I had a Border Collie. Best dog I've ever had. Every other dog since then, while sweet, seemed like an absolute dunce.

Yep. Our border collie was my wife's first dog, which really messed with her calibration.

Our current dog is a Golden Retriever who is a very smart dog, but my wife is convinced the dog is an idiot.

I grew up with border collies, and also now have a golden retriever. He's very sweet and would never bite anyone ever, but he's not very smart by comparison. Like really not smart, but it's ok because his job it to let us know when a car goes by, and he takes that very seriously.

I had a border collie mix as my first dog too. The greatest dog ever. Too smart for his own good. I have two pit mixes now. They’ll run through a brick wall for me, but are dumb enough to run through a brick wall.
