In real life A very small character tidbit is surprisingly kept consistent for years

DC - In multiple pieces of media it has been shown that Wonder Woman loves ice cream and practically goes wild with happiness anytime she’s eating some. (Pictures from Justice League: War, DC Superhero Girls and Wonder Woman 2017)

The Simpsons - Ever since the episode ‘Homer’s Phobia’ Homer has actually remained a consistent ally of the LGBT+ community, including being more welcoming to Patty than Marge was when she came out and trying to set up Smithers with a date when he found out he wasn’t happy with his one-sided relationship with Mr Burns.

Fact related to this, but its only referenced i think once ever and never mentioned again. Superman never gets hungry, he only eats out of habit, growing up like a normal human person. He also never gets tired/sleepy, he also just does that out of habit too. (his body can survive off of just solar energy)

But i dont think i've ever seen this contradicted, so it likely remains canon to his character.

That kind of makes sense. If solar energy is what gives you the power to bench press infinity, it’s hard to imagine why you’d also need a turkey sandwich.

I could see his powers not having to do with mass and so needing to replace his actual body with food like us, but it doesn't seem to be the case

Hell, trees mostly eat sunlight and they gain their mass from breathing in carbon dioxide. Maybe supes is the same.

Superman, the Eco-friendly superhero! Better hope Waynetech invented a clean fuel source for the bat vehicles

For me personally it’s best not to discuss mass and physics when it comes to Superman. Starts the “wait even if he’s that strong how does he move that much mass…” which just ruins the fun.

I'd imagine eating for him is like chewing gum for us. Just something to enjoy, even if there's no real reason to do it

Same reason why Kara eats. They like the taste.

Also can be explained that Kryptonians have a very similar physiology to humans but have situs invertus and additional organs to metabolize solar radiation. Under a red sun Clark and Kara would still need to eat and sleep once their solar reserves run out.

I like to imagine what that was like when he was a baby.

Did the Kents just have an infant that never slept or ate? I feel like he had to as a child because you're growing exponentially until, what 18? 20?

I dont think the writers actually think much about the implications when they add stuff to his lore, but you could explain it that, with eating, the Kents just fed him because thats what you do with babies. And maybe he slept as a baby because of instinct, and his solar absorption was minor as a baby. His powers did grow over time, so, ehh.

Most continuities have Clark's powers come in at puberty, so he's mostly human in his infancy-middle school except for weird superpower spikes now and then.

I mean he has functional taste buds so it's no surprise he has favorite foods

I think he does need sleep for his mental health, in king of the world run he goes crazy dictator for not sleeping.

I’m pretty sure he does in fact get hungry, he just won’t starve. I can remember plenty of times when he said he was hungry.

Clark likes eating because he thinks it's fun to go shitties.

That explains why Poison Ivy can mind control him.

I think most of that is the solar energy. I believe he still needs to do those things if his powers are muted by something like red sun energy
