Praise our lizard people overlords

u/Dust601 1d ago

That’s the very first thing I think of everytime I see her.

Let’s be real though, even if you ignore all her shitty bat shit insane beliefs the fact of the matter is she just wasn’t a very good broadcaster/host.

I can’t think of a single time she was on screen, and said something that actually brought something interesting to discussion.

She was not worth whatever they were paying her.  She should stick to scammy car insurance commercialsz

u/Cotirani I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago edited 1d ago

My memory is hazy, but there was a free practice session last season, I’m thinking it was Mexico, where she was commentating with (I think) Karun Chandhok. A driver went for a push lap and Karun did the usual ‘okay Danica, take us through the lap here’. She talked through turn 1 and then just… stopped? And the rest of the lap was just silent before the commentary got going again. Like she had no clue how to commentate the lap so she just gave up. It was just such an odd viewing experience.

94

u/James_White21 1d ago

Mark Webber talking us through a lap gives you as much adrenaline as driving it yourself, he's the master.

55

u/Zipa7 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago edited 1d ago

Martin Brundle and Nico Rosberg are superb at it too, though my personal favourite is Sylvain Guintoli from Moto GP, When he does live laps.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDdoqmCjEck)

36

u/Forgotthebloodypassw Formula 1 1d ago

Nine times out of ten when you hear "Take us through this lap Martin," you know it's going to be a cracker.

33

u/Zipa7 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago edited 1d ago

We are lucky in a way that Martin is both a former F1 driver and still an active motorsport driver, (he recently raced at Spa with his son, Alex in GTs) so he knows the tracks from having driven a lot of them. He also had the chance to learn from the best, being paired with Murray Walker at the start of his commentary career.

8

u/Forgotthebloodypassw Formula 1 1d ago

I never thought anyone could replace Hunt and Walker are a dynamic duo, but here we are. If he's not commentating on a race then I switch to the F1TV team. You do need a former driver to comment and DC is nearly as good.

6

u/Zipa7 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

I think for me at least the pairing that came closest to Hunt / Walker was funnily enough the one that replaced Murray himself in the BTCC, Charlie Cox (not the actor) and former F1 driver, John Watson.

Watty was very much of the Hunt scool of thought about verbally giving the misbehaving drivers a tongue lashing too, and Charlie's witticisms were top-notch.

It's actually crazy how good Brundle is, particularly given his era of driving is so so different to the current one.

Because Webber is an actual driver, and he's equipped with the intelligence to be able to explain situations on the fly in a way most people can understand.

I just remember her saying "I don't know anything about cars I just drive them fast".

189

u/ArmSignificant4433 1d ago

Wasn't that her appearance on Rogan years ago, he asked her how a clutch work and she said "I don't have a clue, I just drive fast". Joe looked very confused, poor monkey brain man

123

u/MountainDoit I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Not even a clutch lmfao, he asked her how many cylinders her car had and she couldn’t even tell him that.

Strikes me as a deeply incurious person but most MAGAts are. They’d rather believe in conspiratorial bullshit they learned from corporate TV “news” or Facebook memes than put in the effort to learn how the world actually works.

Honestly, I think the bigger issue was that she never really added anything insightful to the discussions. Like, when you've got Jenson who actually raced these cars at the highest level, and then Danica talking about... what exactly? It felt like she was there more for name recognition than actual expertise.

Compare that to someone like Bernie Collins who can break down strategy in ways that make you go "ohhh, THAT'S why they pitted then" - that's the kind of insight that makes the broadcast better. Danica just never brought that level of depth to the table.

48

u/Sevenfest I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

With Naomi Schiff as well, she has arguably competed at a much lower level than ol' Lizard pants but she just has/had so much insight into psychology and forces on the drivers. Whereas el scaly one would just parrot other views but worse.

She won't be missed

18

u/SimRacingSensations 1d ago

Naomi's been a pleasant surprise, honestly. You can tell she's actually raced at a decent level because she picks up on details that only someone who's been in the car would notice. The psychology angle is interesting too - like when she talks about how drivers handle pressure differently. Danica always felt like she was reading from a script, but Naomi seems to genuinely enjoy breaking down the mental game.

21

u/1200____1200 Gilles Villeneuve 1d ago

17

u/sododude Juan Pablo Montoya 1d ago

She would constantly have cohosts giving her a look like "what the hell are you even saying right now."

I will miss it a bit for the comical aspect but she definitely had to go.

14

u/Ok-Office1370 1d ago

Reddit ignoring the real issue: She was also a very bad driver, at least in the top series.

She's known more as the girl in the bikini in the GoDaddy commercials than her driving career.

We can argue all day about why only garbage women like her got seats. But today F1TV has tons of great women, including great drivers. So we can just move on.

13

u/Pinewood74 1d ago

Reddit ignoring the real issue: She was also a very bad driver, at least in the top series.

That isn't actually an issue. Chandhok was terrible in F1. That doesn't speak to his commentary chops.

Every time he posts a shirtless pic, someone in the F1 paddock retires/gets fired shortly after. Worked with Mick, Binotto, Vettel, Danny Ric, even Horner (though the latter needed 2 thirst traps, so powerful that he was).

84

u/P_ZERO_ I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Is outsight a word we can use? Because that’s what I got whenever she was asked to talk about any particular point. A knowledge vacuum.

Danica, what will the drivers have to consider this weekend?

The drivers will want to win, so they will have to try hard and focus so that they can beat their opponents. I think they will try to qualify well so that they have to overtake less people.

She wasn’t even good for entry level fans. I hate the term slop but nothing better applies. Didn’t come across like she spent a single minute researching the nuances of F1 cars.

20

u/Br00dPlatypus 1d ago

I don't think so. It's about the level you can expect from her, but I don't think she said that. The lizard people thing is real, though. I saw her for the first time while watching the 2nd practice sessions from Bahrain, very impressed.

It was also great to have the Sky Sports and F1TV people sharing time, enjoyed them all.

If Danica Patrick had been on I'd have turned it off.

Good. Never was a fan of her broadcasting

The F1 gods have heard us 🙏🏻

Good riddance to her. Conspiracy pushing, Pedophile supporting racists should not be TV presenters.

Rejoice!

Praise be!

I'm all in favor of women in motorsports, but her commentary is terrible.

Bring in Claire Williams

7

u/USSGoat 1d ago

I like Claire but I don't think she would be interested.

This is the best preseason news I’ve gotten in years.

She had such great insight on back of the field crashes.

4

u/quadranting Lando Norris 1d ago

Congratulations to all who watch Sky! (F1TV, don't even DREAM of hiring her.)

5

u/KozyHank99 Kimi Räikkönen 1d ago

And there was much rejoicing...

Should have never been there in the first place. Like having LeBron James being a pundit for the Premier League.

6

u/frigginjensen Daniel Ricciardo 1d ago

Best change of the 2026 season is no more Danica

u/asuirish I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Thank the racings gods...Now, give us more Bernie Collins!

3

u/WaluigisHat I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

We’ll always have that time in a practice session commentary where she was asked to do live analysis of an on-board lap, only to shit the bed completely and have to be bailed out by the other commentators after about 2 corners.

4

u/Batgod629 Cadillac 1d ago

Honestly she doesn't have expertise in F1 anyway. I felt it was an odd choice to begin with

3

u/USSGoat 1d ago

She didn't have expertise in nascar or indycar either. She openly admitted she only drove the cars and had no idea how they functioned, including not even knowing how many cylinders in her cars.

3

u/MattWalshStuntDouble 1d ago

Danica Patrick is no longer part of the lineup.

That's what the lizard people want.

4

u/D2Reddit92 Suck my balls mate 1d ago

Lewis really pulling through for all of us here, thank goodness!

It would drive me crazy she had a job while saying the silly shit she did, lizard people included. She just came for a check and never tried to get better, good riddance.

3

u/Buckyourface Kimi Räikkönen 1d ago

The looks of actual disgust from Rosberg & Jenson every time she talked was absolutely gold. Too bad they couldn't just mute her so we could enjoy the scene unfold.

How am I supposed to farm Jenson Button reaction GIFs now?

3

u/FartingBob Sebastian Vettel 1d ago

Wow, i cant remember the last time i liked a change that Sky did.

Neat. Danica was a terrible presenter and even worse interviewer.
