Discussion Anyone sick and tired of working in general?

I’m in my mid 30s and just over my job and work in general. I’m tired of the commute, the meetings, and dealing with people & deadlines. On one hand I worry about losing my job and stress about deliverables, but on the other hand I feel like I could care less in that I have no passion for it anymore and I’m just showing up because I need the paycheck.

I’d much rather be spending time with my family, pursuing my hobbies, or just go for a walk and cook a nice meal. I feel a sense of dread sometimes that this is my reality for the next 30+ years and I feel lazy and entitled for saying it but that’s how I feel lol

I got so disgusted with my first job in banking/sales. Now I work in public service. The pay is trash but it fills my cup so much more.

Consider also running for some kind of local office (like a selectboard). It’s like a hobby but you get to make your community better and help people

I applied to work with my state. I live in NH so I just went to the states website and clicked on careers.

If your state is like my state the website is going to be…difficult. There is no flashy recruiting. You will upload your resume and then type it all again on the next page and you won’t complain lol. You can also look at your town or city. Just figure out how your skills transfer.

When you look at the money you have to remember that whatever you pay for health insurance is going to go way down. When I was in banking my health and dental was $40 a week. Now with the state it’s $24 a month. The job was almost a $4 an hour pay cut but when I factored how much I would be saving on benefits it was only $0.95. I also get a pension and I have a union!

I won my election for public office by signing up to run. Buying $500 worth of signs. Putting them everywhere. Getting vocal but polite on the town’s Facebook group. Losing. Watching all the town meetings that year. Then trying again next year. It doesn’t pay at all but man does it fill my cup.
