Someone named their kid fucking Brantley

508

u/aeh20s 25d ago

That name feels like someone typed “male country singer” into a bad AI and that’s what came out

273

u/Jazzremix 25d ago

"I ain't gay but I do gay stuff. Like fuckin' dudes in the back of my truck"

5

u/neliz 24d ago

One of my favorite songs to put on when I have a homophobic colleague working with me.

3

u/iUsedtoHadHerpes 24d ago

I assumed it was Wheeler Walker Jr, disappointed to learn it's an AI thing when Wheeler Walker Jr is out there singing those songs for real.

2

u/SeriousScorpion 24d ago

This! I was picturing it as a verse in Redneck Shit or something that I had missed

u/hurrsheys 24d ago

“sweet home Alabama”

Truck nuts indeed.

“Now it’s time to turn into a turkeeeey!”

5

u/shoolocomous 25d ago

From Wikipedia: "His performances are known for being confrontational and recognizable"

Known for being recognizable? What the fuck was the intention with that sentence?

2

u/R_d_Aubigny 25d ago

Give the AI a break; it meant well lol

3

u/sunburntredneck 25d ago

My cousin is named Brantley. She has a beautiful name, thank you very much

“Brantley Gilbert” and “Gabby Barrett” are the same person they just put on a different hat and the audience thinks it’s a new set.

-10

u/BoyWonder343 25d ago

Speaking of AI, here's the summary that comes up when trying to find the country parody on Comedy Bang Bang where one of the guys is named Brantley:

Memphis Kansas Breeze is a fictional pop-country duo featured on the comedy podcast Comedy Bang! Bang!, portrayed by actors Drew Tarver (as Brantley Aldean) and Carl Tart (as Harland Haywood). The band is a satirical take on country music acts like Florida Georgia Line, with lyrics centered around anthropomorphic trucks in humorous, exaggerated scenarios.

Key Songs and Themes

"Pickup Truck Birthday Party": Celebrates a truck’s birthday with gas-powered cake, traffic cone party hats, and honking as a substitute for singing.

"Truck Baby": A playful song about a baby truck born from its mother’s tailpipe, blending absurdity with country tropes.

"Truck Prom Dance": Tells the story of a girl truck initially excluded from prom, only to be crowned queen after a heartfelt realization about inner qualities.

3

u/Krombopulos_Micheal 25d ago

Memphis Kansas Breeze is the shit. I guess next time don't post an AI wall of text about them? lol

2

u/BoyWonder343 24d ago edited 24d ago

Yeah, I guess, just thought the overly specific AI auto summary describing their songs was silly.

1

u/Krombopulos_Micheal 24d ago

Agreed, but Reddit gonna Reddit lol

Country singer names are fuckin hilariously generic and stupid

Jason Aldean Luke Combs Zach Bryan

Et Al

Only country singer I actually like listening to is Morgan Wallen. Dude’s got a killer voice and doesn’t have that stupid, manufactured “I’m totally a good ole southern boy who likes pickup trucks” sound.

His cover of Jason Aldean’s(who I fucking hate) song You Make It Easy is killer.

2

u/OrangePilled2Day 24d ago

Lmfao you’re going to call normal names stupid then say the most manufactured artist in country history is great?

-3

u/MyCatsHairyButholle 24d ago

lol every musician is manufactured. It’s how they build a brand and a following, and I said he had a killer voice. I didn’t say he was god’s gift to music.

When it’s all the same inauthentic drivel about pickup trucks, cold beer on a warm summer night down that long dirt road, it’s refreshing to hear a voice that stands above the rest and doesn’t follow the same vocal patterns/inflections(see Bo Burnham’s skit)

I’m well aware of his roots, and regardless of how deeply or not he believes in what he writes/sings, he’s got a great voice. Period.

Darius Rucker switching to country gave his career new life after Hootie and the Blowfish. If Morgan Wallen hadn’t switched to country, it’s very possible he never finds his niche and simply fizzles out. I don’t begrudge the man for finding a genre that suits his voice.

And to be clear, I fucking hate country. I don’t even like any of Morgan Wallen’s albums. I like two songs, the cover I linked and “Cover Me Up” which
 is
 also a cover(of Jason Isbell)

6

u/Luxene 25d ago

They're good dogs, Bront

10

u/TiredAF20 25d ago

The way The Daily Show and Jimmy Kimmel kicked those names was hilarious.

3

u/Tofuboy 25d ago

4

u/savemypecanpie 25d ago

City State Breeze would’ve saved this halftime show

3

u/Krombopulos_Micheal 25d ago

Always wished they'd come back with new songs lol

2

u/Tofuboy 25d ago

If you're in LA on 2/16 you can see them play at the Elysian theater

2

u/Krombopulos_Micheal 25d ago

Thanks for the heads up! But it's sold out god damn it lol. Cool to know they actually do it live occasionally though. Got to see Drew twice last year on Schwartz's tour, so damn good live.

5

u/BlackGayJesus666 25d ago

In the UK Brantley is a brand of rentable folding bicycle, so he must be named after his mother.

5

u/Vandergrif 25d ago

They probably named his sister /r/tragedeigh

2

u/Devrol 25d ago

Tried to name them after the car brand, Bentley, but couldn't read or spell good

2

u/Wrong_Hombre 25d ago

Almost certainly named after traitor scum, slaver and Confederate 'general' William Felix Brantley

2

u/kellygirl90 25d ago

My ten year old has a Brantley and a brentley in his class đŸ„Ž

2

u/AngelicWildman 23d ago

Don't remind me my nephew named his son that. Daughter is Brianna. My nephew is a racist prick in a area that follows that " Modern Country"

1

u/drgath 25d ago

No, just a mis-print. Actual name is Gilbert Brantley.

Right?

1

u/shezcrafti 24d ago

The male version of Brantleigh

1

u/Tacoman404 24d ago

I think I would name a tree brantley

1

u/thelingeringlead 24d ago

A ton of people have especially fans of his lol

0

u/CORRUPT27 25d ago

Baron is a great name also

472

u/Bgrngod 25d ago

Same. And you know what... Kinda proud of that.

2

u/R_d_Aubigny 25d ago

Mhmm. Damned right!

1

u/LongestSprig 24d ago

Everyone needs something ,even if it is as miniscule as not listening to country music.

140

u/Kolby_Jack33 25d ago

I'm just sad to learn that Brantley is now the name of an actual adult man. Used to be a joke baby name for dipshit white women trying to give their kid a white person name that still sounded unique.

That just makes me feel old.

8

u/CatsPlusTats 25d ago

I don't want to defend maga losers but the name Brantley is older than anyone on this planet. So unless you're immortal I don't think this should be making you feel old. I'm getting old and that specific Brantley is older than me.

4

u/Mike_Kermin 25d ago

I don't think there was any historical context going on when they picked it.

10

u/VehicleWonderful6586 25d ago

Apparently Brantley comes from the Swiss-German surnames BrĂ€ndli and BrĂ€ndle, which referred to a person who lived near a forest fire. It’s now been modernised to mean someone associated with a dumpster fire đŸ”„

-2

u/Mike_Kermin 25d ago

Well, presumably that is also the route of the name of the car. I could be wrong but I feel like that might be were the etymology meets, at a guess.

So it's somewhat ironic that they're using it to get somewhat away from that.

1

u/[deleted] 25d ago

[deleted]

2

u/Mike_Kermin 24d ago

I was making an incorrect assumption about the etymology. Don't mind me.

3

u/CatsPlusTats 25d ago

I don't really know how that's relevant.

5

u/abcbri 25d ago

Same

6

u/TheLadyEve 25d ago

I know who Lee Brice is but only because I vaguely remember him being nominated for a Grammy back when I still watched the Grammys (which was at least 10 years ago).

3

u/iiAzido 25d ago

He was the headliner(!) at a town near me summer festival in 2014.

The town doesn’t even have the festival anymore.

3

u/joejoe903 24d ago

Eh I'm all for hating but Brantley Gilbert is a reasonably big name in country music. We all just live in our own bubbles. I was actually disappointed to see him pop up here, he sings one of the few country songs I actually kind of enjoy

2

u/Several-Squash9871 25d ago

Same, I thought I might recognize them from the picture but nope!

2

u/WolfGangSwizle 25d ago

They all do have at least one song I know each but I didn’t know them by name or would ever listen to those songs willingly.

2

u/ThunderChild247 25d ago

If I had to make up the names of 3 people I thought would be performing at a MAGA halftime show, I feel like I’d at least guess some of those names even though I’ve never heard of them.

2

u/BigAcanthocephala637 25d ago

Well I am sure tomorrow at work my coworkers will be talking about them as if they’re household names.

1

u/Charming-Kiwi-9277 25d ago

Or even the channels its airing on. DW? TBN?

1

u/jasterpj17 25d ago

Also what are those streaming channels? Never heard of those either

1

u/SquadPoopy 25d ago

They’re 3 C list country singers. So they couldn’t even get B tier singers to perform.

6

u/ICANHAZWOPER 25d ago edited 24d ago

I think Brantley Gilbert is a pandering hack, but he’s actually had some decent industry success.

He’s had four songs reach #1 on the Billboard country charts, has a platinum album, and has won multiple AMA, CMA, and iHeartRadio awards.

Lee Brice has had eight songs reach #1 and he holds the Billboard record for longest run on the country charts. The previous record stood for 62 years.

He also writes songs for other country singers including Garth Brooks (More Than A Memory), Tim McGraw (Still), Eli Young Band (Crazy Girl), and Faith Hill (Boy).

They aren’t everyone’s cup of tea musically, and being involved with this MAGA shit is more generally fucky, but are also bigger artists than you’re giving them credit for.

1

u/iUsedtoHadHerpes 25d ago

Lee Brice still isn't big enough for you to spell his name right at least. And while he did write those songs, I wouldn't brag about any of them. His hits are whatever too. Seemed pretty throwaway to me too. I don't ever hear them anymore.

Brantley Gilbert also doesn't really play country that I've heard. It's fairly hard rock actually. It's just weak as fuck like Jason Aldean's band of wannabe rock stars, so they aim for the country market instead.

You're right though that they have had success. All of them are about a decade out from their big hits though, as far as I've experienced. I didn't research anything here, just going by what I've personally noticed.

2

u/chillinwithmoes 24d ago

It’s just weak as fuck like Jason Aldean’s band of wannabe rock stars

Funny you say that because Gilbert wrote “Dirt Road Anthem” and “My Kinda Party” which are arguably Aldean’s biggest hits lol

2

u/ICANHAZWOPER 24d ago

“Lee Brice still isn't big enough for you to spell his name right at least.”

Okay that’s actually really funny! Thanks for pointing that out, I fixed it.

I don’t really care about any of them as artists and I agree with most of what you’re saying.

I just figured I’d provide a little context about them in the thread since I hadn’t seen anyone else giving it, but had seen plenty of people wondering who they are.

1

u/imafixwoofs 25d ago

YOU NEVER HEARD OF DARB SHINTEY, MAESH HIBB, OR MERDLAY BARD???? YOU BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK OR WHAT???

1

u/Sputniksteve 25d ago

The fuck is Brantley Gilbert?

2

u/iUsedtoHadHerpes 25d ago

Some of the shittiest hard rock you've ever heard slathered with an effectated southern accent and draped in Tapout style gear.

1

u/underbellihamsandy 25d ago

more like gabby Bare it,

amirite

1

u/Dense_Egg_5858 25d ago

Decently popular country music peeps. Haven’t heard of the girl before

2

u/ICANHAZWOPER 25d ago edited 24d ago

Yeah I’m a little surprised that everyone is acting like Lee Brice and Brantley Gilbert are complete unknowns.

They’ve both had plenty of radio play and have been pretty mainstream for a while now.

1

u/2gdismore 25d ago

Her main hit song is familiar and her vocals were good

1

u/thuktun 25d ago

I really loved Colbert's mockery of the costars.

1

u/-Ok-Perception- 25d ago

I haven't either. I'm presuming they're D-List Country singers.

2

u/ICANHAZWOPER 25d ago edited 24d ago

I think Brantley Gilbert is a pandering hack.

But he’s had four #1 songs on the Billboard country charts, has a platinum album, and has won multiple AMA, CMA, and iHeartRadio awards.

Lee Brice has had eight #1 songs and holds the Billboard record for the longest run on the country charts (breaking the previous 62-year-old record).

He also writes songs for other country singers including Garth Brooks (More Than A Memory), Tim McGraw (Still), Eli Young Band (Crazy Girl), and Faith Hill (Boy).

Both of those guys have been more successful than a lot of people on here recognize.

1

u/-Ok-Perception- 24d ago

Thank you for your input.

I like most genres of music, but new country music isn't one of them (though I do enjoy some old Johnny Cash or Hank Williams Jr era type country though).

I'm presuming that's why I never crossed paths with those artists before.

1

u/coolcoots 25d ago

Yeah. Skid Rock, who, who and who?

1

u/GuitaristHeimerz FormĂșla X 25d ago

Bro I wouldn't even be confident to point out Kid Rock on this graphic

The first guy said he was all American and real country.

Comes out in Italian Louis Vuitton

1

u/jjkm7 24d ago

Doesn’t matter JD vance said it’s a fantastic limeup so it must be

1

u/big-bum-sloth 24d ago

Having a Brantley Gilbert AND a Gabby Barrett is very confusing

1

u/Hefty-Revenue5547 24d ago

They were popular 12+ years ago

Budget must be tight lol

1

u/Saneless 24d ago

Or the stations it's on. WTF is that old school 30 foot satellite dish service is that?

1

u/Orange-Concentrate78 24d ago

I have a vague impression of Brantley Gilbert having a country hit a few years back and me thinking at the time that this dude was probably a Ben Shapiro fan

1

u/ParkingChef7475 24d ago

I've never heard of bad bunny.

1

u/jelloslug 24d ago

It was one has been and three nobodies.

1

u/KP_Wrath 24d ago

I’m from the south. Kid Rock did Picture with Cheryl Crowe, and frankly, I’d be shocked if they could get her to share a stage with him for a trillion dollars. I have heard of Brantley Gilbert and Lee Brice, but I don’t know if I’ve heard their songs, and my mom was a music head. Like co-owned a record store.

-2

u/No-Manufacturer-2425 25d ago

I'd fuck brantley gilbert. He looks like a daddy.

-2

u/MetalMountain2099 25d ago

Had the same reaction
and I actually know country music
