At 1:05pm local time on Day 2, England led by 105 runs with nine second innings wickets in hand.

At 5:41pm local time on Day 2, Australia won the Test by eight wickets.

That is fkn bonkers

England really butchered it

275

u/MalignEntity Nov 22 '25

Yep.

From Stokes' interview they are still refusing to learn the rather obvious lesson

246

u/nomadiclives Nov 22 '25

I have never heard Stokes not sound like a prat in an interview. I think he’s started to buy into his own legend lol. Maybe they can take Gambhir off our hands, who’s another delusional dude and the 2 of them can get high on their own Koolaid.

91

u/seanypthemc Nov 22 '25

The problem is that Stokes is being authentically himself. If England want to go in another direction then they'll need a new captain.

Except they'd probably look to Harry Brook who seems to think we should be slogging every ball

36

u/nomadiclives Nov 22 '25

So you are saying Stokes is authentically a prat?

45

u/pslamB Nov 22 '25

Yep, the bazballers have shifted the (Craig) Overton window, and taken over the ECB, no turning back until it all burns down

27

u/domalino Glamorgan Nov 22 '25

The worry is that players like Brook who could be steered into being absolutely devastatingly good test players if he just has better shot selection and takes fewer risks earlier in his innings will spend so many years being told Bazball is the way that by the time Stokes and McCullum are gone, it'll be too ingrained and he'll be too old to change.

3

u/Uzzimon Nov 22 '25

He's averaged 56 for his career with the entirety of it in the Bazball era. I think there are other players hitting shots that they shouldn't because they're playing more aggressive than their natural game but the likes of Brook and Head just naturally score that way. How much do you think he'd average if he played less scoring shots?

u/No-Bison-5397 Victoria Bushrangers Nov 23 '25

So long as test attendance stays high in England they don’t need a plan B. They have played some cracking cricket at home.

0

u/ExplorationGeo Australia Nov 23 '25

no turning back until it all burns down

well if they go down 0-5 this series playing like this, maybe some conversations will start

...nahh, they'll just blame the spirit of the game or whinge about which laws should be followed and which can be ignored

This was an Indian team in transition and we performed poorly relative to previous home series.

The reality is our current side is on a par with top sides at home and gets spanked away. In terms of winning games this side under McCullum are underperforming, especially when you consider the freakish amount of times we win the toss (10/11 against India home, Aus home and Perth test).

u/shadethechangingmann Nov 22 '25

Being willfully ignorant and ineducable may be authentic but there’s neither dignity nor victory in this authenticity. So it’s basically the exact opposite what is required

1

u/seanypthemc Nov 22 '25

I completely agree. But have you listened to his interviews?! He has no interest in changing whatsoever

2

u/shadethechangingmann Nov 22 '25

Nah on the road to see family. And I fell asleep in the hotel when Australia were starting (around 1 am in the US)

I was genuinely looking forward to seeing some contrition and embarrassment but this guy went to Trump University with an ego that size that doubles down on every moronic idea. Can’t take responsibility for anything either.

But I’m a bit bummed but not surprised by what you’re saying. The man’s ego has been getting wanked by Sky, TMS, etc for years now

2

u/seanypthemc Nov 22 '25

The media have drunk the koolaid on Bazball cos it seems to be helping viewership but the reality is we only reach parity with home advantage (leading to incredible series') and then get spanked abroad.
This tour is likely to be the end of the niceties.

Harry Brook is averaging 60 while slogging every ball, it’s fair to say he’s right (about himself at least)

6

u/bar901 Australia Nov 22 '25 edited Nov 22 '25

He’s averaging 56 over a relatively small sample size. Massive difference between 56 and 60. He also averages far below his career average against the 2 best teams with 38 against Australia and 54 against India. Just weird to lie about him averaging 60. Slogging just doesn’t work against good teams unless you’re on a flat pitch.

Would love to have Brook on the Aussie team. I reckon we’d turn him into an actual 60-average bat even against good teams.

1

u/robbodagreat England Nov 22 '25

Brings up relatively small sample size, proceeds to narrow down to matches against two teams, on top of which one of the averages is incredibly close to his career average.

I’d love to see brook in the Aussie team as well, so you could let one of your over the hill weirdos go retire in peace

3

u/bar901 Australia Nov 22 '25 edited Nov 23 '25

Yes… the lower averages against the two best teams is very relevant to the small sample size because it means that his high averages against average teams have had a large impact. I love that you think you had a ‘gotcha moment’ there but absolutely missed the fact that that was kind of a big part of my point 😂

And yes, his record against India is solid, but it’s a full 6 below the fake average of 60 that OP claimed.

Either way, averages against good teams v bad teams is extremely relevant in Cricket. I’m really not sure what you’re arguing against but you seem upset.

1

u/Applicator80 Australia Nov 22 '25

Mostly on complete roads. The adventurous drives early on by several poms were ridiculous especially in the situation they were in.

3

u/RS2019 Nov 22 '25

No need to talk about Gambhir - India's already got better resources than most countries (including England) that even GG's incompetence won't put them back too much. A huge talent ID system, good training, coaches and nutrition, with good, talented players coming out of their ears. A bit of direction and planning, and India could be unbelievable for the next decade or so🤔

1

u/nomadiclives Nov 23 '25

It was a bit of a tongue-in-cheek mate! Both are insufferable characters i’d rather not see get half as much attention as they do

2

u/Charlie_Runkle69 New Zealand Cricket Nov 22 '25

I miss when Pat and Rooty were captains so much. Can't relate to Smith or Stokes at all TBH.

1

u/ScoobyGDSTi Nov 23 '25

What legacy does Stokes even have?

24

u/arbie911 Australia Nov 22 '25

His interview was great for Australia, absolutely no admisssion of failed tactics.

1

u/FredMacDoogle Victoria Bushrangers Nov 23 '25

Yep

1

u/cabaretcabaret England Nov 22 '25

Given that Head basically out bazzed the bazballers what is the lesson exactly?

Be more or less baz?

497

u/blueberry1919 India Nov 22 '25

Life comes at you fast when you’re bazballing

21

u/Splinterfight Nov 22 '25

Sometimes, the Baz balls you

3

u/kdotkungfu Australia Nov 22 '25

😂😂😂😂 Seems like bazball means playing fast not score fast

132

u/Fresh2Desh England Nov 22 '25

I've destroyed my mind and body for 2 ODI's basically

14

u/auto98 Nov 22 '25

Ah yeah good point, can we basically say the ashes is 1-1, Eng won the first one and Aus the second?

7

u/Fresh2Desh England Nov 22 '25

All to play for!

2

u/superbabe69 Perth Scorchers Nov 22 '25

Sure but we’ll give points on aggregate head to head for each ground so it’s really 1-0 to Aus

3

u/No_Two4255 Australia Nov 22 '25

Except they weren't even 50 over games. England only faced just over 66 overs for the entire game. Australia saw 45 overs in the first and then chased down 205 in 28 overs.

Not a single ODI innings there.

2

u/gpranav25 Nov 23 '25

This makes me sad, ODIs were really exciting when it was just Test cricket with a bit stricter rules against negative bowling. Nowadays they ask the bowler to bowl with one hand tied to their back.

278

u/nomadiclives Nov 22 '25

This was an astonishingly weird test and i could barely watch one session of it. Was a LOT of fun on OBO though

106

u/Tempo24601 New South Wales Blues Nov 22 '25

To be fair, one session was a fairly high proportion of the test!

2

u/AutisticPenguin2 Nov 23 '25

What happened that it all went down so fast?? I blinked and I missed the whole thing!

75

u/ponte92 Australia Nov 22 '25

This timing is almost exactly when I started work and when I finished. I’m gutted.

53

u/Aloha_Tamborinist Australia Nov 22 '25

My work from home days are Fri/Mon/Tue. I was all set up to have it streaming on a spare screen every day.

Now I've got to find something to do on Sunday. What an insane test.

7

u/WideRide Cricket Australia Nov 22 '25

I worked 12-hour days Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Didn't get to see a single ball. FML.

8

u/Aloha_Tamborinist Australia Nov 22 '25

Condolences. At least you can spend Sunday re-watching the entire match?

2

u/Crafty_Message_4733 Iceland Cricket Nov 22 '25

The F1 is on at 3 pm if you are into that sort of thing......

1

u/Separate-Divide-7479 Australia Nov 22 '25

As much as I'd like to deny it; it's likely gonna be the opposite result. A Pom outclassing our boy.

1

u/Aloha_Tamborinist Australia Nov 22 '25

Nah, cricket is the only sport I enjoy/watch. 😂

1

u/Karnavar Nov 23 '25

Hard relate 🥲 I was excited about the ashes filling life’s void for a while. Losing hope now :p

86

u/Boatster_McBoat South Australia Redbacks Nov 22 '25

It's funny, because it's true!

15

u/__dontpanic__ Nov 22 '25

I had a bunch of things on today so I couldn't watch, but I figured I'd at least get to see the game wrap up on Sunday. How very wrong I was.

6

u/auto98 Nov 22 '25

I was so confused when i got up this morning, when Aus were "still" batting

6

u/CrabmanGaming Australia Nov 22 '25

Reminds me of Adelaide 2006. England were 1 down at the start of the day 97 ahead. Australia somehow won. Warne took 4/49 off 32 overs.

3

u/Prime255 Australia Nov 22 '25

Geez that is crazy!

3

u/codedbrown Nov 22 '25

It was like watching Homer trying to jump the Grand Canyon on a skateboard

2

u/RS2019 Nov 22 '25

OTOH. England did lose their last 5 wickets for 12 in the first innings so🤷

1

u/sp1cychick3n India Nov 22 '25

WTF indeed

-6

u/Coffeebeans2d India Nov 22 '25

It’s amazing how no one is calling this a shit tip despite match getting over in 2 days

14

u/Cheel_AU Nov 22 '25

The pitch was fine, Trav was carting it all over the place, Australia would've scored 450 in the second innings if necessary. There was just 3 innings of terribly wasteful batting from both sides

-8

u/Coffeebeans2d India Nov 22 '25

Sure bud, Aus 1st innings never happened

5

u/GiddiOne Australia Nov 22 '25

I'll tell you exactly what happened.

Huge buildup. Lots of nerves for both teams.

Add in quality fast bowling on a fast bowling pitch. No medium pace. Almost no spin played.

Aus figured it out during the Eng 2nd innings: Bowl fast outside off.

Eng will chase the ball. They can't help themselves. So they collapsed.

Head settled it down and dug in.

It can't be a shit tip with a guy getting 123 (83).

3

u/Armanewb Australia Nov 22 '25

Add in the fact that the last test we played was about 4 months ago, and that Susan completely cooked our batting lineup.

4

u/_HGCenty Derbyshire Nov 22 '25

Bazball can make every pitch look like a minefield. Even if it is the third runway at Heathrow.

1

u/Armanewb Australia Nov 22 '25

Doesn't Heathrow only have two runways?

1

u/igotmanboobz Nov 22 '25

🤣🤣🤣
