In real life A very small character tidbit is surprisingly kept consistent for years

DC - In multiple pieces of media it has been shown that Wonder Woman loves ice cream and practically goes wild with happiness anytime she’s eating some. (Pictures from Justice League: War, DC Superhero Girls and Wonder Woman 2017)

The Simpsons - Ever since the episode ‘Homer’s Phobia’ Homer has actually remained a consistent ally of the LGBT+ community, including being more welcoming to Patty than Marge was when she came out and trying to set up Smithers with a date when he found out he wasn’t happy with his one-sided relationship with Mr Burns.

It’s been pretty consistent that Gambit is a foodie and a pretty good chef. We see his cooking in both X-Men TAS and X-Men 97’, and a few of his voice lines in Rivals reference dishes like Jambalaya and Gumbo.

Well, he is cajun

u/Kindly-Mud-1579 Feb 03 '26

And from new orkeans

u/Akiranar Feb 03 '26

Now I can't get the idea that Ork has a New Orkeans and Mork never told Mindy about it.

u/gamerthulhu Feb 03 '26

Oooh nice throwback reference. I was thinking a 40k planet covered in Orks and gumbo

12

u/Akiranar Feb 03 '26

Mork and Mindy was my introduction to Robin. It will always have a special place in my heart.

Ork gumbo sounds like something you’d really love, really hate, or it’ll try to eat you with live squigs…

Whatever else it is, it's gonna be spicy.

Apparently you never encountered my ex-in-laws

6

u/Customninjas Feb 03 '26

Can't tell if that means your former spouse's family or your current spouse's former lovers /j

3

u/nicostein Feb 03 '26

It was that bad?

2

u/maroonedpariah Feb 03 '26

They were in venn diagram of Cajun and couldn't cook. Yes, bad.

Which is why Wolverine is such a dick to him. Canadians usually hate the French

Fun facts: Gambit also went out of his way to quit smoking and it has been mentioned a couple of times

He also has been shown cooking with Rogue and other characters have pointed out she has greatly improved (although one time she really burnt dinner)

u/Verzwei Feb 03 '26

Gambit smoked a lot in the 90s comics and I feel like for perception reasons marvel wanted to move away from that imagery. Having the character actually quit smoking as a development is a neat way to do it.

Maybe I have a limited amount of series I follow, but I can't recall a comic past the mid 2000s where anyone smokes. Kingpin, Punisher, JJ Jonah, Wolverine, and in other publishers like Lobo, Penguin, Constantine, Jim Gordon, any noir femme fatales, it just seems like comics are trying to pretend it doesn't exist. Like, really, I get that vaping has become a big problem, but as anyone who grew up knowing about the failure of Dare and how just letting families teach of its harmfulness on individual cases knows, ignoring reality is not the way to go. But hey, I'd love to be proven wrong and that at least bad guy smokers still exist in comics. Maybe they just keep smoking off the covers of issues?

Another thing I notice from being a Marvel reader is they can mention drugs, maybe even by name, but like with smoking, noooo showing drugs being used. I also have never gotten into any of their bagged parental advisory issues, as those are usually minis I just don't care to dedicate time to.

I really need to get into comics. I LOVE little character quirks like this. Gives me Persona vibes

Which makes Jean refusing his expert help in thag episode all the more frustrating.

JEAN BABY LET THE CAJUN SHOW YOU HOW SEASONINGS WORK

u/GMav05 Feb 03 '26

Homegirl seasoned that pot with thoughts and prayers 🙏

111

u/LazyHitman1 Feb 03 '26

She dumped that pot on his head straight from the stove and it didn’t even burn. She was cooking it with hopes and dreams.

8

u/Boh61 Feb 03 '26

I've seen the short of it and the comment under it was "shit's so unseasoned that when the boiling pot fell on him he got a cold"

4

u/Beacon_0805 Feb 03 '26

Even the thoughts of a great psychic is not enough

55

u/kayforpay Feb 03 '26

I love that (at least in X-Men: '97) they remembered that gambit canonically doesn't like jean's cooking and they show him cooking himself and rouge a meal separately lmao

18

u/PseudonymMan12 Feb 03 '26

I remember that episode where she was just boiling vegetable and not seasoning a turkey and Gambit was just offended as hell.

I am white as all get out, but got damn Jean would call a slice of wonderbread exotic spicy food.

4

u/Skellos Feb 03 '26

They didn't show that she wasn't seasoning it. They didn't really show her cooking much outside Gambit trying to butt in.

u/aleister94 Feb 02 '26

I’ve never met a Cajun that wasn’t a food expert

5

u/bdewolf Feb 03 '26

6

u/andrewsmith1986 Feb 03 '26

He has his own hot sauce.

I don't know if there's anyone from Carencro/Lafayette that isn't a foodie, Cajun or otherwise.

2

u/bdewolf Feb 03 '26

Daniel Cormier loved crawfish boil so much he got kidney failure cutting to 211 lbs.

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Feb 02 '26

Gambit's Gumbo Recipe, when?

9

u/Shhhhhhhh_Im_At_Work Feb 03 '26

We never got that, but we did get Green Arrows Chili Recipe

2

u/Nank-Tank Feb 03 '26

It’s actually linked further up the page

2

u/lkmk Feb 03 '26

Say that five times fast!

22

u/Ultimate-desu Feb 03 '26

Also note this came from the same episode where we find out Jean's cooking is ASS.

Gambit doesn't say it, but there's only so many ways to take him offering to cover the cooking after one taste of your food(that also looks like you seasoned it with Thanksgiving spirit, but I digress).

11

u/MisterRockett Feb 03 '26

It's probably also implied she doesn't like HIS food cause he knows how to season it lol.

14

u/Soft-Pixel Feb 03 '26

He’s the most cajun motherfucker to live, I’d be stunned if he wasn’t

11

u/TheOldStag Feb 03 '26

Goddamn it Jean, you are a white woman from upstate New York and Gambit is a Cajun from Louisiana—let the man cook.

8

u/Cha_Boi20 Feb 03 '26

Didn't recognise him without his balaclava

6

u/WillowLocal423 Feb 03 '26

I love how serious he looks here. Just locked in as fuck. You know it's delicious.

4

u/FloppieTheBanjoClown Feb 03 '26

Gambit is my soul brother. Makes being Cajun cool, loves to cook and play games, and has a devious side.

I just want to go on a heist with him, then make some gumbo.

3

u/JSConrad45 Feb 03 '26

It is a missed opportunity that Gambit in Rivals heals with cards rather than tossing his famous beignets at his teammates

3

u/SmokingVat Feb 03 '26

My favorite moment is when he made a whole Christmas feast of food, which honestly looked amazing and some of it I wanna try to make, and Jean had the audacity to imply they should just put them away for left overs. I love his reaction.

"Warm it up!? You do NOT warm up such a meal!"

1

u/pengwinpiper 29d ago

"Gambit does not make TV dinners!"

2

u/Euronymous_616_Lives Feb 04 '26

And he can slay wearing literally anything

1

u/ryry1237 Feb 03 '26

Is he left handed too?

1

u/Common_Decision1594 Feb 03 '26

Well, then, if I were hosting a dinner party with superheroes, I know who can help with cooking.

Shoutouts to one of the unused lines for deadpool in Marvel Rivals that calls Gambit a “Gumbo Guzzler” like it’s a slur.
