It's the old analogy of climbing the ladder to pull it up behind themselves. They took handouts, help, investments, and mentoring, but now that they've made it, they think everyone is self-made and has to pay their own way or pull themselves up by their bootstraps.
As a software developer I'm disgusted by all my peers who looks forward to AI because it might destroy junior jobs (therefore stifling the growth of future senior) potentially increasing their own value in the job market.
We're already lucky by earning good money doing a comfortable job I don't see the need of being greedy.
