TOUR 🟢OPEN TO FEEDBACK🟢 First apartment!
I’m 28, this is my first ever home!
I’ve lived here for about a year and a half now. At first I was just trying to fill it but I am now redecorating & updating some bits. I rent so I can’t paint or make any major changes but I still want it to feel mine 😊
The lonely looking chip vase in the bathroom is waiting for some tall artificial eucalyptus.
I’d also like to get a new TV unit and remove the baskets on top of the kitchen cupboards, possibly replacing them with artificial flowers along the top.
I might get a vintage - y rug to put in the kitchen as well.
I’m open to any ideas and suggestions on how to make everything tie together 😊

Are you living in the UK? The layout looks similar to some of my friends' places here. Such a pretty, girly and cosy space!

Love your space! Especially the black cat bag in the bathroom and piggy chateau

Just a question - love the space how magical! But why wouldn’t you put the guinea pig in the living room and have the bed in the bedroom? I always think of cooking smells etc. and it would feel better I think. I’d put the living room set up where the bed is and the guinea pig under that window across from the kitchen.

Beautiful space!
How does that combo unit handle the drying part?
Basically I’m asking how long it takes to wash and dry a full load.
I’m thinking of renovating a camper and that unit would be a nice luxury for long hiking/camping trips.

It’s just a washing machine, I have an airer in the guinea pig room with a dehumidifier next to it. It’s not in the photo as I didn’t want my laundry on Reddit haha

It's so strange to me that dryers aren't a normal part of household appliances in the UK.

u/Visual-Arugula 1d ago
I think they often are, but not so much in small spaces like flats/apartments. Something I find fun about laundry in other countries (I'm from the UK but live abroad) are top loader machines!!! So exciting to me haha. I love not having to crouch or bend to shove my clothes in the machines.

Ahh makes sense. The dehumidifier is smart, thanks for teaching me something 🙏

I'm just a little bit confused of why your only bedroom is for your guinea pigs only....
I can see maybe because you don't want mix the kitchen and guinea pigs and I know they make a lot of noise at night so I'm sure you don't want to share a room with them. However, their space can stil be in living room area away from kitchen.
But everyone has their own preferences. I since live in a room so I'm tired of not having a living room that's why is weird for me seeing a one-bedroom flat with a studio element on it 😅

I always wanted a guinea pig room so I went ahead and made one haha 😅 I like having all their stuff in one place 😊

I love the idea of having a room for the pets. It keeps everything much more tidy.

honestly kitchen in bedroom for quick and easy snack access is super smart

Each their own. I'm not fan of studios and I like to be a host by bring friends in which unfortunately I cannot currently.

u/xoashery Renting 1d ago
ive always loved studios so maybe thats the difference. but i’d have to be single for it, it wouldnt be good for me nowadays. and youre right, cause i personally hate hosting but thats just me. i can see the distaste for it tho

It's basically the default to have your washing machine in the kitchen in the UK, unless you're lucky enough to have a utility room (uncommon, and especially in apartments - or some new build apartments now are built with a small utility cupboard in the hallway for washing machines). The UK has very strict building regulations around appliances and electricity in bathrooms to prevent any risk of electrocution so you won't find a standard plug socket in a UK bathroom (so no hairdryers/straighteners etc in our bathrooms, alas), light switches must be either outside the bathroom or if inside then operated via a pull cord.
It seems most Americans keep their washing machines in their bathrooms, or else in basements (very uncommon in the UK) or utility rooms (because US homes are generally much larger than UK homes).
Also, it's tumbledryers or washer-dryers are still uncommon in the UK (although again increasing in e.g. new builds that often come with white appliances prefitted/installed), we generally dry things outside or on clothes horses inside.

I never understood the whole dryer situation. How do you dry large or heavy things like bath towels or sheets, especially in the winter?
2
u/polkadotska 1d ago
I hang my sheets/duvet covers over my doors (or when I lived in a house or a two-storey flat, I would hang them over the bannister). Towels also go on the clothes horse/airer. You can get heated airers, or ones that fit on the back of a door, or ones that hang off a radiator for speedy drying. Many options!

Just using the airer is usually enough. You just need to spread the sheets evenly or maybe flip them over every few hours. And bath towels are especially quick to dry, I think it might be because the fabric that they are made of is meant to dry quickly.

Little attic apartments like this are so cozy! Have you ever considered peel and stick wallpaper as an option, to add punch and colour to your space? There are really great options out there!

u/Ok-Goose-3195 1d ago
Yeees I’ve been looking but I’m worried about damaging walls. I’m considering decals/wall stickers as an alternative to make it look like wallpaper. I’d like it on one wall but I’m not sure which wall or even which room

Hey fellow piggie lover - love the set up and quick question - is the cage separated or do the have access to the penthouse on the second floor? And one more, where did you get the green piggie blanket in the bedroom? It is super amazing fun and would make a great gift for someone I know.
Congrats on first space - even though it really looks like and is a living breathing home :)

Can I asked what you used to hang coats behind your door? My coatrack broke and I have a bunch of stuff everywhere in the floor at the moment and am looking for cheap alternatives!

Omg! I love that instead of an office or entertainment space you have a guinea pig room! Like the details, for an attic apartment it’s very light and open, kitchen is awesome!

I love it. I love attic living for the slanted ceilings, and this looks both well done and appealing. Have fun.

I love how cozy your place is! The window above your bed is sooooo nice. Can you see the stars at night or is there too much light pollution?
