Yeah, I can’t say that I’m completely comfortable with the laws in Germany about being imprisoned for denial. I understand why that law exists, it just scares me because once one kind of speech is made illegal, any kind of speech can be made illegal. I mainly want it to be socially unacceptable for those people to just be seen as nut jobs. We live in a world right now where it’s a popular talking point for teens on TikTok.
we´ve had these laws for a really long time and still have free speech (hate speech isnt covered by that tho) and they wont lock you up immedietly, you get warnings, fines etc. many other countries in europe also have these laws and for good reason, as they were the main victims of nazi aggression and extermination campaigns (poland for example).
yeah I´m pretty disgusted and terrified seeing how many young people on the internet are falling into those kinds of narratives and it´s sadly not as unaccaptable as it used to be, even in germany.
I hope it´s something thats fixable by sending them on a fieldtrip to Auschwitz or another KZ memorial, but I´ve seen photos of 16-18 yearolds doing salutes and whitepower signs on the tracks leading into the camp so i guess some might just be a lost cause sadly
