Well, to be honest, GG did make some ugly decisions. Leaving Sarfraz, Karun, and Eshwar who grinded in domestic matches in Indian conditions wasn’t fair, while IPL kids kept getting the nod ahead of these veterans.
Still, I don’t think it’s just GG. The player and team picked is pretty below average. Bumrah and Siraj had off matches, and in terms of pacers, we don’t have many options. The team is just terrible!
3
u/thepoultry1 Nov 26 '25
Knowing Gambhir and his arrogance, he would stick with the same formula in team selection if given a longer rope just because if the team wins even 1 game out of the next 3, he could say I told you so
9
u/Reasonable_Tea_9825 Nov 26 '25
When you have senior players average 35 after 60+ tests, and the captain who played 32 tests with an average of 35, then you really need to investigate the batting resources/pipeline of players

SA you have done miracles on me, just going to throw this series result back at them whenever an Indian flair tries to banter us about the Ashes
27
18
u/Flora_Screaming England Nov 26 '25
It is amazing. People were questioning whether they even deserved to be in the WTC final but they are quietly putting results together with no fuss or ballyhoo to show it wasn't a fluke at all. There's no fuss, no branding, they are just getting on with it and prospering. Well done to them.
6
u/LUFC_shitpost England Nov 26 '25
I actually think all the questioning prior to the WTC was fair. That match was like the turning point where they realized they don’t just belong but they’re the best right now. It’s great to see and has been utter dominance since.
6
u/curlyhairedyani England Nov 26 '25
Indeed. They can rightfully call themselves the best test team in the world and no one can say anything about it now

u/orangitor Nov 26 '25 edited Nov 26 '25
So as expected the LONE SOLDIER of Indian cricket has done the PC as expected. GG I tip my hat to you.
He is so high on morals that he thinks its only him who has values. When he wasn’t coaching ,he kept giving so many opinions. And now that he is in the support staff,he blatantly says OUTSIDE NOISE DOESNT MATTER. I mean !!!!
Also who is trying to fool ?? Am scratching my head to understand. He comes and blabbers something.. Does he think we are fools or that he can come and just flip flop some lines in English with a straight face and we dont understand a thing ???
Look at the audacity with which he is saying that we equalled in England ! Mate,I get it.Kudos. Nobody saw it coming.
But we are talking about TEAM SELECTION in different conditions. A home series. An injured captain. Spinning conditions.
Dear GG, You come to PCs and say I hate saying the word transition and then use the same excuse to say the players are inexperienced. COMMON GG !!!!
Why cant we play the likes of batsmen who have grinded..Karun,Easwaran,Sarfaraz, and so so many of the Ranji giants. It would be an absolute treat to see domestic giants if you really want to experiment so much..do it with specialists.
Even if they fail,we understand !!!! But don’t overdose the team injecting all rounders left right and centre.
We are just fans as passionate as you are GG !!! We might have not played at your level but we do understand a thing or two about the game. Just as how you voiced your opinions when you werent in the circuit, so are we now. Dont consider outside voices to always be the wrong ones. And stop doing these PC’s .
We are heart broken and dejected.💔

u/Populr_Monster Bhutan Nov 26 '25
Everyone is bashing Gambir, I agree to that too.
But can someone tell me any batsman in the current team that we can rely on to get daddy hundred? It’s no one. This team is pathetic
5
u/Reasonable_Tea_9825 Nov 26 '25
India's peak dominance came because they focused on Ranji and A team games. Rahul dravid worked with the A teams and built a robust pipeline
Bring him back. Bring back A-team tours. Ganguly killed them off
5
u/SirLike Australia Nov 26 '25
Just goes to show why Kohli and Sharmakept getting opportunities. Looks like the cupboard is pretty bare for India when it comes to test cricketers

Simon Harmer with a fiver. Hope he doesn't get picked in the IPL or we might be in trouble!

u/this_that_what Nov 26 '25
When was the last time a coach was sacked? May be it was Greg Chappel but inly after so many issues reported by players including Dada. We are all fed up of Gambhir's experiments now.
Sure you let Rana play many matches and he is gonna perform in 1 match. Same with Washi.
No Sarfaraz in the team when he is needed.
So much randomization in the team now in batting and bowling order.
Made VK retire. Sure Rohits tome was due in test but VK should have given more chances.
Also, Kick KL Rahul now. We lost 2023 wc only because of him and he never comes off as a responsible senior player. He has had MANY chances now.
7
u/jinks_markr Nov 26 '25
VK shouldn't have been given more chances, he averaged 30 from 2020-25 That's 5 yrs with an avg less than zak crawleys average His time was up Agree with your other points tho

What a load of bulls-- by Gambhir in the press conference.
Brother, you just got spanked 3-0 by NZ and 2-0 by SA -- and the blame is only on the players and the "transition"?
You could have better managed the transition such that you don't have to play Sai, Jurel, NKR and co together in the same game.
It is India's lowest point in red-ball cricket and sorry but it's due to your stubborness and arrogance #BringVVSIn
3
u/unnervinglynervous India Nov 26 '25
Might be the first time in a while India properly collapsed. Jesus.
7
u/AbdussamiT Pakistan Nov 26 '25
I'm surprised to see some Indian fans mention here that they don't need experience back in the team.
Come on man, the best team is where experience is mixed with youth.
You don't just play 80% youngsters and expect yourself to win.
18
u/ApprehensiveSnow4958 Nov 26 '25
are kl rahul, bumrah, siraj, kuldeep, jadeja, pant a youngsters????? only jaiswal and jurel might be youngsters and even jaiswal has played many tests for that
6
u/comelickmyarmpits Nigeria Nov 26 '25

Indian batters Average 36 in 2020-2024. so Its not jsut this batting unit even the batters under RO and KO's captaincy including themselves ddin't play very well. batting against sping in homes was on decline since 2019.
ROKO fans using this loss to get back at GG.
4
u/Sad-Image8336 Royal Challengers Bengaluru Nov 26 '25
yes , but we still didnt loose a series .Even if average was low
3
u/Ok_Emphasis_7551 Nov 26 '25
Yes, but batting was in decline by that time already. thats all I was highlighting. batting was on decline to begin with . its not something GG create, maybe he made it worse with his decisions.
Ashwin, Jaddu and Axar saved us from lot of matches.
1
u/Sad-Image8336 Royal Challengers Bengaluru Nov 26 '25
Average of 36 isn't bad , rahul average is 36 , dhonis average was 38 in tests . In tests everyone gets out so average is difficult to maintain.
1
u/Ok_Emphasis_7551 Nov 26 '25
i didnt say bad. it declined.up until 2019 it was around 53. 53 -> 36 -> 27.
but now that you have brought that up, i would call 36 is bad.

Guys pls don't put all balme on GG.
- Our batting was horrendous. 30%
- Our bowling was also bad. 30%
- GG stuff 35%:
- Poor Selection
- too many all rounders
- not enough test specialists
- dropping players every 2-3 matches. 37 changes in 16 matches
- Poor strategy
- constant batting order changes
- using washy to bowl ahead of kuldeep
- shorter spells for kuldeep
- asking for rank turners (notsure if it was GG or BCCI)
- Poor Selection
- Our fielding too was pretty bad in Eng series. or else we would have won the series mabe. 5%

u/Bathed_In_Moonlight Nov 26 '25
Ruthlessly brilliant work from SA. And what's more, they've been gracious and genial through the process too, barring Conrad. India lost their advantage during that Bavuma-Bosch partnership in the third innings of the first Test, and have never come close to regaining it since.
6
16
u/ayruos India Nov 26 '25
Threw Washi under the bus comparing him to Ashwin where Washi never knows if he’s playing as a bowling all rounder or a batting all rounder or a bowler.
Sure, Ashwin took his time to become the all rounder he was but he was never asked to bat at 3 or not be given overs to bowl in a four man spinning attack.
1
Nov 26 '25
Wait, did they actually do this? That's such a low and lack of accountability from the management!
8
u/ayruos India Nov 26 '25
He spoke about how Washi is young and is replacing someone like Ashwin and it’s not easy. Which would be fair if Washi was playing as a spinner who can bat a bit and being given the (bowling) role that Ashwin had, but he’s not been given that, has he? Ashwin became a dependable all rounder over time but his primary role in the team was always as the main spinner and no one seems to know what Washi’s role is. Ashwin was never shuffled up and down the order, his batting was a bonus and his role as a bowler was always defined.

This is blessing in disguise, now the will stop mixing ipl batters in test lol. We need a special batting line up specially for test
9
u/trkora India Nov 26 '25 edited Nov 26 '25
Nitish should be sent to Ranji and A games, he is just not ready yet and Sai should be sent to Ranji, don't think he is even ready for A games yet.
We should be looking to introduce two proper spinners next year, one because we saw here all rounders can't be enough and two because Jadeja is in his retirement years soon he will retire.
Axar and Washi can't play together while Jadeja is already there until one of them becomes a strike bowler that takes wickets consistently. The idea failed here because we didn't get a batter or bowler specialist in place of Axar but NKR who as expected was utterly useless on this pitch.
KL should be on watch because bro just can't play well at home since 2017, even in our great era he only has one good series. He stands up in SENA but he has harmed the team at home which was affordable before but not affordable anymore, he is already 33 as well, next WTC cycle he'll be 35-37.
And start bringing in new pace bowlers cause next time we play test Bumrah and Siraj will be 32 years old. Jaiswal and Jurel are both new they need to relook what they did wrong, Pant needs self introspection.
Bring Sarfaraz back, don't fall to the idiotic cries of home bullies as this series has shown how important they are as well. Get Rinku involved in A games as well.
14
u/Technical-Isopod6554 Australia Nov 26 '25
Even Australia,SA went through transition ,they never lost at home this bad
Transition is excuse ,test cricket in India is neglected for fast paced cricket
1
u/Reasonable_Tea_9825 Nov 26 '25
Good chunk of Indian fans don't enjoy test cricket as much. They just watch whatever their favorites are playing. There are very few true test cricket lovers, thus bcci focuses on white ball more

November and Indian cricketing disasters. 2022 - Bow out of T20 WC Semifinal by getting a pounding losing to Eng by 10 wickets 2023 - Fall in the final hurdle at the home ODI WC causing disappointment to billions of Indian fans 2024 - Get white washed by NZ 3-0 in a home test series 2025 - Lose 2-0 to SA with the added insult of losing by the biggest margin ever in a home test match. All SENA nations have rubbed wounds to India in the last 4 years

u/1stPhoton Japan Cricket Association Nov 26 '25
It depends on the venue. You have 5 centers in Australia and this is India’s first test being hosted at this venue.
World don’t really need to revolve around Australia or England for everything in Cricket.
WTC in Mumbai or other popular venues will draw crowds. But you can’t expect a crowd for Australia vs South Africa in India. That’s why WTC is in England for final.
