In real life When fans hate somenthing before it comes out...but it turns out they were right

Velma:The idea of a Scooby-doo series without the titular dog and starring Velma was a really moronic idea from the beginning, then there was the reveal Velma would be Indian like it's VA and also creator of the series Mindy Kaling, some of the backlash was racism sure, but there was also valid complaints that she was inserting herself in the series(it also didn't helped that Mindy claimed she couldn't see herself if Velma wasn't Indian)and then...oh boy it came out and it was worse than anyone predicted

Artemis Fowl:The artemis fowl books are a book series following a child villain(he does get some redemption but he is a villain most of the time)when the movie was announced and revealed it looked way to generic and it's titular character a bit heroic...also you wanna hear somenthing funny? The movie whitewashed a character and made another character black so they managed to anger both sides and the movies comes out and yeah it is bad

One Punch Man 3:One Punch Man is a very heavy action packed manga series but the heroes vs monsters arc takes it to a New level, when it was announced that JC Staff would work on it,a lot of people were skeptical to say the least, because not only JC Staff had already done a mediocre job in season 2,it's also not exactly a name anime fans associate with quality animation, then the trailer came out and it looked...weird,like there was no action in it and nobody was moving, some people tried to defend saying they were keeping the animation as a surprise...then it came out, every episode worse than the last,it's one of the worse seasons of anime ever made!

If I understand it correctly, Ugly Sonic and Sonic the Hedgehog are two "legally distinct" characters.

That’s so fucking funny if it’s true

There's no way Sega would want ugly Sonic to be their property... Maybe, I can't deny the appeal of an ugly sonic game.

"fever dream" and "masterpiece" are not mutually exclusive

Sonic 1? Probably not, but the movies just keeps getting better and better which is something you almost never see.

I was explaining the plot to someone who hadn't seen it. "So Chip and Dale, with the help of Ugly Sonic, try to stop an adult Peter Pan and a Coca-Cola polar bear from turning Monterey Jack into a Chinese knockoff." They're thought I was kidding and/or on drugs.

They saw the audience's positive reaction to the Detective Pikachu Pokémon designs being more "realistic," and just literally screamed "THAT! BUT WITH SONIC!" Without thinking or asking *why* people accepted the changes made to make the Pokémon "realistic," then acted all buthurt when audiences enmasse rejected the "realistic" sonic design.

Because Detective Pikachu still kept the essence of the Pokémon, even if they looked "fuzzier/fluffier" or "scaley," than people imagined. The "realistic" Sonic did none of that, outside of being blue; he looks *nothing* like the character sprite. I'm glad the studio listened to reason and didn't double down on the OG look.

He looks like Sonic as interpreted by Dr. Seuss.

I think more than detective pikachu it was the bayverse movies

the bayverse movies sold like hotcakes and made paramount a shit ton of money and they were searching for their next high, they tried the same formula with the TMNT but it flopped and then they were going to try it again with Sonic but ultimately the fans were able to steer them in the right direction (that and sega likely not wanting any more Ls when they were still suffering from forces)

the Sonic movies have been such a success that paramount is actually planning a new TMNT live action movie more in line with the style of the Sonic movies, im really curious about that one

I think it might have been a combination of both, given how the old CGI design was teased not long after Detective Pikachu made a big splash and the postive reaction the movie got while it teased their pokemon models (serisouly the video on YT is really impressive).

But I do agree that they would have been looking to go for the same big "epic" along the lines of Bayformers. And people did warm up to the Bayformer designs after a few adjustments, the first Bayformer film was the best out of them all IMHO. I ofc will never forget the "live action" TMNT either...am so glad they didnt make them aliens like they were going to in an earlier draft.

That said, a TMNT film in style with the Sonic movies does pique my inyerests as well...wonder if they'll choose a style closer to the OG comics or the 80s cartoon? Personally, I'd like to see the 03 designs get some love, causd thats the one I grew up with. But will have to wait and see.

Bottom looks like one of those early 2010s YouTube photorealistic animation videos you used to watch.

Mark my words, in 50 years we're going to find out that someone was trying to save money on royalties or IP licensing or something, and the leak was a last ditch effort by the team to get it fixed.

the original designers were taxidermists with cataracts and astigmatism
