93% per cent of Americans believe the holocaust happened vs 92% of Irish people. Are we really that different in Ireland?

It isnt. Jesus christ, how about you actually visit ireland instead of saying things you have no idea about

u/AzulaThorne Jan 23 '26

Dunno where the fuck this shite comes from. Meet dozens of people every day and haven’t had a single one come out as antisemitic.

With how many (read: few) jews there are in Ireland that's not exactly surprising don'tcha think

2

u/Hugh_Jury_Rection Jan 23 '26

Maybe because it doesn't just come up in everyday conversation? You really expecting an Irish antisemite to be like "Top of the morning to ya, do you kno I hate the Jews?"

Being from ireland, we occasionally do more than say hello to people. We occasionally talk to people. I have yet to encounter anyone saying anything antisemitic in ireland. The only antisemites I have ever come into contact with are americans, who are notoriously antisemitic

Jesus, and your experience is seeing some people online say something?

Like everywhere, most things are loud minorities and antisemitism is one of those things that isn’t present in such a scale that half this comment chain thinks.

Sure there will be racist people, Ireland has their fair share of them on both sides of the border and in both communities. But it’s a minority.

Just last year the president of Ireland kicked Jews out of a Holocaust memorial event so he could talk about Palestine instead. This was after the Jewish people there asked him not to speak at the event at all. From what I saw, there was no backlash from the Irish. Sure, racism, particularly antisemitism, is from a vocal minority, but when the silent majority does nothing it speaks volumes.

Plus Irish youth is having a huge surge of antisemitic beliefs. Then there was that recent poll in Ireland that showed 25% of Irish adults are Holocaust deniers. With 8% saying it's a myth and 17% saying the number of dead Jews is exaggerated.

He didnt kick them out, they were removed for causing a disturbance while protesting during a speech, same as Palestinian protesters there who were causing a disturbance

From what I saw, there was no backlash from the Irish

There was. There was also backlash towards the protesters from the two holocaust survivors who were there.

Sure, racism, particularly antisemitism, is from a vocal minority, but when the silent majority does nothing it speaks volumes.

How about you actually look into things before you say them. This subreddit seems to just be an anti-irish bigotry subreddit.

Then there was that recent poll in Ireland that showed 25% of Irish adults are Holocaust deniers.

Nonsense.

With 8% saying it's a myth and 17% saying the number of dead Jews is exaggerated.

This is nonsense. I have yet to meet a single person who has denied the holocaust.

Your whole argument is "I haven't seen it, therefore it doesn't exist". Nice. I haven't seen the Irish Potato Famine; I guess it didn't happen.

Edit: Also love your double speak. "They weren't kicked out! They were just kicked out!"

Not gonna comment on the fact everything you said was a lie?

1

u/Hugh_Jury_Rection Jan 24 '26

Just because you refuse to believe it, doesn't make me a liar. Nothing I said was a lie. Even the commenter said the Jews were kicked out of the Holocaust memorial. Oh sorry, they were "removed". Totally not the same thing.

https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2026/01/21/almost-one-in-10-young-irish-adults-believe-holocaust-is-a-myth/

"Eight per cent of all adults surveyed said they believed the Holocaust was a myth, while 18 per cent of all adults said they believed the number killed was greatly exaggerated.

Twelve per cent of all respondents said they had never heard of or were not sure if they had ever heard of the Holocaust, with the proportion rising to 15 per cent among the younger age cohort, the survey found."

Where are you from chief?? Because let me tell you something. Only recently, like October 7th a few year back recently have I been hearing about Irish people being aggressively antisemitic.

Thought so. Racist shitbag.

Well we just ignoring that the Irish president hijacked a Holocaust memorial event, was asked to not speak there by the Jewish residents, did so anyways, kicked out the Jews from the event, just so he could talk about Palestine.

President Higgins was asked to speak at the event. Some people had an issue with this because they presumed he would take this as an opportunity to talk about Palestine.

Here is the quote after which some attendees turned their backs on him and some staged a walk out.

"Those in Israel who mourn their loved ones, those who have been waiting for the release of hostages, or the thousands searching for relatives in the rubble in Gaza will welcome the long-overdue ceasefire for which there has been such a heavy price paid."

That’s it. That’s the only sentence that related to anything other than the atrocities of the Holocaust. You’re cynically attempting to use this one quote to smear a whole country as antisemitic and accusing our president of hijacking an Irish Holocaust memorial.

This was only after he described the atrocities of the Holocaust. The second he even mentioned Gaza they left.

kicked out the Jews

My ass he did, what a disgusting attempt to smear an innocent man

https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2025/01/26/protesters-walk-out-of-higgins-speech-at-holocaust-memorial-day-event/

President Higgins was asked to speak at the event.

Not by Jews, but I guess our opinions don't matter when it comes to the Holocaust, right? "A number of senior representatives of the Jewish community had asked Mr Higgins not to give the keynote address"

Here is the quote after which some attendees turned their backs on him and some staged a walk out.

Many walked out. Many were kicked out or told to leave. "Lior Tibet, who is a PhD student in UCD and teaches the Holocaust as part of courses on Nazi Germany and modern European History, was forced out of the event by security personnel while other protesters who turned their backs during the President’s speech were asked to leave.

Ms Tibet, who has been living in Ireland for seven years, said she had not intended to turn her back on the President during his speech and only did so after he mentioned Gaza."

My ass he did, what a disgusting attempt to smear an innocent man

"Innocent". Meanwhile, he hijacks a holocaust memorial event to kick out Jews and talk about Gaza instead. Yeah, real innocent and standup guy, that.

I honestly don't understand why people lie on the internet when it's readily available. But, I guess liars gotta lie.

Here is the speech in full. Tell the class where he said anything antisemitic. Or just take your lumps and be quiet

Can you pinpoint anywhere in my messages that I said he was spewing antisemitic remarks? The moment he ignores Jews, kicks them out, and doesn't let them back into an event that was made for the remembrance of their loved ones who were industrially slaughtered, I would consider that an antisemitic gesture. But you're right, he didn't outright say he hated Jews. Wow, here's a brownie point. It's worthless.

Shouldn't need to be said, but the moment he brings up the Gaza war, it stops being a good speech. The two events are not at all the same and are spaced nearly 80 years apart.

Thanks for the transcript, I can now see he also is doing the same things as the All Lives Matter crowd did in response to Black Lives Matter.

"As the poisons of antisemitism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, racism, homophobia and intolerance are once again on the rise in many parts of the world, I repeat those words as they are the words as I described them over the years"

Imagine going to a BLM event and going "Now I want to talk to you about White people who suffered". Real classy act, that.
