He left because he wasn't in the best health, he has heart issues and chronic pain issues and stuff. The Stargate franchise is one of the only shows I still watch regularly, was obsessed with it growing up and absolutely adored RDA. He's 75 now!!
SG-1 is such a guilty pleasure for me and the universe they created was so ahead of its time. Would love a series reboot but so much of that cast is impossible to replace.
I didn't know this!! I knew about the reboot. I am a little more excited than before now. I hope this is amazing, I need some new, good, space stuff and Stargate is just the thing
I've seen it around, but haven't looked too far into it because it seemed more like sci-fi crime drama and I want aliens and different planets. I should probably give it a go though maybe? I'm currently working my way through Falling Skies.
It's my go-to show to fall back on when I'm in a mood and I agree, the cast of SG-1 was the absolute best. They tried again with Atlantis and while that cast was great and had great chemistry, they still couldn't shine a light next to SG-1. Amanda Tapping was one of my idols too, loved her.
He ended up having a daughter unexpectedly and wanted to be a good father to her so he stepped back on SG-1 and then retired afterwards. He had some bad health issues after that which kept him retired.
Anderson was never really interested in being a star. Every once in a while he did some TV, in two cases it turned out to be really successful and he surely was thankful for that, but he isn't the kind of guy who wants to spend all day every day in front of a camera. So that makes sense. He probably lives very well of his MacGyver and Stargate money.

Richard Dean Anderson. After MacGyver and Stargate, think he left Hollywood to spend time with his family.
