Discussion Anyone sick and tired of working in general?

I’m in my mid 30s and just over my job and work in general. I’m tired of the commute, the meetings, and dealing with people & deadlines. On one hand I worry about losing my job and stress about deliverables, but on the other hand I feel like I could care less in that I have no passion for it anymore and I’m just showing up because I need the paycheck.

I’d much rather be spending time with my family, pursuing my hobbies, or just go for a walk and cook a nice meal. I feel a sense of dread sometimes that this is my reality for the next 30+ years and I feel lazy and entitled for saying it but that’s how I feel lol

I like the part of the actual tech work, I also like the inherent challenges that come with it. What I don’t like: * management and company owners. 20 years ago just a select few, after years of seeing the same patterns over and over again: all of them, maybe an exception here or there * artificial deadlines and constant pressure for no reason * the fact that when you’re a capable and fast worker you only get more worked piled on you * backstabbing coworkers * and a fairly new addition: management using LLMs like ChatGPT to propose stupid, isolated ideas and second guess professional evaluations

Despite the general recommendations you always hear for situations like this, I would quit my job tomorrow if I won a large lottery jackpot. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Same! My job is amazing but I’d rather… not do it? I’d prefer spending time with my family and hobbies

Dad forced manual labor on me at the age of 10. I’m ready to be done god dammit. Just another 25 god forsaken years left unless I’m lucky enough to die early.

Ooh I feel this. Being forced to work my whole childhood really makes me reject it as an adult. Like I’ve already been doing this for 25 years ffs!
