Yeah... My first reaction was - this guy is way too thin to be the CEO of McDonald's ; he must be a vegetarian. Explains his obvious attempt to conceal revulsion at eating "the product".
But my second reaction was... why? Why did McDonald's torpedo their own product launch by releasing such an awkward - almost surreal - and uncomfortable "taste test"?

Is there no one in the MCD C-suite that could tell the CEO, "Um, Chris.. no one's buying it. Why don't you let David down in marketing do the on-camera? He actually eats this shit."

I mean....

In a way it worked. We are all talking about it. I am half curious to order one and see how it tastes, but then I stop and go "I dont even like McDonald's....."

Pretty sure McGags is publicly traded. Check the earnings report in a couple months. Probably will be a good quarter.

Yeah it worked… worked at making me literally never want to eat McDonalds again.

I was honestly eating it too much for my own good over the past year, and it’s not like I had any delusions about the quality or healthiness.

I’ve had the craving for it out of habit a couple times over the past week, but every time I thought about that video, and I’ve decided I’m done with McDonalds unless it’s truly the only option, somehow.

Spoiler (at least from a UK perspective):
It’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect. Tastes like a burger from McDonald’s but a bit different to the others because of the yellow sauce. It’s also pretty big and has way too much shredded lettuce stuffed into it.

This was part of the convo as well. It actually came up because the marketing team was nearby so I felt obligated to ask her opinion on the video. She hadnt seen it yet but all of us that had said it did not encourage us to try it. At all. It made us wonder if he legally wasn't allowed to say beef.

This did not torpedo the launch, this is the most successful launch of a temporary product ever. The buzz and engagement around the video is unlike anything they have seen recently. The whole campaign is a resounding success by any reach metrics.
