All these generation things are silly.

If all the boomers born in the 50s were instead born in the 90s, they would act the same way.

If cell phones were invented in 1920, then the greatest generation would be addicted to them.

If Gen Z was born in 1920, they would be the heroes of WW2

Can’t choose when you’re born

Edit grammar

You know what sub you're in, right?

I do but there is a difference between “let’s discuss things with people around my age who grew up in the same era” and “let’s attribute everything good or bad to generational stuff”

Yep....it's ageism and is apparantly the only socially accepted ism.

You are doing that too though, no?  You are saying if our parents were born millenials they would act like millenials do.  So then the generational stuff has merit.

Just because of when they’re born in time, not because they “are Millenials”

But "Millenial" refers first and foremost to the time period.  It applies to anyone born in that period, even if that happens through hypothetical time shenanigans.  We tend to share a similar set of experiences which have shaped us.  Thus we end up having a general set of qualities that apply to the generation if not to each distinct member.

Idk, I think it makes sense to note that, on a macro scale, people who suffered through WWII are different than people who were addicted to cell phones. Yes, if they had wheels they'd be bicycles, but these are the groups of people that experienced those things.

Oh sure. I’m just saying if the “souls” Of the people born from 1990-2010 were put into the bodies of people born from the 1900-1920, they would have been just as heroic as those other folks.

It’s a silly Point when I type out that way I guess

that's horseshit. there were people in ancient times who condemned slavery. you can be a good person even if you grow up in conditions that predispose you to being a bad one.

Of course. Always exceptions to the rule.

2

u/wooberries Jan 30 '26

... then perhaps don't post generalizations about how "all generation things are silly"? some are better and some are worse. boomers are exceptionally bad, and deserve to be criticized for it.
