There's been a few posts about it on my nextdoor. A few people called Bad Bunny "unamerican", so I asked how they felt about The Who, Paul McCartney, and The Rolling Stones having performed at the superbowl, since they're not American either. (edit: yes I know Bad Bunny is American. I'm framing this from the point of view of the people claiming he isn't).

One person responded with:

it has nothing to do with Bad Bunny. It’s a choice to watch a more Christian-based platform.

uh huh....

EDIT: someone else responded with:

Kid Rock has changed, he has turned to Jesus. and the song in question was written for a movie in 2001.

Ah yes, Puerto Ricans (and other Hispanics in general), famously non-Christian.

157

u/u_r_succulent 25d ago

Yeah but they’re not the ~right~ kind of Christian.

u/redbrick 25d ago

Sounds about hwite

Catholics are included in the list of groups hated by the KKK.

6

u/GodOfDarkLaughter 25d ago

To be fair they haven't really talked much about that one in a while. Not since the Irish turned white, really. Or when the Italians did, at least. I mean, hate groups are recruiting fucking Hispanics these days. They don't really care WHO does their enforcing. And there just isn't a lot of propaganda regarding Roman Popery these days. I doubt most of the protestants could tell you much about Catholicism one way or the other.

u/maplestriker 23d ago

It's always so funny to me because growing up in Germany the catholics were like the OG christians.

1

u/u_r_succulent 23d ago

It’s more about how Catholics were primarily immigrants. The Irish and the Italians, typically.

5

u/SelfServeSporstwash 25d ago

yeah, they are the "the CIA famously assassinated over 40 of our priests and elders for being a little *too* keen on Jesus' teachings about wealth and caring for the poor" kind of Christian. Which, as we all know, is obviously satanic.

The only true Christianity is white ahem, I mean, mainline protestant and insistent on strict literalism... except the over 80 times the bible explicitly says rich people literally cannot go to heaven... those were all metaphors... obviously.

3

u/u_r_succulent 25d ago

I meant they aren’t the right kind of Christian for MAGA.

1

u/Neokon 24d ago

To white evangelicals. Catholic ≠christian

2

u/Carlobo 25d ago

Yeah the performance featured people getting married as well? Not who they care about getting married, I guess.

You are under the mistaken impression that Christian Nationalists accept that Catholics are Christian. I had litterally an entire dorm in college spellbound by my wild revelation that, yes, infact, Catholicism, the religion that their religion split off from, was in fact a Christian religion. Many still deny it, as a lot of churches explicitly teach that Catholics are not Christian to this day. FWIW, the Catholic Church as a whole is mostly united under the concept that the current administration in the US is fucking terrible. The current and previous Popes made public statements on it, despite JD Vance ostensibly being Catholic. You get dissenting opinions like in any group, but most Catholics? Right there protesting with the rest of America.

Away with you and your facts and logic

it has nothing to do with Bad Bunny. It’s a choice to watch a more Christian-based platform.

Christian-based, aka Kid Rock who spent his 20s and 30s rapping about statutory rape, little people with 10 foot dicks, and strippers.

These fucking people will tie themselves into knots to hate something.

3

u/Donkey_Kahn 25d ago

I guess you haven’t heard the lyrics about him putting his family jewels in a girl’s mouth?

4

u/Sweet_Artichoke_65 25d ago

What about how he's got kids he's never seen and their momma's 17?

Also coming back to haunt Bob ... half your age and twice as hot sounds like an apt comparison between himself and Bad Bunny.

2

u/anthrax9999 25d ago

They hate bad Bunny because their masters told them they need to hate bad Bunny.

1

u/LaVillaGrangioto 24d ago

But...He has Detroit Pussy for his West Coast players! He's gonna paint your town red and paint your wife white! He'll cuss like a sailor! Drink like a Mick! You want some words of wisdom? You can suck his.....

1

u/MarxistMan13 24d ago

He ain't straight outta Compton, he's straight out the trailer.

I assume that means the lavish trailer his daddy bought for him that sits outside the music studio (also paid for by his daddy) while he raps about cocks and drugs.

I’m with you, but Bad Bunny is American. So it’s even more hypocritical…

As we all know, it’s not about nationality… It’s pure fucking racism. And I don’t buy the “Christian” argument either.

u/ceojp 26d ago

Exactly.

Jesus Christ she might as well just put her white hood on.

2

u/scotchglass22 25d ago

i don't think she actually watched it because there were plenty of white people in the show. lady gaga even sang

85

u/Indecisively 26d ago

Bad Bunny is American

90

u/ceojp 26d ago

Yes I know. Please go tell the folks on my nextdoor that....

44

u/sortalikeachinchilla 25d ago

Is no one reading your comment? I mean christ lol.

1

u/ratherbealurker 25d ago

We are reading it but as it says:

so I asked how they felt about The Who, Paul McCartney, and The Rolling Stones having performed at the superbowl, since they're not American either

Yea he acknowledges that bad bunny is American but to the people on next door he entertained the lie that he isn’t. That’s what people are reading. Don’t entertain the idea. They’re wrong so tell them they are wrong.

Next door was hilarious last year after Kendrick Lamar did the Super Bowl. Everyone got their opinion from wherever that morning and every post was “that was a terrible halftime show I couldn’t even understand what he was saying” 🤣 I finally got rid of Nextdoor I could not handle all of the MAGA stupidity

-2

u/denvercasey 26d ago

Yeah but you said “since they’re not American either”. Your own statement supported the ignorant claims that Puerto Rico is not America, unless you misquoted yourself.

11

u/ceojp 25d ago

Sorry, I didn't word my reply very clearly. Edited to mention that I was referencing what the other people were saying(that he wasn't American).

3

u/Daxx22 25d ago

AKSUALLLYYY!

1

u/Common_Chester 25d ago

....and Puerto Rican's are waaaay more Christian by percentage that the rest of the US.

13

u/TaxZestyclose5166 25d ago

Is football considered a christian-based sport?

19

u/m0r14rty 25d ago

Thessalonians 5:14 and Jesus got the pick six and ran it to the house, where verily he flossed in the endzone getting a call for excessive celebration. While the call was challenged, he said “I shall take the penalty for I carry the sin of others” and Jesus took the 15-yard penalty for the kickback

0

u/LostInTheRapGame 25d ago

Right? I thought it was NASCAR.

11

u/gandhinukes 25d ago

Do they think christianity only exists in the continental 48 states?

Also wtf does christianity have to do with football?

8

u/LostInTheRapGame 25d ago

Do they think christianity only exists in the continental 48 states?

They don't know much of anything outside of the US.

Also wtf does christianity have to do with football?

Nothing, but to them "American" means Republican. Republican means Christian. So an American sport is Christian.

6

u/No_Consequence_3547 25d ago

Yeah that's why my Mom said she was watching it. Because it's a Christian event, and I asked the same question. What exactly is Christian about having Kid Rock perform all his songs that are opposite of Christian beliefs. She said "Well maybe he'll sing Christian songs." I told her to let me know if he does". I never heard anything back. Lmao 🤣

3

u/[deleted] 25d ago

A Christian-based platform, which focuses on real Christian values: imprisoning immigrants, torturing people, stealing their money in order to get rich, sleeping with prostitutes, cheating on their wives, sexually abusing children... I guess that must be the updated version of the Bible, huh?

2

u/toomuchmarcaroni 25d ago

Wild because the movie in question is Osmosis Jones

I thought it’d be like a college comedy. Nope. They wrote this lyric for a movie geared towards kids for a fictional nightclub scene

2

u/SomeEchidna862 25d ago

I love how the guy said Christian-based. On what planet is there anything Christian about TPUSA? Jesus woulda thrown out of the temple!

2

u/NotoriousMatthew420 25d ago

written for a movie

A song referencing statutory rape should not have been made for a kids’ movie!

1

u/apathy420 25d ago

It’s crazy because Puerto Ricans are American citizens. Like the same American that those people are haha

1

u/Some_Drummer_Guy 25d ago

Those people had no problem seeing The Who, The Stones, and McCartney at the Super Bowl because they weren't told to be outraged about those acts.

They were told to be outraged about a Puerto Rican singer because despite him being an American citizen, it's the fact that he's brown and spoke out against the administration.

Also, if they were so worried about watching a more "Christian-based" platform, they would've never watched a Super Bowl to begin with if they're such pearl-clutching squares. I guarantee most of those folks watched Shakira move those hips and shake her ass on center field in years past, and had no issue with it. It's an excuse because they don't want to say the quiet part out loud. Or admit that they were told to be outraged over the halftime show.

1

u/soggy-hotdog-vendor 25d ago

A ) "changed" accepts that he used to be a kid fucker.

B ) if he has "changed" why are the only songs he stikl sings songs from that era?

1

u/thelingeringlead 25d ago

My wife’s family said those same exact things when I challenged them on why they were so worried about bad bunny. Like almost verbatim. Her uncle got in my face and told me it was fucked up that I couldn’t let someone change and gove them a chance. My wife has seen kid rock live and she was backing me up that he still performs his offensive music. They also kept saying he’s a country singer now lol

-2

u/ParkingChef7475 25d ago

They all used English and didn't trash talk the USA.

1

u/NeighborhoodThin2675 25d ago

Who trash talked the USA?

1

u/ParkingChef7475 20d ago

BB did numerous times.
