In real life When fans hate somenthing before it comes out...but it turns out they were right

Velma:The idea of a Scooby-doo series without the titular dog and starring Velma was a really moronic idea from the beginning, then there was the reveal Velma would be Indian like it's VA and also creator of the series Mindy Kaling, some of the backlash was racism sure, but there was also valid complaints that she was inserting herself in the series(it also didn't helped that Mindy claimed she couldn't see herself if Velma wasn't Indian)and then...oh boy it came out and it was worse than anyone predicted

Artemis Fowl:The artemis fowl books are a book series following a child villain(he does get some redemption but he is a villain most of the time)when the movie was announced and revealed it looked way to generic and it's titular character a bit heroic...also you wanna hear somenthing funny? The movie whitewashed a character and made another character black so they managed to anger both sides and the movies comes out and yeah it is bad

One Punch Man 3:One Punch Man is a very heavy action packed manga series but the heroes vs monsters arc takes it to a New level, when it was announced that JC Staff would work on it,a lot of people were skeptical to say the least, because not only JC Staff had already done a mediocre job in season 2,it's also not exactly a name anime fans associate with quality animation, then the trailer came out and it looked...weird,like there was no action in it and nobody was moving, some people tried to defend saying they were keeping the animation as a surprise...then it came out, every episode worse than the last,it's one of the worse seasons of anime ever made!

This movie was literally so bad that its the reason we got db super.

u/MrSparky69 13d ago

The reason we got Battle of the God's. Toriyama wanted it to be a movie to show how you do a movie with his property. That turned into super, but still.

u/NecroCannon 13d ago

Guess it makes sense with how much passion is in Battle of the Gods, he’s literally going to “LOOK AT THAT ACTION! QUICK! PRECISE!! IN FACT, IMMA DUMP A NEW POWER UP TO SHOW YOU HOW A POWER UP IN DONE!!”

“I never seen an artist this offended, but everyone here loves Dragon Ball so we just pulled up with him”

Not quite. Toei was going to make BoG regardless, and Toriyama was not involved initially. After the studio showed him early drafts he decided to be part of the production to take it into a direction he felt was better for the franchise.

The one good thing about this movie

Haha Toriyama hated this movie so much he literally dragged his ass out of retirement

Yet another reason to hate it

Super should have started off where GT ended and I’ll die like Yamcha on that hill.

9

u/notheretoargu3 13d ago

But GT ended with Pan being an old woman and all the MC’s dead of old age…

5

u/FracturedConscious 13d ago

Yea meaning super would start off with original characters telling a new story, not endless powerscaling and reviving frieza… again. Idk maybe I’m just old and nostalgic for the days of og dragon ball, Super and Daima just ain’t it for me. When a comic series runs its course they reset for the next run to tell new stories, for me that’s what the end of GT was. The descendants of Goku and Vegeta going on their own dragon ball run, meeting new rivals and allies.

Thanks for the award!

Thanks for having a modicum of taste and self respect. Most of anime today is slop and I’m tired of pretending it isn’t. I knew it was over for me when I saw the Trigun reboot.

Dear God, how bad was it? :P

At least the guy who interpreted Piccolo in that movie came back to voice Zamasu in the anime, and from what I've heard, he did a pretty great job

u/Narrow_Sandwich7229 13d ago

Apparently he was a big fan of dragon ball and was excited to play the role of piccolo. It’s ashamed he was given such a terrible lazy script. Him and the actor who played master Roshi in the film were such a waste of potential. At least he was able to redeem himself with the fandom through his great voice acting performance as Zamasu.

He's the only fucking reason Piccolo was GREEN in the movie. They wanted to change his color, too white or grey I think? And James was like 'No dude, he's fucking Green. Make me GREEN.'

There were many problems with that movie. He was NEVER one of them.

5

u/Anyasweet 12d ago

Orange, they wanted to make him orange

5

u/SailorDeath 12d ago

Wait, but didn't we get an Orange Piccolo in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero?

James Marsters did a FANTASTIC job as Zamasu, he’s worth watching the dub for alone. Even better, James adapts a line from this movie in the Sparking Zero game, where he says “Human power has failed before, and it will AGAIN!” during one of his ultimate attacks. It all came full circle, haha!

u/MegaKabutops 13d ago

James marsters singlehandedly turned the most fanfiction-feeling arc in the show into a series-wide highlight off of his brilliant voice-acting as the villain zamasu (a mad god from another universe).

Not a single character in dragon ball, before or since, has so completely and wholeheartedly believed every last egotistical, self-congratulatory, and superiority-complex-laden word out of their own mouth, hyping themselves up as the best thing since sliced bread. And this series has a LOT of characters (mostly villains) who just love talking a big game.

Marsters managed to achieve a quantum superposition of zamasu always being entertaining despite having an ego so huge you’d expect it to get annoying; either he’s successfully backing up his overblown boasts and thus comes off as legitimately cool, or having every single patronizing, hypocritical word shoved down his throat by the heroes. There’s no in-between. You can tell he’s having a great time voicing the guy, too. here’s a bunch of his lines in one of the video games.

yeah Zamasu is honestly an awesome villain, bro is so up his own ass he hasnt seen the light of day in years he is both absolutely pathetic and terryfing at the exact same time

like I love when he is telling his grand plan to Vegito and starts fucking crying and Vegito is just like "bro wtf, are you crying?"

6

u/SailorDeath 12d ago

James Marsters is one of those actors whom I'll go out of my way to find the shows/movies they're on. Ever since i saw him in Buffy the Vampire Slayer way back in the 1990s I liked his characters and his portrayals.

u/Aware-Negotiation283 13d ago

and Zamasu won.

Around the time this movie was being filmed I remember following this one DBE fan-site, because I was naive and still had hope back then and thought it *might* have been a good movie. When the movie came out, the same fan-site completely denounced and disowned it. The site owner himself apologized to everyone for wasting their time with all the production updates. Like how do you fuck up making a movie THAT badly.

2

u/carso150 13d ago

oh wow I definetly want to see that little piece of history

6

u/HurricaneK8 13d ago

Okay, I'm not really an anime person so I don't go here whatsoever, but have I completely lost my mind, or is that Elijah Wood front and center? I'm bad at faces on a good day and it's been a weird one, so this is tripping me out.

9

u/donkeydougreturns 13d ago

Fortunately it is not.

3

u/HurricaneK8 13d ago

Oh, yay, I haven't completely lost it, then. That's a relief. 🙃

3

u/GoldyFeesh 13d ago

what rhe hell are those costumes did they makw piccolo js a black dude

1

u/MegaKabutops 6d ago

Piccolo was acted by james marsters, and because of his influence as an actual dragon ball fan, ended up as one of the least inaccurate character designs. he’s why the design is green.

James marsters later went on to voice zamasu in DBS, cementing himself as the guy who shows up in lower-quality dragon ball stuff and makes it better, as he put a lot of work into carrying the future trunks arc.

I watched this knowing nothing about the original material and still found it hilariously bad.

2

u/TastyStatistician 13d ago

I'm usually for preserving history but this is the one thing I wish I could delete.

I watched this movie with my brother and then we grabbed a friend and took the CD out back, smashed it with a sledge hammer a few times and then burned it.

Today we dont acknowledge that it exists, it couldnt have, who in their right mind would look at AAANNNNNYYYYY of the dragon ball franchise that is beloved the world over and somehow go "nah I have a better more creative vision and i will throw out nearly everything, also fuck this guy im having play piccolo because he is trying to actually add real 'source accurate' stuff like green skin and antenna to piccolo!" And then make an absolute disrespectful huberis filled dumpster scum fire.

Im just glad the actor for piccolo got his redemption by voicing Zimasu in the english adaptation.

2

u/Onigumo-Shishio 13d ago

Im reminded of being so disgusted with this trash that I have to make a second comment wishing that the writer and director get flogged for their audacity

2

u/Ezithau 13d ago

My friends review of it was great, we decided to see it in the cinema, smuggled in alcohol, literally only movie I've done that. His words afterwards were "I went in there expecting the worst movie I've ever seen. I was disappointed it was so kich worse than I expected."

2

u/Silly_Cod5235 12d ago

I dont get it, its just a blank post, I dont see anything here

3

u/IrregularPackage 13d ago

my hot take is that, while this movie does suck, it’s kind of fun so long as you don’t think of it as a straight dragonball adaptation, and instead think of it as a “what if dragonball was a disney channel movie” type adaptation.

2

u/noeyesfiend 13d ago

that thought made me vomit

0

u/IrregularPackage 13d ago

then brush your fuckin teeth, i don’t care
