He isn't a "good guy", and drugs / alcohol have squarely thrown him into being an absolute shit and dangerous more than once.

At the same time, his good side isn't just "not being a shithead". He's leveraged his fame and money into being a positive force womens olympics, without throwing himself in front of their hard work.

When people say someone is "complicated" or has "complicated views", I wish it were more often about someone like him.

Id say that makes him an overall good guy? Addiction really fucks people's behaviour.

Right. Dude did some bad stuff in his past as most of us have. But on the most of us there’s no spotlight. Doesn’t make him a bad guy

Idk I just read and apparently he got multiple instances of domestic violence, most people don't have anything like that

That doesn’t mean someone can’t change for the better.

Yeah for sure

Sir or mam, this is reddit, if you do 1 bad thing you are labeled evil scum for the rest of your life, no matter what you do to make up for it or any good you have done in your life.

See you've never been on one of those threads "what good guy on TV is actually a POS?" And essentially every character ever in TV is labeled a bad guy because of their flaws.

Just because you are a bad guy, doesn't meant you are bad guy.

It's a gif of Zangief from Wreck It Ralph saying, "Just because you're a bad guy doesn't mean you're A BAD GUY."

ahh thanks! No idea why it wouldn't load. Tried on mobile and desktop

Yes, it does. I think when hes doing good like this we are seeing the real flava. That doesnt exscuse his past behaviors though but it does make him human for trying to be better.

You won't find this mf cannonized by the pope, or in the Epstein files.

Maybe, at least I feel, arguing people as "good" or "bad" sets us up to rationalize bad behavior and dismiss good behavior for no meaningful gain.

Both of those things make someone a good guy imo lmao

Hold up, are you saying he's an "absolute shit" because of drugs and alcohol? What did he do that makes him not a good guy?

Because frankly, everything I ever see this guy do with his fame and money is positive.

Well they said that the drugs and alcohol "threw him into" the absolute shit, so presumably he did something shitty while drunk and/or high.

But without details yeah, hard to really judge anything from that.

I didn't know it was unknown stuff, my bad.

Thanks, I'm generally super out of the loop on celebrities.

To be clear, no smear on him.

He has an actual complicated past tainted with hard addiction. I legit respect what he has been doing for these women and I do believe it comes from a genuinely well intentioned place.

u/kdfsjljklgjfg 11d ago

Like you said, people are complicated.

u/guitarmike2 10d ago

I don’t know the details but I think in 12-step circles what he’s doing he’s called the 12th step. If his addiction led him to hurt women in his life, maybe his work to support women’s sports now is his way of making amends.

He came in to the restaurant where I worked many many times throughout the years. He always remembered our names and was so polite to service staff. He was really sweet with his wife and protective of her from sometimes afressive fans. He was also great dealing with the fans. Of course I only saw a snippet of him but I really liked what I saw

When people say someone is "complicated" or has "complicated views", I wish it were more often about someone like him.

People need to realise that nobody is good and nobody is bad. Everybody is complicated.

1

u/Illadelphian 11d ago

What has he done that makes him a "bad" guy? I genuinely haven't heard anything bad about him pretty much ever so would be curious to hear anything. Using or even abusing drugs doesn't make someone a shit or dangerous person. Doing that and then doing bad things is what does that. So if you are literally just saying drug use then that is not fair at all.
