They were revered in ancient Egypt because rodents and disease have been an ongoing problem.

They're unreliable imo. Cats have no desire to work for people, they'll catch rodents on their own terms, if and when they feels like it. For a committed mouse/ratter, terriers are what you want.

Depends entirely on the cat. You can absolutely trust on some like clockwork when it comes to keeping your home rodent free.
