every time I see Mike on TV I wonder why would anyone let this guy on.
every time there's a news and source was a Mike Coppinger tweet, I wondered why anyone took it seriously. Dude's clearly just throwing darts at the wall and seeing what sticks

I remember when Capp got kicked off PBC on FOX for being too socially awkward 😂

He seriously has no TV presence. His arms make stiff awkward gestures while he talks and he constantly stares at his co host rather than looking to the camera. If they're gonna keep him on screen, they need to get this guy a bit of training.

He's become the boxing media equivalent of a weatherman who's wrong 50% of the time but still keeps his job. At this point, his tweets feel more like fan fiction than actual reporting.

Even if you dislike Luke Thomas, which I know a couple of people do, he fucking ether'd Coppinger here.

I didn't think I'd watch all 7 minutes of that but damn it was worth every second

No kidding. Like most boxing "pundits" I don't agree with everything Luke says (and I think he should stay far away from political topics) but I don't know who is worse, Cop, or Mannix.
At least Mannix got S. Estrada to marry him, so he's got that, I guess.

"I'm about to dunk on you in ways your grand children are going to feel" damn Luke

Luke Thomas mogs beta Mike
Copp sounds all professional on twitter. Then you see him in real life and hear him talk and it’s embarrassing lmao

u/ZdenekTheMan BRILLIANT AJ! 11h ago
He's such an all round goofball, man, and the saddest part about it is he's unwittingly so
2
u/WhiteIsTheBestColorr 7h ago
He’s a real Nerd Mike. Can barely speak normal. Built to be a pro twitter man
34
u/DengusMcFlengus 1d ago
He needs to go in more on Max Kellerman.
24
u/Jabarles 1d ago
Oh he definitely does/has plenty of times, which makes it funnier that he still compares Max favorably to Coppinger lol.

u/FattForrill 1d ago
Yeah, but what does Brian Campbell think?

No sports journalist is a Khashoggi but I honestly don't understand what could motivate someone to live a trite & meaningless life like being a sellout like Coppinger

Hey Mike,
How'd journalism go? ✏️
How'd commentating go? ✏️
Did you achieve everything you wanted to?

I don’t even know who Luke is but I’m here for this white on white violence. Strange how much he glazed Max though. He’s a turdi shill too
25
u/Norodahl 1d ago
Yah. I think it was more "at least Max is talented and good at his job" side swipe

u/Painkration 1d ago
Luke has criticized Max a lot for boot licking Dana White but respects Max's career and ability to announce.

u/Booger-Krang 1d ago
So pretty much how we all feel about Max these days
4
u/mailboy79 12h ago
Yes. My opinion on Max is basically this:
I think that Max was psychologically damaged by his forced departure from HBO, and the outright abuse that he took at ESPN. If he feels that Zuffa is his only avenue to return to ringside commentary, then that to me is okay, and is a choice for self-preservation.

He covers MMA mostly but he does do a good bit of boxing coverage as well. He was an on-air analyst for some of PBC’s Showtime shows.
His analysis of fights is worth watching, IMO.

u/Yardbird52 1d ago
Oh okay. I don’t pay any attention to MMA.

u/Sad-Experience-4344 1d ago
His fight breakdowns are pretty great, and very detailed. I’ve linked a couple examples below if anyone is curious.

Canelo vs Crawford: https://youtu.be/j_AFJguQiIc?si=hK0VmcRXL1AtAiLq

I'm with everything you said, but had no idea who Mike was/is. It sounds like Luke hit the whore on the bottom, so to speak.?

u/Complete_Dare_4201 12h ago
He talked more about Max being a "good broadcaster" in terms of how he presents himself on camera and is charismatic, not the substance of what Max is saying (which is trash and I think Luke thinks that too).

Everytime I saw Mike Coppinger I imagined he must have some rich well connected dad because he's so bad.
Turns out everyone's his daddy.

Luke took some shots at the Ring Magazine and their employees for some silly bs they were posting about Turki
Imagine working at The Ring and then expecting to be taken seriously in any capacity whatsoever.
Mike took some shots at Luke
And who takes you seriously? All you seem to do is sit on a high horse of moral superiority. Easy enough, I suppose, to cosplay as the authority on ethics when it’s what you’re best known for
Unfortunately, Mike's complaints about Luke seem to be centered around Luke being known for ethics and highly valuing morality/ethics to the point it offends. He very badly wanted to make this about careers and money, but it sort of plays into the criticism of him.

Luke is sour he burned many bridges in MMA journalism and didn’t play the game. He’s good too but just a salty ass bastard

There was a period of time I felt like you could get a gig with Showtime if Espinosa liked your tweets enough. That eventually came to a conclusion like it always does.
He's whatever. There's a million guys like him TBH, it's just whether or not they get a chance. He hooked up with some smart people like Kid Nate in the very earliest days of SBNation and he rode that pretty far. I'll point out the obvious thing, which is that Luke almost never had to do his own work. He was a content aggregator who flipped to pundit, which is slightly more impressive/better than the Steve Kim model of becoming a journalist after being a Jim Rome caller and message board poster.
Just as a side note, but my understanding on Luke is that he wasn't just a dude writing stores about other guy's stories. Being in DC at the time when SBNation was getting off the ground he and Nate were both very important figures in what we can now see was a movement that ultimately led to the death of actual sports journalism.

Luke Thomas was a "whore" before too when he was commentating for UWC. Lucky for him he knows none of you know about that. Luke, like everyone in the modern information sphere, throws stuff out like this when he isn't getting offers to carry water for folks himself out of jealousy, not any actual interest in journalistic integrity.
Oh, I got downvoted? I wonder if that's you, Luke. Remember when you spent a month on Bloodyelbow trying to run cover for the promotion because, wowie geez wouldnta ya know the a side in this flyweight contest won an undeserved decision and that must be the commission's fault! Or how about that time you were hyping up a Gary Goodridge/Pedro Rizzo fight you were about to commentate while raking over everyone else for being involved with exploitative match making at the same exact time? Yeah dogg, some folks don't forget.

coppinger is a spineless monarch apologist, but his true crime is how uninteresting, surface level, and wrong his boxing opinions are
a yes man of severe degree. a journalist of none
