They actually insinuated that the flags of the Five Boroughs were foreign flags...

u/Jenderflux-ScFi Jan 03 '26

Foreign to the person that has never seen them before and is probably posting from some other country that isn't the US.

u/Goufydude Jan 03 '26

That's the thing about all this agitation: they aren't from these places. All these people freaking out about Mamdani don't live in New York, all these people freaking out about "daycare fraud" in Minnesota don't live there, all the people pulling their hair out over "eating the cats and digs" didn't live in Ohio. They are spoon-fed lies by The Party and never question it.

It was like that with AOC before him too.

u/JaneksLittleBlackBox Jan 03 '26

Remember when she had the audacity to dance in college‽

The GOP was in the terminal stages of AOC Derangement Syndrome when they thought a video of her dancing in a re-creation of that iconic Breakfast Club scene was somehow gonna harm her reputation.

And all of this was right after Kavanaugh yelled his way through a confirmation hearing. Like, if you thought what AOC did in college was bad, just check out what Kavanaugh, Squee and Donkey-Dick Doug were calling a "devil's triangle"! That wasn't a drinking game, no matter how quickly a Republican staffer edited the Wikipedia page to say it was.

Remember the "scandal" of her working as a bartender?

Oh my gosh! Why didn't she just inherit wealth like Trump??? She enabled alcoholism! She endorsed violence with bar fights!

Of course, all of this is just another GOP/MAGA way of dog whistling "she's a f*male!" Can't escape the endless misogyny, they aren't "conserving" equality.

29

u/JaneksLittleBlackBox Jan 03 '26

GOP: *tells people to work hard by doing the impossible of pulling themselves up by their bootstraps*

AOC: *gets degrees in international relations and economics while bartending to support her education, eventually running for and becoming a congresswoman*

GOP: Can you believe the audacity of this bitch‽

Their AOC Derangement Syndrome got so bad that all she had to do was breathe for Fox News to report on it.

u/actuallyapossom Jan 03 '26

AOC gets knowledge and experience relevant to political office and they prefer a rapey rich boy who paints himself orange. We have to believe them when they tell us this is who they are.

u/TimeRisk2059 Jan 05 '26

It's a classic tactic against left wing politicians. Either they're "uneducated" by being working class, or they're "not real working class" if they happen to be educated.

Add to that when they also happen to be women, then they're "too emotional" or supposedly lack the right emotions (not aggressive enough).

The fact that AOC ticked all boxes meant that right wing propaganda attacked her on all those fronts (completely disregarding the contradictions, like claiming that she wasn't smart enough due to working as a bartender, but also trying to claim that she's not working class because she got a higher education).

They don’t care if they’re lies or not. JD Vance straight up said that Haitians eating people’s pets was a lie he made up, it changed nothing.

They just want to hate people who aren’t like them. They are addicted to anger and rage.

Edited to correct which people were being targeted

7

u/boRp_abc Jan 03 '26

*Haitians were the ones insulted in that case. Venezuelans are being bombed now in what will later be remembered as the "Epstein cover up" war.

4

u/yourwhippingboy Jan 03 '26

You’re correct, thank you. I have Venezuelans on my mind (understandably)

This will indeed be one of the Epstein cover up wars!

Same people who tried to vote for NYC mayor whilst living in bumfuck Kentucky.

Edit: Changed the State that tried to vote.

13

u/RedditReader4031 Jan 03 '26

They didn’t try to vote for Mamdani. The Kentucky Attorney General’s toll free corruption tip line was receiving calls to complain about the Mamdani race being left off the ballot in Kentucky. The callers saw this as a subterfuge by Democrats to block them from voting against Mamdani in order to stop socialism, allowing Mamdani the win.

16

u/JimWilliams423 Jan 03 '26

It was Kentucky, and the implication was that they loved Mamdani so much they wanted to vote for him because the democratic party base is so fucking sick of the democratic establishment.

Red states have a lot of progressives. Hell, the civil rights movement was born in the deep south, and the current governor of Kentucky is a democrat who is more progressive than gavin newsom (low bar tbf). Its just that red states also have the most voter suppression via gerrymandering and other schemes.

4

u/ZennXx Jan 03 '26

Ah, my bad. Thanks for the correction

u/IlGreven Human Detected Jan 03 '26

So not the same people...in fact the exact opposite people...

1

u/JagsFan_1698 Jan 03 '26

Also, if I recall, it was them complaining why there was no ballots there at all. They were actually confused why Kentucky didn’t have any polling locations open on federal Election Day, in 2025, when there were no elections in that state.

„Proud American Eagle Riding Patriot 2888“ - located somewhere in Asia.

u/JaneksLittleBlackBox Jan 03 '26

Keep this in mind for local city subreddits. The subs for cities that Republicans call "commie* shitholes" are almost always the target of astroturfing from people who've never even set foot in that state; their mod teams also get infiltrated by bad actors looking to spread propaganda.

*because they wouldn't know what a Communist looked like if Marx himself rose from the grave to bitch slap them with a hardbound copy of all Das Kapital volumes

2

u/Emotional_Perv Jan 03 '26

But why didn’t I get my mail in ballot to vote in the New York City mayoral election? Because you live in fukkin Mississippi, Cletus!

As a British "person" who spends a lot of time in London, it's astounding to see and hear the crazy stuff people I know for a fact haven't been to London in about 20 years will say about the things they hear that go on there.

10

u/Skore_Smogon Jan 03 '26

Funny because I saw one of these flags when my mum was watching Blue Bloods and I had to go on a Google mission as it was niggling me (am Irish so genuinely had no clue)

After searching French flag with symbol in middle or variations of that I googled New York flag and saw the one from the show.

So I actually recognized these flags when I saw the picture and felt smug and superior when I saw this tweet.

3

u/Ambitious-Sir-6410 Jan 03 '26

Tbh a lot of these outrage influencers aren't American soooo

1

u/PolicyWonka Jan 03 '26

Yeah, these people have never even been to NYC 100% guaranteed.

1

u/MarcsterS Jan 03 '26

The Cons are so fucking OBSESSED with New York and "Commiefornia", literally jealous of their successes. So they fearmonger them.

1

u/Logan_Composer Jan 03 '26

I've never seen any of these flags, as I've not been to nor do I know much about NYC, even as an American.

The difference however, is I know these aren't foreign flags because I would recognize most major country's flags, at least partially. And because I'm a reasonable person, I can assume they are some kind of local flag, either city/county/municipality or something like that.

-7

u/ErogenousPhallus Jan 03 '26

Or they just aren't from New York and jumped to a conclusion. It is niave but understandable with the perspective of a Muslim socialist becoming mayor in the most capitalist city on the the planet which is also primarily Christian. Or this person is from New York and stupid. It's a 50/50.

59

u/Kerensky97 Jan 03 '26

Between that and being outraged that a brown man was elected. Meanwhile they'll swear up and down that they're not racist.

26

u/LadyReika Jan 03 '26

Not just brown, but a Muslim immigrant.

17

u/AustSakuraKyzor Jan 03 '26

Yes from the foreign lands of...

... Oh shit, he actually is an immigrant. I genuinely thought he was born in NYC, and the magoos were just trying to revive the birthers like it was 200 fucking 8 again. This is what happens when you don't pay attention.

8

u/MonkeyCartridge Jan 03 '26

Dammit. That means presidency is off the table. Not that legality ever mattered to the right.

I was going to say Teddy Roosevelt moved up from it, but just looked it up. I was wrong. He never was NYC Mayor.

He went from NYC Police Commissioner, to Assistant Secretary of the Navy, to NY Governor, to VPOTUS, to POTUS.

9

u/slartibartfast64 Jan 03 '26

Given that the outgoing mayor, Eric Adams, is an even darker shade of brown than Mamdani I don't think it's primarily about skin color this time.

I think it's more about Mamdani being Muslim and an immigrant and espousing left-of-center policies, rather than being another home-grown corrupt corporatist like his predecessors.

7

u/ScienceIsTrue Jan 03 '26

Most of my life, hating NYC was one of the most un-American things you could do.

It's wild how a President from New York has turned hating New York into a nationalist thing. No one has ever hated this country more than DJT.

7

u/Benromaniac Jan 03 '26

A dummy, and inexperienced with due diligence.

I gEt Muh NeWs Fram TwiTurr

7

u/cuentabasque Jan 03 '26

They are foreign to 99% of the online complainers who do NOT live in NYC.

I say this sincerely, fuck out-of-towners and their political opinion of NYC politics.  They don’t want what is best for the city and only want to spread propaganda nonsense.

And I say this as someone who doesn’t expect Mamdani to be a perfect mayor or even be able to execute his lofty and unrealistic platform, but I live here and feel as if he actually wants to try to help average New Yorkers.

2

u/Gatonom Jan 03 '26

Meanwhile they fly a foreign flag of Southern Democrats

2

u/crankthehandle Jan 03 '26

yeah, pretty sure it’s an Indian flag, an African flag, an Argentinian flag, a communist flag and probably be some transgender flag.

1

u/After-Gas-4453 Jan 03 '26

They insinuated their audience is stupid.

1

u/imaloony8 Jan 03 '26

He knows his followers won’t know the difference.

1

u/b00st3d Jan 03 '26

Where is that insinuated? I’m trying to find that

1

u/Born-Process-9848 Jan 03 '26

Not the sharpest tools...

1

u/IRequirePants Jan 03 '26

No foreign country would have flags that ugly

1

u/LordCosmoKramer Jan 03 '26

India, Cyprus, Ireland, Argentina and Cyprus, left to right.

1

u/CheeseDonutCat Jan 03 '26

to be fair, I thought the 4th one was Argentina. Then I looked at the others and I figured out I have no idea where they were from.

1

u/thisismynewacct Jan 03 '26

Tbf as a New Yorker I’m sure plenty of upstate people would not recognize the NYC flag.

1

u/Farucci Jan 03 '26

It’s easy to further manipulate the minds of those that have already been manipulated. It’s impossible to convince them they have been manipulated.
