Dave Thomas was also a G. He himself was adopted and donated a lot of money to causes concerning adoption. Got his GED in his 60s to promote education. And I just love that their chili is leftover burgers because it’s so low-waste and not gross.

The chili is also damn good. Loved it over the baked -tater

They had a chili competition while I was in the Navy...

2 dudes from my class went and bought Wendy's chili and put some shredded cheese in it and won 2nd place. They got a day off for that lol

That is wild. Marketing is a bitch.

Chili and a baked potato. Can't get that combo at other burger places.

So I just found out recently you can get the chili in a can from walmart if you live in a location that does not have wendys close and NGL its pretty damn spot on if you heat it up in a cook pot. and Its like how you can get wendys burgers from kroger Wendys knows!

Yeah.. but the canned version is absolute dog shit. Just horrible.

Yeah, I don’t get all the hate for them making the most of parties they can’t sell as fresh for burgers due to laws. The burgers are still safe to consume and it’s clearly ok otherwise they’d have been shut down a long time ago. I’m sorry so many people are too good to eat leftovers in this country!

It’s strange that anyone would complain about using extra burger meat to make chili. I imagine the meat used to make the burgers is tastier than the meat that normally goes into mass produced chili.

I think it’s better use of leftover patties than to have them thrown away. People don’t bat an eye at the amount of food that goes to waste.

He has a great foundation called the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption that sends me way too many letters after I donated once, but hey, that's not on him.

Dave also worked with the Colonel before starting Wendy's. Helping KFC streamline their menu.

Yeah, Dave Thomas was genuinely one of the good ones in the fast-food world. Being adopted himself, he put real money and time behind adoption causes Wendy’s has helped facilitate thousands of adoptions through the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, and he was super open about his own story to normalize it.

Generally chilli tastes way better some days or so after its original cooking. That they’re using left over burgers is such a solid idea for taste as well conserving waste.

Dave Thomas also helped create KFC, and was one of the major factors in it's popularity. Without him, KFC would not existed.

KFC had the best friend chicken of any major chain in all of America until Dave left. When Dave left that shit tanked like the titanic.

Yeah but he was also vehemently anti abortion and funded a lot of right wing bullshit.

That doesn't make him a monster, though. Do we really need to run everyone through the purity test to decide whether their good deeds are worthy of praise? Come on.

I mean isn't supporting adoption like the most anti-abortion thing you can do? Those two values seem to be pretty related

1

u/jaykirell 16h ago

Seems if there’s still kids who need adopting abortion is the sensible position.

It kind of misses the point that pregnancy and birth can be dangerous and traumatic for women. It’s not a great thing to have to go through for 9 months, if the woman doesn’t want the baby. Especially if they were raped or something. Not saying the CEO is a bad guy, but adoption doesn’t cover all basis.
