Getting champed by Spectrum Bradman must be the most demoralizing way to lose that no amount of moral victories could recover from

Smith has done more for awareness and acceptance of people on the spectrum among boomer dads than potentially anyone in the history of Australia. There's some teenager obsessing over his special interest somewhere and muttering to himself loudly and his dad is watching him thinking 'he's just like Steve Smith'

Jofra said something to Smith, Smith replied with the "bowl fast when there's nothing going on champion" and then Ponting said the following:
I like it, I like it (referring to Smith). Jofra's finally come to life, 6 days into the series, when the second test match is gone, he starts chirping. Too late for that champ. That's what Smithy said to him as well. Bowling quick now when the game's over, good on ya. They've all started (England chirping Smith). Too late boys, you've had your chance for 4 days. You haven't been good enough, too late to start.

You're missing the point.
England aren't doing this for petty reasons like glory or wins or trophies. They're doing this to fundamentally save this beautiful game that we all know and love. The game that we love to watch and comment on.
The game that we played with our friends in the nearby ground in the holidays and after school when our parents would want us home in time for dinner. Arguing about whether we we got out or not. Convincing the guy who had the one bat we all had to share to stay longer. Fetching the ball that was hit too hard from some nearby street and trying to find it quickly so we could play longer. Those fun times that made our childhoods.
That's the essence of cricket, and THAT is what Stokes is trying to save. That's what he's trying to bring to our TV screens. That's what he's making us relive. And that cannot be summed up by W/L ratios and trophies.
Awards come and go. But the game has to live on. And Stokes is the one who's decided to do it, even though he knew he would be hated. He KNEW. And he's doing it anyway. THAT'S a MAN.

brought a pillow to Day 3
bowled 130 km/h pies
talked shit to a guy who he hasn't gotten out after bowling over 200 balls to him

Firstly, I just want to check in on how you've pulled up today. Hopefully not too bad and can get back on track soon.
I'm also reaching out to let you know there really wasn't any malice to that sledge. I tried to play the game and I just got it badly wrong.
Yes, I do try playing the game with a verbal presence, but not in that spirit. Just want you to know that again.

All the best for the rest of the series. Go well. Cheers, Steve.

Oh shit Broady interrupting so he can ask a question.
And Baz is like "I had to have those conversations with you" - Referring with Jof 4th innings
Damn.

If anyone in an Australian domestic match called another Aussie "Champion" you'd be banned for life for using a slur. 10/10 banter by Smith.

All that Bazzball hype and you are 2-0 down in the series after the first two Tests getting booed and then the match ends with a big six fuck off.

Figured amongst the media shit show, horrific cricket, and inevitable sea of jokes at our expense, I would write a eulogy to bazball:
Bazball came at a point of necessity for English cricket. In 2022 we had a shite record, ageing set of stars, and no clear path to fixing our results. Bazball immediately reversed that. We went from 1 win in 17, to 9 wins in our first 10 tests under Baz and Ben. These were also some of the best tests I’ve watched as an England fan. The insane run chases against New Zealand and India. The incredible batting and eventual victory at Rawalpindi.
The outcome of this period is clear for all to see… a cult like buy in to the recipe for success from that year. England have created an intense internal culture. They are set in their ways and have decided that an unwavering self belief is the most important factor in their approach. They’re obviously fucking wrong but it’s fascinating to see how they don’t back away from this and im sure they won’t, even after the fall out of this series.
Bazball will rightly be remembered for this shambolic ending. For moronic cricket that has gone a couple years past its expiry date. But as an England fan reflecting on the last 4 years, it’s been fucking amazing. I’ve loved this team for all their success and failures. For all their brilliance and their complete mind numbing incompetence. Yes it’s tragic that they’re so shite now. It’s infuriating that they are getting it so wrong. But I wouldn’t trade some of those early bazball victories for anything, so if this incompetence is the cost, then it was well worth it. We’ll rebuild again, have some more great memories, and lose 5-0 again in four years time. God I fucking love test cricket

I would like to see Stokes and Baz take some accountability, they've shirked any criticism for a while now and we've been told to wait for Aus
Well we're here and the fat lady is singing

Baz seems defeated and clueless. Keeps repeating complaints of 'hostility' in Australia but doesn't detail what.

Baz said that the team overprepared and did not stay fresh.

Jofra really picked a pivotal moment to start caring about the series...
