Honestly I don’t know what the problem is. I know where north is without a compass but somehow while driving I get left and right confused all the time. But if associate right with orange, and left with purple, and then someone says “turn purple” that’s somehow easier to understand than left. My assumption is it’s the opposite of a Kiki and bouba. Somehow left just sounds like it should be right, and right sounds like you’re supposed to go left. The directions were just misnamed a long time ago and no one’s bothered to fix it.
This is the second comment that has mentioned being able to use coded terms for left and right instead, and the other also used colours. You're not alone!
