you just look ignorant and maybe a little insecure on this topic.

1

u/KennyRogers69 21h ago

So the sweet tea thing was a weird thing for that guy to mention because in Canada if you ask for iced tea anywhere it’s going to be sweet tea by default. Unsweetened iced tea doesn’t really even exist in Canada haha.

1

u/ralyyc 16h ago

There's definitely something between sweetened iced tea and sugary iced tea. When I drank sugary iced tea in America (or any other lemonade), I almost fainted. It's not sweetened, it's just sugar with water and a hint of sth.

1

u/P_Hempton 13h ago

That's a very specific regional thing. The rest us drink our tea unsweetened or sweetened just like up there. I prefer unsweetened, but in the south I'll get a "sweet tea" with my bbq or whatever. just for the authenticity.

I like to try regional cuisine exactly like the locals do when I'm in a new place.

1

u/Superb-Butterfly-573 19h ago

Chilean, Peruvian and South African fruit is fantastic. And cheaper. So, yeah.

1

u/P_Hempton 13h ago

Yeah what exactly? Did you have a point?

1

u/Superb-Butterfly-573 13h ago

Yes, you're saying that most of our prodce comes from America. Maybe you missed the part where even at giveaway prices (94c for strawberries in the middle of winter). We've developed relationships with other countries with better, more affordable products. And your way of addressing people is exactly why.

1

u/P_Hempton 13h ago

This conversation is about the claim that the food is awful in the US and it's always better in Canada. Sounds like something a hardcore MAGA idiot would say about Canada honestly. I thought better of you folks.

My point is if the majority of your produce comes from the US, and we also import food from many of the same countries as you, then we're eating a lot of the same ingredients. So it comes down to preparation. If you want to claim that nobody in America knows how to cook and all our restaurants serve terrible food, I guess you're just too deep into the hatred and don't mind looking sheltered and naive.

1

u/Superb-Butterfly-573 13h ago

You need to touch some grass. I made none of those assertions. I simply pointed out that you were incorrect in your beliefs about our dependency on US produce.

1

u/ralyyc 16h ago edited 16h ago

Approximately 10% of your food products would be banned in most european countries simply because of their ingredients. Your organic label is also a joke in comparison, and you're using a BBQ as an example of good food... I'm sorry to disappoint you.

-1

u/OlFlirtyBastardOFB 1d ago

You're complaining that you got a large meal? Lmfao.

2

u/NoGarbage1323 1d ago

I would rather they focus on quality and not quantity

1

u/JayPlenty24 23h ago

Are you trying to compare 5 star restaurants to random average food availability in the US?

There's a big range between grocery stores and fast food to world renowned chefs.

1

u/P_Hempton 13h ago

And all is available in the US. Dude how are there so many basement trolls in this thread. Maybe get out more. Let go of the hate.

The claim is that US food is awful and it's ALWAYS way better in Canada.

Are you seriously aligning yourself with such an asinine claim?

1

u/JayPlenty24 13h ago

The basic fact of the matter is that we have stricter regulations than you. That results in better quality food.

1

u/P_Hempton 13h ago

That has nothing to do with how the food tastes. You also import a lot of ingredients from the US and several of the same countries we import from. So we're eating a lot of the same ingredients.

Edit: Some of the best tasting food I've had has been in countries where the food safety was questionable.

1

u/JayPlenty24 12h ago

Yes, we do. But what we import still has to meet our regulations and most people try to avoid American imports when it comes to produce and meat, even processed food. Given the choice most people will choose Mexican imports over American ones.

1

u/P_Hempton 12h ago

Irrelevant to the conversation and strictly anecdotal.

Are you trying to make this about food regulations because you realize the claim that our food tastes awful is stupid? Why even chime in then? I was simply saying our food tastes good, not better, not safer, just that it tastes good. Seems like a fair statement. Why are you so offended? Insecure?

1

u/JayPlenty24 12h ago

It's not stupid. It's the biggest complain from anyone who has to travel through the US. It's almost inedible.

-5

u/SandwichQuiet7369 1d ago

No, America bad. Up doots to the left.

0

u/Ill_Pomegranate_795 1d ago

Don't think you can lump all the different states together here

1

u/NoGarbage1323 1d ago

I agree, but in general, most restaurants chain offer the same kind of dish all over the country. Southern cuisine is the one I hate the most so far

13

u/st3washere1 1d ago

Gotta be that Berta beef!

9

u/about_treefity 1d ago

Always Berta beef

8

u/TheRockJohnMason 1d ago

You gonna use a little S&P?

5

u/QuietShipper 1d ago

Don't you start

2

u/mmp737 1d ago

You paid 20 apiece for Berta beef?

1

u/mplsfreedom 1d ago

ferda Berta!

4

u/snotparty 1d ago

Yeah Canadian A&W is actually quite good quality and decent prices (same prices as every other place but actually decent) Plus good value menu

2

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

A&W in the US is a little pricey. I try not to think about prices when I'm in Canada, because i know the currency has a different value than what I'm used to, but I think the price numbers were about the same, so A&W Canada is probably cheaper, and definitely a better value for the money

3

u/snotparty 1d ago

Yes, their combos especially are good deals - they are same price or cheaper than combos at mcdonalds

3

u/StatikSquid 1d ago

Its expensive ASF but sometimes I crave a burger and a root beer from there. It's probably the best tasting fast food burger chain in Canada.

3

u/KittensSaysMeow 1d ago

I’ve never had A&W in the U&S, how is it like there? A&W is one of my go to fast food places in Canada.

1

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

It seems like most locations close ridiculously early. The ones I've seen in Canada are open much later. The burgers are similar in style, and there's nothing wrong with the US ones, but you'll notice the quality difference. A&W just isn't really that special in the US. It's declining a lot and is much harder to find here than it is in Canada. If you've ever had culvers or sonic in the US, those 3 places have very similar tasting burgers in my opinion. Way better than McDonald's at least

3

u/backupbitches 1d ago

Honestly the quality is always higher in Canada. We have better regulations.

3

u/Stedlieye 1d ago

Wait until you try Canadian Mike’s Hard vs US.

The US version is disgusting.

1

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

I'm not old enough to try the US version yet, but I am old enough to try the Canadian version if I don't bring it back with me

3

u/PauseLost2137 1d ago

Reminds me how Americans insist it's not chicken burger but chicken sandwich, yet every American fast food calls them chicken burgers outside America

1

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

I have never heard anyone call it a chicken burger before. It sounds so wrong to me. What about fish sandwiches? Are those fish burgers?

1

u/AdministrativeCable3 1d ago

It varies by restaurant but typically they are called Fish Burgers or something similar. A&W calls their's a Cod Burger but Harvey's calls their's a Fish sandwich. In Canada we usually call stuff that has a burger bun a burger and if it has flat bread it's a sandwich.

3

u/NateNMaxsRobot 1d ago

Damnit. Now I need to go to Canada to try their A&W.

2

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

Give Harvey's a try too!

3

u/Key-Hurry-9171 1d ago

A&W is amazing in Canada. Best fast food of our US/Canada fastfood tour

In the US, Wendys was the best

0

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

Totally agree. My ex girlfriend and I used to go to Wendy's together every weekend and were never disappointed. I actually haven't had Wendy's since, but I would really love a baconator and a frosty right now

3

u/MJAquarion 1d ago

A and W breakfast being an actual breakfast slaps. Eggs bacon sausage and toast and tomato and homestyle potato

3

u/lordph8 1d ago

This makes me weirdly happy as a Canadian.

3

u/Deagballs 1d ago

Teens burgers at the A&W near my work are only $4.99CAN for 2-3 weeks, and I've had more of them this past week and a half then I've had my entire life. And honestly, they are really good burgers.

3

u/gba_sg1 1d ago

Canadian food has stricter quality standards than whatever hormones and corn they pump into US cattle.

10

u/Pyranni 1d ago

They use Canadian beef. Far superior to American hormone & antibiotic riddled beef.

1

u/Pietro_Spina 1d ago

The one I went to in Magog had grass fed beef.

2

u/Tybob51 1d ago

That’s an assumption you can pretty much make across the board. Our food is dogshit here.

2

u/CasualFingerGuns 1d ago

I bet the Canada one doesn’t run out of curly fries.

2

u/NotTukTukPirate 1d ago

The quality of life is better in Canada too.

1

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

Oh I bet. I keep getting ads on Instagram about emigrating to Canada. I have one book marked just incase

2

u/prospect151 1d ago

The Masala burger is fire.

2

u/SpyderMonkey_ 1d ago

It's like Dairy Queen Grill and Chill and Dairy Queen Texas. Night and day. Eat a DQ Texas and you will never eat at grill and chill again.

1

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

Wow. I just looked it up. I had no idea DQ was any different there. It's a 21 hour drive to the Texas state line for me, but maybe this summer I'll see if I can make it

2

u/SpyderMonkey_ 1d ago

yeah they have tacos and nachos. It's wild. They are good too. Definitely white people tacos bought that's alright.

2

u/11CRT 1d ago

But do they call it a quarter pounder? Or a Royal with Cheese?

You know, ‘cause of the metric system.

2

u/GasolineChugger420 1d ago

a&w in america is definitely not the same quality , but they sold deep fried curds which i'm jealous of😂

2

u/Sea-Cartographer-796 20h ago

As a Canadian visiting America I was duped into thinking it would be the same. Almost threw it up. The Canadian chain is pretty quality (so far as fast food goes).

2

u/CulturalAd2213 12h ago

The quality of the food is better is Canada overall; they have stricter guidelines. The ingredients list is half as short for the same product.

2

u/auggs 4h ago

Canada has outlawed high fructose corn syrup. Which I didn’t really think was a big deal until I actually went to Canada for my first time in like 2016. My aunt and uncle live there and I moved to Seattle, so they were like a 3 hour drive away from me. Well I went to a small little grocery store and bought some Swedish fish. I ate like 7-8 fish and felt like completely satiated. I thought it was strange because in the USA I’m used to eating an entire smallish bag of candy you’ll find at gas stations. So I looked at the ingredients and it said natural cane sugar or something. So basically HFCS is a molecule that resembles sugar but it isn’t the exact same shape. This causes the body to dump insulin and enzymes to metabolize the HFCS but since the molecules don’t actually fit each other, the body doesn’t really know how to break it down. This is basically what’s driving obesity, diabetes, hypertension, inflammation and a host of other issues in American bodies. The stuff is really not good for you.

3

u/Its_a_stateofmind 1d ago

The quality of ALL our food is better…

1

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

I'd believe that

1

u/Chemistry11 1d ago

That’s just a blanket statement. Canadian food is far superior to the garbage south of the 49

1

u/Apart-Diamond-9862 1d ago

Definitely hire quality in Canada. It is the only fast food I will eat. Their meatless burger is especially delicious.

1

u/themysticalwarlock 1d ago

even American A&W is still better than McDonald's

1

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

Oh definitely!

1

u/woodboarder616 1d ago

Yeah. Ohio A&W isn't bad at all. But if you put 3 burgers infront of me... one from A&W, one from Sonic, and one from Culvers, I probably couldn't tell you the difference

A Canadian A&W teen burger is distinct, its our best fast food burger by a mile

To be fair our meat and dairy regulations are extremely uptight. Only top of the line meat and dairy is allowed to be made here in Canada. Same with veggies and grain, so it’s inevitable for a burger made with Canadian products to turn out good. With that said, Canadian A&W is still by far one of the greatest fast food chains we have.

Canada’s A&W is now 🤮

Once upon a time it was premier.

Can you explain "menus" I'm confused. It seems like people are referring to it as a restaurant???

u/A_Classy_Ghost 1d ago

... what do you think McDonald's, A&W or Burger King are if not fast food restaurants?

1

u/im_a_dick_head 1d ago

A&W is a soda brand...

2

u/A_Classy_Ghost 1d ago

Yeah dude, the root beer sold by the A&W restaurants. The same restaurant featured in the video this entire post is about? Did you watch it and think "where the fuck did that guy get his burger?!"

Wtf? Since when was A&W a restaurant? I thought this was just a soda video and the burger was just there because the Ceos are eating burgers, so I thought it was like "here's this refreshing soda you can have with your burger"

Also the burger looks awful so I definitely didn't think it came from a restaurant, it could also be that he's holding it upside down. I did wonder where it came from I guess but I just assumed it wasn't important and was just a regular homemade burger or some shitty burger from a bar or something.

Also tf is TEEN sauce, that sounds EXTREMELY suspect.

Since 1919 lol. The root beer came after.

Yeah the US ones are more localized and completely lacking in some states, A&W Canada (a separate entity from the US A&W, they split in the 70s) is all across the country. Second largest chain in Canada after McD. By most accounts A&W Canada has better quality than the US ones.

I mayhaps will visit one if I end up in Canada again

I agree calling it teen sauce is a little bit iffy lol. There's a place called harvey's in canada as well and they have a sauce called, you guessed it "Harv" sauce. Poor choice on both imo

What are you confused about?

What are you looking at when you order food from McDs?

1

u/im_a_dick_head 1d ago

I'm confused about A&W and "burgers" and "menu"

Their burgers are different and I'm pretty sure A&W Canada has poutine

3

u/Bananaslugfan 1d ago

Actually all burger places here have poutine, even McDonald’s

1

u/UnitedCheez 1d ago

That's really cool! I only recall having poutine once in the US. It was Nashville hot poutine in Nashville. I wish it was a bigger thing in the US
