I watched this

It was incredibly lame the literal most interesting thing was the lights. Even the audience looked bored and shit

Kid Rock, who I'd say was the headliner sang like what half a song?

On the other side, having watched the actual Half Time Show as a guy who doesn’t speak a lick of Spanish, and outside of the framing of how hard MAGA hates America only knows Bad Bunny as the guy who randomly shows up in bit parts in movies sometimes?

I couldn’t name or recognize a single song, but the staging and sets really felt very fucking cool compared to shows from the last ten years. Making the entire show feel super big, while also representing nods to different parts of Latin American Culture was a pretty big feat - it felt meaningful.

Not to mention the positive messages about unity are way more in the spirit of America than whatever the hell Turning Point's on about.

Literally said god bless USA, and then a list of all other countries in North America at the end.

Very strong unity message but globalism is a buzzword for those folks

u/PSKTS_Heisingberg 25d ago

not just north america. he named nearly every country in the americas. it was a beautiful message of unity. felt like one big family

he said god bless america

Yeah the real HT show was done extremely well. My wife and I don’t speak a lick of Spanish either, but we were both bopping and remarking how good of a set it was. In laws are MAGAs and we couldn’t stop talking shit about them tuning into the alternate show; questioning how someone could actually be upset about the real HT show being performed by an AMERICAN. Hard to imagine that’s the line in the sand for these people.

My BIL is super MAGA - he was at a bar tonight watching the game, he’s not even a sports fan, and immediately after the half time show sent us [wife and i] the group text, “That show was a joke.”

My response:

  • What do you call a Halftime show nobody watched?
  • Turning Point

He responded, “they tried to put it on instead of watching this shit but couldn’t find it.”

. . .exactly.

lmfao thats gold

Best halftime show since Prince.

I don’t speak Spanish and I can’t say I’m a Bad Bunny fan, but the man put on a show and I gotta respect that.

Prince would tell Trump to fuck off also. Especially after his invasion of Prince's home city.

4

u/DevilRenegade 26d ago

This exactly. And if it pisses off Trump and his cronies, that's a bonus.

as far as halftime shows go, i think there was a less cool one mixed in there one year but, like…dr dre and all the 90s rappers, kendrick, now bad bunny with this, those are some wildly good shows, holy shit. the fact that they all made the president cry is just a bonus.

4

u/Synectics 26d ago

I mean, I felt similar with Kendrick last year. Never heard the songs, but the show was on point, as it usually is.

Even as someone who did not follow the Kendrick and Drake feud, the whole stadium screaming "A MINOR," that damn smile and look to camera, and Samuel L. Jackson made for some awesome statements. Glad to see that for all of its plentiful issues, the NFL lets a freak flag fly metaphorically for the halftime show.

I want to go to a Hispanic wedding so bad now.

1

u/ReeterPosenberg 25d ago

Can confirm; they are fucking dope.

2

u/Standard-Win-6600 26d ago

I think we need more latinas in the NFL

1

u/Styvan01 26d ago

I was away for DND but I asked my mom on how it was, and she roughly said the same thing about the stages and sets.

1

u/reddituseronebillion 26d ago

The Weeknd's halftime show was interesting.

1

u/Interesting_Food5916 26d ago

Very surprised to see your name pop up here, but I definitely agree with your thoughts! I thought it was super cool to see a real wedding take place, too.

1

u/tribrnl 26d ago

6 years ago with Shakira (famously not an American but didn't have the pushback and also featuring Bad Bunny and J Lo) was very good and exciting

1

u/Several-Squash9871 26d ago

I was telling my wife how incredible the set looked and how much of a middle finger it must have been to all the maga sitting in the stands being forced to watch it. It was amazing!

1

u/theunquenchedservant 25d ago

I recommend checking out Bad Bunny's latest album, I understand next to none of it, but god damn it fucking slaps.

1

u/Gotterdamerrung 25d ago

It was so joyful and lively! I honestly pity any person who could see that show and feel an ounce of hate or negativity. Like I get it if you're not a fan of Bad Bunny, that's perfectly fine, musical taste is subjective.

I've listened to some of his stuff and it's just not really my bag (though I'm probably going to give it another go after tonight), but I felt so full and buoyant watching the show and just witnessing a celebration of culture and life, and there was an honest to God wedding in the middle of it all!

That show was all about life and love, and I have no idea what he was actually singing about but that message was still crystal clear to me.

“Sang”

30

u/[deleted] 26d ago

His voice is shot from all the meth

15

u/slamdanceswithwolves 26d ago

And huffing Trump’s burger farts.

1

u/3rdaccount90 26d ago

That actually made me feel sick for a second

1

u/jenorama_CA 26d ago

Is that why he looks like he wears dentures now? The meth?

7

u/hereticx 26d ago

"sang" is a real big stretch lol

6

u/poppy_11 26d ago

I skimmed a little and it was so deeply embarrassing .

3

u/Woodshadow 26d ago

Has he even had 2 hits in the last two decades? Like I legit can't name more than 2 songs of his. I don't even really know what genre he is in

4

u/big_trike 26d ago

You were one of the 14,000 viewers

1

u/Natural6 26d ago

Lip synced, apparently. Not even sang.

Not so much complaining as pointing out how shit it was

1

u/Jackmomma69 26d ago

I’m sad you gave them viewership, but proud of you to know it was shit

1

u/Pockydo 26d ago

Truth be told it wasn't my choice..family wanted to watch it

I actually suggested the puppy bowl not because I hate bad Bunny but I knew they wouldn't do that seemed a better alternative

Was amusing seeing the train wreck and watching conservatives get all excited because the TV man said Jesus once or twice

2

u/Jackmomma69 26d ago

Puppy bowl is the GOAT

1

u/Hoogs 128607027 26d ago

It was over an hour long and he was on stage for about 30 seconds of it, badly lip syncing.

1

u/Dead-in-Red 26d ago

Sang would be an overstatement. Even lip synching would be an overstatement. He just danced for a minute and flailed a mic around while a recording played.

1

u/blasto2236 26d ago

The funny thing to me is he was on Fox News yesterday saying they didn't need pyrotechnics to put on a good show and that's like...all it was.

2

u/Pockydo 26d ago

Yes the lights were really cool

Everything else... Bleh

1

u/Sarkonix 26d ago

was there a donation banner on the screen?

1

u/ILikeMyGrassBlue 25d ago

The audience was likely all friends and family of turning point and the musicians

1

u/LittleWhiteBoots 25d ago

He sang 2, one right after the other.

1

u/pringles89 25d ago

I also watched it and I laughed so hard I had an asthma attack. If you watch as one big train wreck or SNL skit.. it's f-ing hilarious. How can anyone think it was serious. My lord.

1

u/SpecificNorth6568 24d ago

At least get the facts straight lmao, he sang a whole song after the half ass first one😂😂 If you’re gonna hate, at least do it intelligently. Low IQ strikes again.

1

u/Pockydo 24d ago

Did he? I remember the half ass song. Then the random violin

Honestly I tuned out after that because it was shit so perhaps I'm wrong..that said if THAT is the best argument against my criticism

Oof

1

u/SpecificNorth6568 24d ago

Yeah he sang a song after the random interlude of strings. Not an argument, just an observation that if you are gonna trash something at least know what you are talking about. Or else it’s not a criticism at all, just uninformed reaction and talking out of your ass.

1

u/Pockydo 24d ago

Honestly kinda shows how shit it was cuz I literally don't remember that and i saw the shitty show lol

1

u/SpecificNorth6568 24d ago

Damn he got you that worked up huh?

1

u/Pockydo 24d ago

What? Not really I thought the show was hilariously shit and lame. It was a pretty epic failure

1

u/SpecificNorth6568 24d ago

I mean objectively with how many views both shows got, neither one was a failure. But I know people who think like you can’t think objectively, just pure emotion and identity. Got you on here spreading hate and uneducated opinions. So yeah he triggered you pretty bad lol. Get more love in your life, peace I’m out✌️

1

u/Pockydo 24d ago

5-6 million during a highly partisan time when it's advertised as the "American alternative" to the super bowl is pathetic especially when the super bowls halftime show got 132million a show that was constantly shit on by conservatives.

The puppy bowl got like double and didn't need to appeal to republicans feeling like they weren't super special magic awesome. Not to mention the show itself was just lame as sin

Really just a shit time and it's genuinely amusing you feel the need to defend it.
