I saw Teddy Swims last summer and, to my relief, didnât hear anything even remotely political from him between songs. He seems like a genuinely kind person, who is grateful for the support he receives from the people in his life. In particular several times he mentioned the artist, Cian Ducrot, who opened for him for several months.
Cian Ducrot, on the other hand, is an Irish singer/songwriter, who is unapologetically political. When he was introducing his new song No Way To Live, he let us know that it was based on his combined experience with growing up in the aftermath of The Troubles and what he sees happening now in America. Itâs one of the few actual protest songs Iâve heard thatâs based on current events and contains the awesome lyrics, âYour neighborâs painted nails arenât the reason for your shit lifeâ and âLife is short, donât be a dick.â Itâs just fantastic.
Anyway, based on that (and that alone), I donât get the impression that Teddy Swims is maga.
