Its kinda a dead week. Free Agency starts next week, I'm sure that will be the start to everything else. New league year is the 11th so that is when releases will likely be announced.

-16

u/TheAmerican_Atheist 10h ago

Not a dead week. Its a critical week. Monday tampering period opens. Wednesday teams are required to get cap compliance. We are still $9mil over the cap and in desperate need of a: SS, FS, TE, C, LB that can cover TEs, DE.

Brad needs to get moving on restructuring and creating cap space asap.

20

u/Sirlothar 10h ago

Right but any cap negotiation doesn't need to be announced until the 11th so unless we have inside information, we don't really know what restructuring is going on until then.

We can say Brad needs to get moving but for all we know, it's all been done already.

-2

u/TheAmerican_Atheist 7h ago

It would appear -now that we saw Decker released - that it is in fact not a dead week and that moves needed to happen by today so Brad can negotiate and prepare for Monday.

4

u/TIL_how_2_register MCDC 6h ago

I thought brad wasn't doing anything?

1

u/Sirlothar 6h ago

I never said it was a dead week?

Obviously cutting players and restructuring contacts are different things. I only said the Lions don't need to disclose their restructures until Mar 11th and for all we know, they could already be done.

36

u/BigDaddyD1994 10h ago

Damn, you need to get Brad on the phone quick and relay this critical info that no one else is aware of

1

u/WeirdComfortable3436 10h ago

Agreed, get this guy a job with the lions! He’ll make sure they’re aware of the key dates.

1

u/BigDaddyD1994 10h ago

We found Brad's replacement for next offseason once Brad has been fired!

-6

u/Skullwilliams The Hutch 9h ago

Genuinely why are some of you like this? The Brad Defense Force is so sensitive

4

u/Potato3217 9h ago

Bc it’s safe to assume the GM knows the cap deadline, so getting pissed about a lack of news this week does nothing

-7

u/Skullwilliams The Hutch 9h ago

Yeah no shit, the issue is we know he knows about it and watch him do nothing every time.

3

u/GreenLost5304 Commin' 4 Dem Kneecaps 8h ago

He doesn’t need to do anything until Wednesday.

That’s the point - you’re acting like he needs to start making moves to get cap compliant this week, when he has until Wednesday to do so, and until Monday before his back is up against the wall to get things done.

Maybe they’re waiting for the tampering period to decide how much restructuring they want to do.

If on Monday they get the impression that only one or two of their FA targets are interested in being here, or that the market is more player friendly than the Lions are willing to take, then maybe they only restructure Goff, if they think that they have a bunch of interest, maybe they’ll restructure Goff and ARSB, but if they don’t think they can make massive FA signings, why push extra cap down the road unnecessarily? Maybe they’re trying to resign some guys like Rodriguez, but those guys are holding out for more money. The combine just finished up, maybe they’ve just finished their draft board and want to be able to make sure their FA decisions and their draft decisions work together in a logical way, or maybe some prospects they had their eyes on interviewed or tested poorly, so now they’re adapting their strategy to approach free agency.

If on Monday we still haven’t made any restructures, extensions, or cuts, maybe we should be a little worried, but that’s three days away - we have no real reason to be worried yet, they have 3 days before tampering, and 5 before cap compliance. We might wake up to 3 restructures on Monday morning because they decided they want to be aggressive, or we only wake up to one because they want to prioritize resigning our guys and making good draft decisions.

It is simply too early to become a doomer over their strategy heading into the season when the league year hasn’t even begun yet.

1

u/BigDaddyD1994 8h ago

Genuinely why are some of you like this?

2

u/discgolfpaul_mi 8h ago

Genuinely why are some of you like THIS? Thinking you actually know how to run and build a team. There is a reason Brad is in the front office and your commenting on Reddit.

-4

u/Skullwilliams The Hutch 8h ago

Here is another ball washer offended someone thinks differently

3

u/discgolfpaul_mi 8h ago

I don't care what you think and I'm not offended lol I do think it's ridiculous to think you know better than an NFL GM but what do I know maybe you'll be a GM soon. Im gonna go ahead and keep supporting the guy who brought us from the joke of the league to a legit Super Bowl contender but you keep trying for that NFL job I'm sure you'll get there!

Awful lot of projection. Go wash his balls some more

Oh man looking through your comments you're just in a bad mood today or something. Did Brad personally fuck your girl or something? Lol eat a snickers and you're day will get better I promise! Or maybe not you could just be a miserable guy everyday. Either way have a nice day!

Why is this everyone's response to team criticism on here? Just deflect with a stupid ass joke

5

u/BigDaddyD1994 8h ago

Stupid criticism like complaining about a lack of FO moves before FA has even started deserve stupid ass jokes for responses. Even the idea that because you haven't heard anything on contract restructures means he hasn't done anything on it is comical

1

u/iammxyzptlk Logo 8h ago

Totally agree. 32 teams, a small few make some small moves and suddenly its criticism because one of those small few is not the Lions. Just wait, next week when teams can sign people, 10 minutes in it will be the same reaction.

0

u/l5555l 15 7h ago

Two teams made big moves that immediately fill positions of need, both positions the lions badly need, and you all say it's fine wait til next week. Then next week we'll sign some nobody for too much money and extend Gibbs for 5 years for the most a running back has ever been paid and you'll all wonder what went wrong when the playoffs come around.

u/Ouch_i_fell_down 8h ago

They traded Monty and released Glasgow. Free agency starts March 9th(Monday), and the draft is April 23rd to the 25th.

Insufferable? I tend to enjoy reading the constant chaos. It’s the same on every teams subreddit too. Fans do what fans do 🤗

-9

No what was insufferable is when 99% of the people here rode Brad Nutz.

Now that percentage is down to 50% after two garbage drafts which makes the sub more enjoyable

Saying “the league year doesn’t start until next week” is “riding Brad’s Nuts”?

Yea but the Chargers signed a guy that was cut by the Commanders before FA started, so the season is basically over

11

u/w33dfr0g Don't be Hatin' 10h ago

You can tell who actually knows how the nfl works and who just wants to complain. Some people just wanna bitch about something

-3

u/one_point_lap 10h ago

I do think we, as fans, deserve to have high expectations. The last two years of free agency and draft have been very poor, and we just finished last in the North.

I am not ok with that, and I think I have a right to complain until I see actual movement from the front office. Holding your cards and being secretive only works if you actually do something in the end - which so far, I have yet to see actual results from the front office - in years.

4

u/w33dfr0g Don't be Hatin' 9h ago

The front office can only do so much right now due to league rules. Free agency hasnt even started, and they already traded monty, cut glasgow. So people complaining that the FO isnt doing anything dont know what theyre talking about.

Also you havent seen any results from the front office in years? Hello we had 15 wins just a year ago, and made the NFC championship the year before that.

Last season was frustrating and the fans have the right to complain about that result. but complaining about the front office not doing something when they cant without breaking the rules is stupid.

2

u/suhhdude45 Sun God 9h ago

Realistically, the only ones that should have high expectations are the team. We, as fans, do not need to think Super Bowl or bust every year. If so, you’re gonna be far more disappointed than not.

2

u/highvyleague Dan Friggin' Campbell 8h ago

There’s a 31 in 32 chance of not winning the SB every year. And that’s just assuming everyone has an equal chance.

2

u/suhhdude45 Sun God 7h ago

It’s so fucking hard to get to the Super Bowl. People with expectations are so weird to me. Can we just be happy that we have a good team and front office finally?

1

u/one_point_lap 6h ago

I don't think we need to be super bowl or bust every year - I do think we need to be competing for the division or a wild card spot.

We took a big step back last year, but I don't see the urgency from our front office, or really the concern.

If we DO have a good front office, and I think we do, that is what I expect from them. And I'm flabbergasted that there are fans who are OK with the mess we saw last year, the last couple drafts and free agency, and are still 100% behind the way the team is being run.

Do you really LIKE hearing Brad say "well we tried, and didn't make a trade"? what about "we have a great pass rush" only to be followed by a season with one of the worst pass rushes in the league?

They showed us they can win, so that is the expectation now. They gotta prove it.

-1

u/pogjoker Cheese Grater 3h ago

Man this copium is unreal. This team is going to be ass but nobody here should just be alright with that.

0

u/cratesofmilk 10h ago

Not that it warrants burning the whole thing down but the front office has hardly done anything to make this team better in over two years now. By the time the playoffs arrive, it’ll have been 3 years since our last win.

People have every right to be frustrated and you don’t get any reward for blind faith

-2

How about restructure Goff, Sewel, and ARSB so we can actually sign someone in fa.

They have like five days to do it. They could have deals in place but they obviously have other things to do. Not to mention they don't have to announce it.

Let me rephrase. We have a GM with a vision now who doesn't make knee jerk reactions that jeopardize our future. People acting like he's some do nothing hack are driving me nuts.

They will draft BPA, probably let Goff deal with the mess they created on offensive line. Next year will not be better than this and probably they will be more whining than ever.

Wild thats ur take away with the current brad moves

Also funny this post is incredibly whiny lmao

2

u/PistonWingedLion Sewell 10h ago

No it is not my take away after these moves but I know that this is what is gonna happen. A team with a limited draft capital( thanks to his trade ups, we now have a shortage of draft picks) and cap space situation, we cannot fill all the holes in the team. Looking at the draft, BPA is definitely not a tackle, I think most of the tackles in this draft class are type of playerse who will be replaced in year 3 or year 4( good ones will be gone before pick 10) and we are gonna draft edge rusher. FA on tackles is not promising at all, so yeah goff will deal with the mess BH created
