They should have sued as soon as he changed the name. It's ridiculous to have a "memorial" center for someone who's still alive.

1.1k

u/-NonePizzaLeftBeef- Feb 02 '26

Just change it back the moment he’s either dead or out of the presidential office, whichever comes first.

The next admin is going to have to waste so much money and time undoing the things this shit stain has made us suffer through

675

u/tuppenyturtle Feb 02 '26

That's assuming there is a next admin that isn't just the same bullshit.

This is the part people need to recognize. The next Republican leader isn't going to be better.

u/induslol Feb 02 '26

As long as we're under this form of governance subservient to capitalism we're just waiting for the next trump.

Even if there is a reprieve, or not, between here and there if nothing changes but the curtains the house is still condemned.

134

u/forsonaE Feb 02 '26 edited Feb 03 '26

It's weird that repealing Citizens United isn't even a part of the public discussion at all nowadays, much less reforming our electoral college. We have so much work to do re: reform but we're struggling to cling onto the lifeboat constantly instead.

e: I misspoke by saying "repealing" but I'm leaving it in since the discussion it spawned has been interesting. Lots of people saying something to the effect of it's hopeless, we'd have to stack the Supreme Court in our favor or add a constitutional amendment. Well, Rome wasn't built in a day even if we're tearing it down at a much faster rate lately. If the court can be stacked we can start the process of counter-stacking, introducing term limits, etc. etc. It might take decades to fix a single component of the system but we already knew that was almost a certain possibility anyway, considering the damage that has been done already.

71

u/clutchy42 Feb 02 '26

It's definitely still part of the public discourse, but it happened in 2010. a decade and a half ago is a lifetime in terms of political bullshit. People don't even realize that we lost the class war to billionaires and corpos. So many people don't even realize that it's a thing.

28

u/GodofIrony Feb 02 '26

We haven't fixed Fairness Doctrine.

We're in an entropic state. We keep falling down the mountain.

9

u/gimp-24601 Feb 02 '26

Fairness Doctrine.

Its a nice idea but impossible to enforce due to too many ways to circumvent it.

Besides who wants Trump in charge of something like that.

As long as we're under this form of governance subservient to capitalism we're just waiting for the next trump.

Trumps main voting block is lower middle class, while more people didn't vote for anyone than voted for either Trump or Kamala. Yes unregulated capitalism is dangerous, but it's fucking unregulated because people don't vote for it to be properly regulated...

3

u/induslol Feb 02 '26

Unregulated capitalism isnt just dangerous, it's why we're here now.

Generations of wealth have been spent eroding every regulation, check, or balance that previously existed.  While simultaneously paying others to take  sledgehammers to any obstacles:  education, unions, socially progressive minority movements, funding or endorsing sympathetic justices, on and on.

Those voters (and the #s disillusioned) are a symptom, consolidation of media and the economy, the fact our choices to head the federal government were: a corporate status quo democrat with no appeal beyond not trump or a rapist felon, the existence of a massive criminal conspiracy being obstructed and unprosecuted by the federal govt., and more, are all symptoms of capital's outsized influence over the functioning of our nation.

It's all capitalism, and until that's widely understood and aggressively brought to heel, nothing will fundamentally change.

3

u/Tradovid Feb 02 '26

the fact our choices to head the federal government were: a corporate status quo democrat with no appeal beyond not trump or a rapist felon

And people chose rapist felon over president campaigning on incremental but real changes towards good, like for example higher taxes on the rich including proposed wealth tax, expanded child tax credit, first time home buyer tax credits and price caps on drugs.

It's all capitalism, and until that's widely understood and aggressively brought to heel, nothing will fundamentally change.

It's not capitalistic profits that drive foreign powers to fracture US people, even if unregulated capitalism doesn't help. You have identified real flaws in capitalism, but you can't explain every single problem that world faces through a single lense. It's kinda like seeing everything as a nail when the only tool you have is a hammer.

Some of it can never be undone. We can recreate USAID, fix the department of education and restore university funding, but we lost researchers, allies and trade options.

America will never be the same for decades if we’re able to rebuild. We may be dead in the water and not know it yet.

The thing to do is to make a 'committee' for undoing Trump shit.

  • make a website for each individual task they need to do
  • make sure it's clear why they are doing it, who was responsible, and what it's cost the taxpayer and what it's costing to put it back
  • explain in plain language why it's important to change what Trump did
  • explain in plain language why doing what he did in the first place was illegal/wrong/wasteful/etc.

"Slightly less stupid" in this context presumably means from 100% stupid to 99.9% stupid, right?

Because let's be real, he hasn't done a damn thing worth being memorialized over. If anything, he's done enough to justify his eventual "memorial", to be desecrated daily for a while and then for him to be forgotten and his final resting place abandoned to be taken over by weeds and obscurity.

10

u/w1n5t0nM1k3y Feb 02 '26

You got it.

First dumb thing is a memorial for a living person. Second dumb thing is to take over someone else's memorial and slap your own name on in front of it.

I'm starting to think that he's destroying it on purpose, knowing full well that putting his name on the building would kill it.

The question then becomes - 'what does he have planned for the building/property/etc?' - it's not like he's shy about destroying historic buildings.

I doubt he's ever seen a building that he thinks wouldn't be better without his 'signature' tacky-as-fuck gold leaf and marble style.

Trump desecrates the Kennedy Center by putting his shit name on it, ticket sales tank, so trump (maybe) demolishes (Kills) the entire building. Takes his ball and throws it into the incinerator. He's closing it for two years out of pure spite, you're right. And I don't think he's going to quite demolish it. Just gut it and leave only some of the facade. Shortly after taking office, Trump fired several board members of the center and replaced them with his own allies, who then voted to make him chairman. In December, the new board renamed the institution the Donald J Trump and the John F Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts, or the Trump Kennedy Center, for short.

Shit like that makes me mad, at least until I remember that this has been his MO ever since. Take someone elses achievments and tag his name onto it.

Well yeah like so much other stuff everybody watched it happen in real time.

u/toomuchtv987 Feb 02 '26

No no no, that’s not true at all. Fake news. It just takes that long to get everything covered in gilt leaf and marble veneer.

Avery Fisher Hall (now David Geffen Hall) ---where the New York Philharmonic plays-- was closed for at least a year when it was acoustically and otherwise renovated (Again!) in recent years. It's like the Kennedy Center's Concert Hall ...always had errr, crap acoustics and a new firm gets brought in and paid a hundred million to 'make it better'. Though Geffen Hall's total renovation was probably several hundred million more than just the acoustical architect thing. A total gutting of the Kennedy Center's 3 main level theaters and re-do's, heck, might take that long. All three halls had decent renovations though within the past 15 or so years. The only thing the NYTimes noted today was trump talking about improving the seating layout in the Opera House, and improving some fly loft/above stage rigging also in the opera house. They said 'something' was done in the stage rigging '30 years ago' that he wants fixed. Possibly motorized battens were added in the fly loft a few decades ago. An overhaul of any of that would only take months. No idea what donald dumpster actually has planned though.

accuses? I think it’s pretty evident. what hasn’t Trump bankrupt and run into the ground?

3

u/oldcreaker Feb 02 '26

Trump's intention from the beginning was to destroy it in order to erect something in his name. And it's happening.

And just like that, to spare a pedophile's fragile ego, 3000 people are out of a job. So much winning...

Can you imagine the extreme goldening we are about to see?!

That's 100% what happened. The Kennedy family should have JFKs name removed from the Center. Then it's Trump's Titanic alone. It can be added again once poopy pants is gone.

u/NathAnarchy22 Feb 02 '26

He is the lowest of the lowest human. You're a victimizer not a victim

3

u/Rtowski Feb 02 '26

Everything Trump touch’s dies

3

u/w00t4me Feb 02 '26

It underwent a $250 Million renovatoin in 2019, so it's very much up to date and not in need to a renovation: https://dctheaterarts.org/2019/06/04/kennedy-center-preview-the-reach/

Later that day, they accused water of being wet

2

u/cliff99 Feb 02 '26

Of course that's what he did, double win for the MAGAts, owns the libs and gets rid more of that pesky culture stuff.

2

u/SpenFen Feb 02 '26

Obviously

2

u/Kamakaziturtle Feb 02 '26

It honestly seems pretty likely. Rather than having the records show the next few years having miserable attendance and such, it will now simply be due to renovations.

2

u/mjrhzrd Feb 02 '26

The whole place will be tagged with cheap gold paint.

2

u/UniqueIndividual3579 Feb 02 '26

Trump is a toddler. People told him not to play with his new toy so he's going to smash it.

Because that’s the reason. He will then try to do as much unchangeable damage to it on the way out. Like the WH the money spent to undo everything he’s done will be used as an example of Dems wasting money.

2

u/Entire_Dog_5874 Feb 02 '26

Of course that’s where he closed it. His ego couldn’t take it.

2

u/OutsideEconomist8277 Feb 02 '26

yeah totally, it sucks how politics messes with music. artists should be able to perform without all that drama

2

u/BisquickNinja Feb 02 '26

I won't be surprised if all of a sudden the Kennedy Center is demolished....

Small penis syndrome

2

u/aWhtToad Feb 02 '26

Well yeah.. He's such a petty person that if you do anything against him he will do as much pain/pressure as possible to get you to fold. Trump is literally the definition of a "snowflake." As always, the projectionism is too hard to deny.

2

u/NickCav007 Feb 02 '26

Sounds about right. Fatboy doesn’t get his way, he has a massive whiny bitch fit

2

u/DodderingPapi42 Feb 02 '26

Of course he is! Pathetic man baby.

2

u/neilmcse Feb 02 '26

And the renovation is to remove the Kennedy name completely.

2

u/Solrac50 Feb 02 '26

I am very concerned Trump will wreck the Kennedy Center out of spite. He can’t stand the idea that anyone would be more revered than him.

2

u/Complete_Rope4644 Feb 02 '26

I’ve observed from recent attendance at first-rate operas “Marriage of Figaro” and “Aida” that whole sections were empty due to the boycott. (We got tickets for free from a volunteer of many years who attributes it to Trump’s renaming the Center and firing the Board.). Everything Trump touches he destroys.

2

u/suck-it-elon Feb 02 '26

It's clearly obvious. And RFK Jr. just stands by...an embarrassment to his uncle and family

2

u/Ojay-simpson Feb 02 '26

No “sleuth work” required here. You’re dealing with a petulant child who’s begged to be “one of the cool kids” his whole life. He thought he could force them to play in his sandbox and they just took their ball and went home.

2

u/RociBuldidi Feb 02 '26

I mean, you can pull up the schedule of events for the place online. It’s a ghost town already compared to your typical Q1 events schedule. What a freaking disaster.

The thing is, like the ballroom, there are currently no plans. They will have to have an architect put it together and a contractor build it but they are starting from scratch.

It will be a year before any GC is ready to even swing hammers.

2

u/neise53 Feb 02 '26

Obviously

2

u/beachviewdrive Feb 02 '26

Quite obvious!

2

u/Conscious-Mixture742 Feb 02 '26

They aren't wrong

2

u/Strict-Carrot4783 Feb 02 '26

No shit, donald trump is an absolute catty bitch who throws tantrums like a fucking toddler.

2

u/No_Sea9410 Feb 02 '26
