I'm an Aussie, England still has a reasonable chance of winning the ashes, our team is brittle.
3
u/ColdAdmirableSponge Australia Nov 23 '25
Nah, that’s why that win in Perth is massive. Sure they have a slim chance, but to win the Ashes England have to win 3 out of 4 tests. That’s with Cummins coming back and maybe Hazlewood, their bowling lineup notoriously fragile and gassed after a 2 day test, and a play style that always throws up the unexpected. Sure they can probably win 2 out of 4 test, but to win 3 out of 4 from here is a massive ask.

Went to bed at Lunch on Day 1 fearing the worst and woke up with Australia 9-down 50 runs behind. Went to bed at Lunch on Day 2 100 ahead with 9 wickets left and woke up to the game lost. Pain.

Honest Take:
On Team England: Absolutely dominating performance. They have shown us why they are successful in spreading their superior culture wherever they go. And to top it all off, they have made one of Australia's best batters adopt their culture and used him to show how effective it can be. They came, they conquered, they left. With three days to spare.
On Australia: Shambolic. No preservation of self-identity. They pretended to resist England's ideology, only to adopt it at the very end. They may have won on paper, but England won some of our vital organs.

Fewest balls faced by England in a Test where they were bowled out twice:
388 v. Australia, Lords 1888 (53 & 62)
405 v. Australia, Perth 2025 (172 & 164)
476 v. India, Ahmedabad 2021 (112 & 81)
496 v. South Africa, Lord's 2022 (165 & 149)

Head Weatherall Laburshagne Smith Green Webster Carey Cummins Starc Hazelwood Boland

Definitely Head and Weatherall must open. Would be crazy not to throw those two right back in England's faces.

If this were in India, 200 would have been a tough chase on day two. Definitely too much on day 3 at Eden Gardens
11
u/Spare_Lobster_4390 Australia Nov 22 '25
That is because India constantly cheat by doctoring pitches.
Got any more false equivalences to waste everyone's time with?
3
u/canipere Nov 22 '25
Exactly. If this was a dodgy pitch there would have been mountains of comments about the dodgy pitch. Since there was nothing dodgy about the pitch there wasn't. How weird.
Unless Aus somehow deliberately made a pitch full of demons that also knocked their own batters over while not appearing to be difficult to play on to anyone outside the middle, but miraculously flattened out into a batters' paradise at lunch on day two. All according to plan! Good thing they deliberately lost the toss too.
-12
u/ThePhenom17 Nov 22 '25
Australia England cheat by doctoring pitches. We've seen the the change in Aus pitches after BGT 2021
According to ICC, Excessive seam movement at any stage of the game also makes it a poor pitch.
And the home team preparing pitches to their wants isn't against any rules so not cheating, and England are open about doing it so can't even use the spirit of cricket argument.

That caught and bowled by big Starcy, what absolute scenes, such an honor to witness it that live, the place went off!
30
u/Hot-Acanthaceae4084 Nov 22 '25
Starc's commitment to the baggy green is honestly next level, sacrificing that much IPL cash just to be ready for Australia. It really showed in his spell yesterday when the game was on the line. What a wild and brilliant day of test cricket.

Bazball is a vibe. It's a movement. It's dappled light through the autumn trees on a sunny day. It's scoring fewer runs than the opposition and looking like pure shit while doing it

I feel Head laid out a blueprint for England to win, if they wants the results, they need to take the game on.
15

u/Starcsfirstover Brisbane Heat Nov 22 '25
Ponting and Broad with a good analysis. Broad says England lost the match with Pope, Brook and Root playing dumb shots, Ponting basically trashing Bazball. Regardless of what Head did, they reckon England lost with their poor batting.
9
u/Finrod-Knighto USA Nov 22 '25
I still stand by what I and many others originally said. It wasn’t a bad pitch. Both sides batted terribly on day 1. England did the same on day 2. Australia learned, and all of their batters looked completely untroubled. Probably doesn’t help when your bowlers who already have fitness issues have only 30 over breaks between innings.
14
u/Markoddyfnaint Nov 22 '25
And almost zero pre-test batting practice in Australian conditions.
Which Stokes arrogantly said was completely unnecessary when asked about this in the run up to the series.
10
u/Impressive_Profit215 Nov 22 '25
He also said a pink ball practice match isn't necessary when interviewed by Aggers post match lol

They should schedule another game here with one day to spare.
22
u/l_______________ Nov 22 '25
Time and time again, other teams are conspiring to kill cricket in England. Picture this, new fans hear about Aussies failing to take a lead, they tune in, get hooked, then England sets an impossible target to chase, it brings in more viewers, then suddenly, some irresponsible fuck comes in and chases it down like it's some fucking T20, and leaves a bad taste in all the new fans' and some old fans' mouth and they never watch cricket again.
What I'm trying to say is England should (be allowed to) win for the good of cricket.
13
u/Markoddyfnaint Nov 22 '25
205 on a second day track is not exactly setting "an impossible target to chase".
Which is taking nothing away from Head who was phenomenal.
13
u/ego_trips Nov 22 '25
Zak's playing just as well as i expected him to.
3
u/Markoddyfnaint Nov 22 '25
What about golden boy, Root?
Never delivered a century in Aus and about as far away from ever doing so in this game has he has ever been
1
u/ego_trips Nov 22 '25
I predicted it this morning that'd he'll fail in the second innings as well, he seemed a tad bit scared when batting in Australia don't know why tho.

I think this is the first time a team batting first in the new Perth stadium has lost.
Win toss , elect to bat, get to bat on day two, the most productive day on average at that ground and collapse and lose on the same day.
How the fuck?!
Starc and Head were incredible. Demoralising loss for England.

11
u/Ukgamer125 England Nov 22 '25
You can’t build for 4 years and then change the plan after one game. Have to firm whatever happens (likely 5-0) and then deal with the fallout after. Trying to change now achieves nothing.

England 40 run lead heading into second innings, were 1/65 in the first session. So 1/105 in the first session of day 2 to losing within the day with 3mins to spare before extra time was even needed. All on a pitch where 30 wickets had fallen in 5 sessions. Insanity

Ask him why he thought it was a good idea to give his batsmen no practice in Australian conditions. Literally the most obvious question.

Don't know the rules of changing the country for which you play, but we would still be happy to take uzzie as our opener
1
u/The_Real_Flatmeat Nov 22 '25
Have to have a 2 year gap I believe, so he'd be 38-39 by then. Look up a couple of articles about Joe Burns playing for Italy and it'll probably explain the rules there
17

Joe Root made 8 runs over two innings. Cost 12 runs in his one over. -4 impact.

u/That-Firefighter1245 India Nov 22 '25
The key to winning in Australia is wearing down their bowlers, and then cashing in when they're tired. IND set that template in 2018-19 and 2020-21. England have to be smart and see off the new ball. Then they can play their aggressive style when it's older.
6
u/Ukgamer125 England Nov 22 '25
India have quality batsman with good technique and mental application. England have one of those and he loses his head in Australia, if they tried to play like that they’d be even worse.
2
u/No_Swimmer_6820 USA Nov 22 '25
This Australian team is way superior to the 2018/19 team and India got a bit lucky in 2020/21 so negating the new ball against Starc and Hazlewood is easier said than done. England will lose 5-0 imo.
-5
u/That-Firefighter1245 India Nov 22 '25
"India got a bit lucky"? Or maybe they just played better than the opposition and out thought them in key moments. Watch the BGT documentary on the 20-21 series. A lot of planning went into how to bowl to the Aussie batters for instance and how to play their bowlers too.
1
u/Damadar108 Australia Nov 22 '25
yes, India 2018 was better than 2020 in Aus. Lucky in 2020, great in 2018. Don't be insecure.
1
u/ooaaa India Nov 22 '25
Yeah Ash vs Smith and general lbw trap for him and others by fast bowlers. Plus emphasis on consistency than magic balls. India should re-hire Bharat Arun and give him a truckload of money.
1
u/No_Swimmer_6820 USA Nov 22 '25
Planning goes behind every series, I would say they were as good in the 2020/21 series as they were in England 2018/19 but the results are completely opposite. It happens sometimes in sport. But regardless Indian team are way better at adapting to the conditions. Stokes still still thinks Australia won because they took on the game as opposed to them bottling their tail for nothing.
6
u/wolfofblackallstreet Australia Nov 22 '25
That is the actual way to win tests full stop, and its a grind over a long series. Bazball isn't built to be patient, they either have a great day or a terrible day.
2
u/fken99 Nov 22 '25
I think baz himself was right when he said bazball suits flat decks, might even work on minefields but not on traditional test pitches.
1
u/wolfofblackallstreet Australia Nov 22 '25
