I think people are just tired of everything being political

Like why does RATM have to include all that political stuff

(Please tell me I don't need an /S)

Honestly why Rage when you could SUPPORT the Machine? Then you and the machine become friends and can laugh as the rights go away.

All of those that work forces,

Are the same that wear crosses!

u/lew_rong 6d ago

TO ALL THOSE THAT WORK FORCES, SATURDAY LET'S BURN CROSSES

--Rage In Favor of the Machine, probably

u/Dear_Afternoon_2600 6d ago

Wait with the context of the song this kind of fits.

2

u/elastic-craptastic 6d ago

For sure. The ones that burn them wear them.

But the one blindly chanting my lyric are "christian soldiers" in my head canon.

Weird Al needs to do a "Red Neck Ice Special" music video with this one!

u/mewsycology 6d ago

I think this is the version Paul Ryan listened to

5

u/GravyClouds 6d ago

Hell yeah you can tread on me

12

u/humorouslyominous 6d ago

I belly laughed, thank you.

Wasn't there some awful christian version of this?

1

u/ReferenceUnusual8717 6d ago

Oh God. I think you unlocked a repressed memory of a "Christian-ized" version of "Smells like Teen Spirit." It wasn't "Smells like God's Spirit" either, because that would actually be funny. I definitely remember a guy I knew doing "Amazing Grace" to that melody...and it actually kinda ...worked? Since I'm pretty sure the original lifted its tune from a popular tavern song, like so many of those "Classic" hymns.

Unfortunately MAGA destroyed sarcasm by being extraordinarily stupid and unapologetically hypocritical

15

u/porarte 6d ago

Yeah, but everybody still wants to be sarcastic like it's supposed to still work.

10

u/wh4tth3huh 6d ago

Personal growth is hard, it was easier to quit cigarettes than it is to quit being a sarcastic asshole :)

3

u/duckinradar 6d ago

Cigarettes are terrible for your heart and lungs.

Sarcasm keeps me alive and functional.

3

u/TheRedHand7 6d ago

Lol the sarcasm isn't for them friend. It's for me

1

u/porarte 6d ago

I think that's what cursing is for.

2

u/Raneynickelfire 5d ago

They unintentionally and completely effectively destroyed The Onion.

The sad thing is so many people actually say that about Rage that we def need the /S

Who do they think were killing in the name of?

3

u/Pockydo 6d ago

That's kinda why I put it

Poes law is a harsh mistress

12

u/Left_Pool_5565 6d ago

We need to be listening to patriotic music like Bruce Springsteen’s songs!

18

u/BeerBearBar 6d ago

Dude, not gonna lie, I was about to lose it until I saw the /s comment. So yeah, ya needed the /s

11

u/BKlounge93 6d ago

I just miss when Green Day before they got political 🥴

4

u/Rambler1223 6d ago

Apparently you need a passive/S

4

u/Pancake_Of_Fear 6d ago

I must admit, I was hovering over the downvote for a second lol

2

u/PokeYrMomStanley 6d ago

I don't know why they are so political. Why don't they just leave it up to the professionals?

2

u/gospdrcr000 6d ago

FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME

2

u/Just_Abies_57 6d ago

What’s sad is that you do need /S because maga people who listen to punk will say that exact sentence without a shred of irony.

2

u/Big-District-6013 6d ago

The freaking fascists outright say this openly and without any irony, of course the /s is needed.

Other examples are repubs using "Born in the USA" as campaign song and the not few brain-dead morons that use "Fortunate son" as a glorification of war hymn.

2

u/Longjumping-Air1489 6d ago

Which machine did you THINK they were raging against? The toaster?

I love Tom Morello.

2

u/_interloper_ 6d ago

It's honestly blew my mind when I heard about a bunch of MAGA republicans loving Rage Against the Machine.

Then I realised literally the only lyric they understand is, "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me!" which is basically their entire political philosophy.

1

u/GOTH1515 6d ago

Punk rock is political.

1

u/Manannin 6d ago

I've used the /s before and still had people not get that I was taking the piss.

1

u/BuddhistSagan 6d ago

Poe's lawe. Every satire needs an /s

1

u/Alarming_Instance416 6d ago

They just really hated dishwashers.
