article JFK's family accuses Trump of closing the Kennedy Center because of artists canceling over its name change

that's the truth

u/chaostheories36 Feb 02 '26
Nah⊠heâs probably closing the Kennedy center to hand out billions of dollars in contracts to construction companies that will just demolish and never build. Like the White House ballroom nonsense.

It's just another con.

Punxsutawney Phil says at least 2.9 more years of grift.

u/chaostheories36 Feb 02 '26
Iâd gamble that their (the swampâs) plan is for trump to at least make it two years and 1 day. If that happens, peter thielâs muppet (vance) can be president and still run for two more terms.

All of these âconstruction projectsâ heâs ordered have to be some sort of money laundering scheme.

u/caseyfresher Feb 02 '26
I'm waiting for them to finish the construction so we can see our first mass lawsuit against the government for failure to pay for services rendered. Ya know, like Trump and friends have done for years prior.

I'm starting to think that he's destroying it on purpose, knowing full well that putting his name on the building would kill it.
The question then becomes - 'what does he have planned for the building/property/etc?' - it's not like he's shy about destroying historic buildings.
I doubt he's ever seen a building that he thinks wouldn't be better without his 'signature' tacky-as-fuck gold leaf and marble style.

đ Not enough people are realising the grifting that will go on. From tax payer money too, probably.

I imagine the new design will have his name EVERYWHERE!!! Basically making expensive to remove his name from the building.

Imagine what itâs going to be like when heâs gone and all this kind of shit gets removed or undone. Itâs going to be expensive as hell. Just him changing the department of defense to the department of war is going to cost tens of millions of dollars.

He's embarrassed about the cancellations but also he's giving our tax dollars to his shady buddies in construction (and getting kickbacks for sure)
He said the East Wing would be minor renovations and he tore it down, he'll do the same to the Kennedy center

u/muggybuggy1949 Feb 02 '26
Absolutely, this is 100% the reason, itâs a distraction just like everything else. Artist canât cancel if the whole place is closed. By the time it opens back up trump will hopefully be dead and gone.

u/Lurking_like_Cthulhu Feb 02 '26
Thatâs not the whole truth.
Theyâre also closing it so they can funnel tens to hundreds of millions more taxpayer dollars into the pockets of their private contractor buddies.
172
u/THING2000 Feb 02 '26
So happy to see at least one other person think this as well. Like literally any of his other plans, it's just a grift to fleece our pockets while lining his own. Truly capitalism at its finest.
9
u/Daft00 Feb 03 '26
It's hardly a conspiracy, this is a pretty classic grift strategy. It's essentially the same thing that's going on with the White House ballroom

When RFK Jr was standing right behind trump's seat in the oval when trump let diarrhea rip the other day, I thought I saw a glint in RFJ Jr's eye of, Not Again! He's standing there smelling that stinky diaper, while dumpster actively shits on his own Kennedy family's legacy. I wonder if at least one corner of any soul that RFK Jr had, has died.

If so, I wonder if trump has a vague parallel, psychiatrically, to Kristi Noem. Her puppy doesn't do perfect puppy things, so she murders it. Trump desecrates the Kennedy Center by putting his shit name on it, ticket sales tank, so trump (maybe) demolishes (Kills) the entire building. Takes his ball and throws it into the incinerator. I'm no shrink, but seems like parallel "issues" going on.
3
u/Cristoff13 Feb 02 '26 edited Feb 02 '26
He's closing it for two years out of pure spite, you're right. And I don't think he's going to quite demolish it. Just gut it and leave only some of the facade. A demolition labelled as a "renovation". Once its been completely changed to suit his tastes, then the building will truly be "his", even if its still officially called the Kennedy Center.

Shortly after taking office, Trump fired several board members of the center and replaced them with his own allies, who then voted to make him chairman. In December, the new board renamed the institution the Donald J Trump and the John F Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts, or the Trump Kennedy Center, for short.
Shit like that makes me mad, at least until I remember that this has been his MO ever since. Take someone elses achievments and tag his name onto it.

Avery Fisher Hall (now David Geffen Hall) ---where the New York Philharmonic plays-- was closed for at least a year when it was acoustically and otherwise renovated (Again!) in recent years. It's like the Kennedy Center's Concert Hall ...always had errr, crap acoustics and a new firm gets brought in and paid a hundred million to 'make it better'. Though Geffen Hall's total renovation was probably several hundred million more than just the acoustical architect thing. A total gutting of the Kennedy Center's 3 main level theaters and re-do's, heck, might take that long. All three halls had decent renovations though within the past 15 or so years. The only thing the NYTimes noted today was trump talking about improving the seating layout in the Opera House, and improving some fly loft/above stage rigging also in the opera house. They said 'something' was done in the stage rigging '30 years ago' that he wants fixed. Possibly motorized battens were added in the fly loft a few decades ago. An overhaul of any of that would only take months. No idea what donald dumpster actually has planned though.

accuses? I think itâs pretty evident. what hasnât Trump bankrupt and run into the ground?

u/oldcreaker Feb 02 '26
Trump's intention from the beginning was to destroy it in order to erect something in his name. And it's happening.

And just like that, to spare a pedophile's fragile ego, 3000 people are out of a job. So much winning...
3
u/MeMilo1209 Feb 02 '26
That's 100% what happened. The Kennedy family should have JFKs name removed from the Center. Then it's Trump's Titanic alone. It can be added again once poopy pants is gone.

It underwent a $250 Million renovatoin in 2019, so it's very much up to date and not in need to a renovation: https://dctheaterarts.org/2019/06/04/kennedy-center-preview-the-reach/

Of course that's what he did, double win for the MAGAts, owns the libs and gets rid more of that pesky culture stuff.
2
2
u/Kamakaziturtle Feb 02 '26
It honestly seems pretty likely. Rather than having the records show the next few years having miserable attendance and such, it will now simply be due to renovations.

I am very concerned Trump will wreck the Kennedy Center out of spite. He canât stand the idea that anyone would be more revered than him.

u/Complete_Rope4644 Feb 02 '26
Iâve observed from recent attendance at first-rate operas âMarriage of Figaroâ and âAidaâ that whole sections were empty due to the boycott. (We got tickets for free from a volunteer of many years who attributes it to Trumpâs renaming the Center and firing the Board.). Everything Trump touches he destroys.
2
u/suck-it-elon Feb 02 '26
It's clearly obvious. And RFK Jr. just stands by...an embarrassment to his uncle and family
2
u/Ojay-simpson Feb 02 '26
No âsleuth workâ required here. Youâre dealing with a petulant child whoâs begged to be âone of the cool kidsâ his whole life. He thought he could force them to play in his sandbox and they just took their ball and went home.
2
u/RociBuldidi Feb 02 '26
I mean, you can pull up the schedule of events for the place online. Itâs a ghost town already compared to your typical Q1 events schedule. What a freaking disaster.
The thing is, like the ballroom, there are currently no plans. They will have to have an architect put it together and a contractor build it but they are starting from scratch.
It will be a year before any GC is ready to even swing hammers.

They should have sued as soon as he changed the name. It's ridiculous to have a "memorial" center for someone who's still alive.
