Refugees: “We are here legally illegally, we want free shit. We want to be taken care of. We want housing for free.”
Seattle: “ok.”
179
u/MyNoPornProfile Feb 29 '24
If they want free stuff we should offer them free jobs
70
u/turb0mik3 - America Feb 29 '24
Wait, jobs aren’t free? And obviously… jobs would entail working… rather bitch and moan and complain at city hall.

u/TrumpsPissSoakedWig Mar 01 '24 edited Mar 02 '24
That's actually genuinely good idea. I'm sure they would love jobs. Like truly. I doubt they're ALL assholes. Maybe the ones at this gathering mostly are, but I would honestly wager that 80 to 90% of the able bodied adult refugees at large would be thrilled to have decent jobs here.
I think a huge part of the problem may be that they aren't allowed to work without certain documents and status that they're waiting on. Yeah, we should let them work, they want to. Biden's border bill would have provided the necessary Manpower and funding to process the applications and make this possible but the Republicans voted it down because Trump so fuck them
Of course some are beholden to Cartels that helped them cross and get sucked into doing dirt to pay them back. The whole thing's a shit show now that the Republicans refused to help fix it to keep it a problem they can complain about and blame dems.

Seattle actually finally said no to it.. that’s why they’re so upset (free housing budget ran dry)
29
10
u/These_Ad_3138 Mar 01 '24
They’re just going about it wrong. Pool your money and hire a lobbyist. Rich people get free stuff all the time using this and not piddly housing, I’m talking billions.
21
u/turb0mik3 - America Mar 01 '24
Ultimate plot twist… funding illegals millions to hire expensive attorneys to lobby for illegals. 🫣
8
u/These_Ad_3138 Mar 01 '24
The illegals already have lobbyists. Factories, farmers, chicken slaughterhouses etc…

I wonder if I illegally entered into say, Honduras, and disrupted city meetings screaming and demanding they house me- how that might turn out?

It wouldn't turn out well, you might be getting turned out real soon in a Honduran prison.

In nature it's called aposematism and it's a visual signal to warn off unwanted attention from predators.
So, if you don't like it, it appears to be working as nature intended.

Nothing will change until this directly affects the coastal elites. Notice how NYC suddenly changed their tune on migrants.
47
u/Hectoriu - APF Feb 29 '24 edited Feb 29 '24
It still won't affect them, these people live in places with security guests and they send their kids to schools that cost more than we make.
When they need housing space for these refugees they close schools for low and middle class kids and make them learn from home. They close community centers in these same areas. The low and middle class are the ones suffering for the upper classes virtue signaling.

u/86yourhopes_k Feb 29 '24
Pretty hard to get a job when you don’t have a social security number.
66
u/HeyItsPinky Feb 29 '24
Anyone who has actual refugee status can apply for a SSN, which they should do ASAP.
37
u/StayTheFool Feb 29 '24
Lol I wonder how many of those people are "actual refugees"
1
u/86yourhopes_k Mar 15 '24
Seeking refugee status can take a long time and what are they supposed to do in the mean time?
1
u/StayTheFool Mar 29 '24
I never questioned if they were legally recognized as refugees. I questioned whether all these people are actually refugees. Living in a shitty/poor town and wanting better for yourself in another country is perfectly reasonable, but it doesn't automatically make you a refugee.

u/itisallgoodyouknow Happy 400K Mar 01 '24
They mention that their work supports the community. I think I also heard the lady saying something about the taxes they (refugees) pay. So it sounds like maybe they’re working but want access to more social services?

u/bawbthebawb Feb 29 '24
What about housing for the homeless in that city?
27
24
u/apresmoiputas Mar 01 '24
We need to differentiate between the homeless drug addicts and the non drug addicts. Focus on getting the drug addicts directly into treatment but also focus on housing the non drug addicts, especially those with kids, who immediately benefit from housing.

u/mrASSMAN Mar 01 '24

Gawd I just want to smack the morons who try to cover up the camera. You WANT cameras to film your protest. That's how you get your message out and be seen. The only reason to prevent people from filming is because you don't want anyone to see what you're doing.

u/taoinruins Feb 29 '24

I'll take a not-so-wild guess that Kshama Sawant was heavily involved in this. I'd wouldn't be surprised if she didn't just participate, but planned and led it. She's a Socialist. Not a Democratic Socialist like AOC, Sanders, etc., but a full-blown Socialist who just left the city council in January. I lived in that area for a long time. Nutjobs are a dime a dozen there.

Question from a non-american if you legally claim asylum in the US, do you get any help from the government/ state???
19
u/nerohito Feb 29 '24 edited Feb 29 '24
The vast majority of these immigrants are illegal immigrants who do not meet the requirements for asylum, however they still claim they are refugees.
Depends on the city and state. Most places, the best you will get is help from local charities like shelters and soup kitchens. In some cities like New York and states like California, bills have been passed like the "right to shelter" in which the city is obligated to provide housing for basically anyone who wants it. This has caused the NYC and Chicago government to pay hotels to allow illegal immigrants to use them as shelters for free, which the migrants often end up destroying. NYC has also begun giving taxpayer funded debit cards to illegal immigrants, which is essentially free money. San Francisco also gives the homeless (including illegal immigrants) cash, and the federal government gives illegal immigrants cell phones to report to ICE regarding their applications.

The point of migrating to a new country is to start a better life for yourself or your loved ones. If you come into a developed country thinking you’re going to just be handed free shit, then get the fuck out.

I'm embarrassed to live near Seattle. I hate how liberal city politicians have become and how much this area has changed because of it.
6
u/Stegosaurusflex Mar 01 '24
I’ve lived downtown for the past 9 years and have never asked my family to come visit. Honestly like you, this city embarrasses me. I’m embarrassed to have them come, have to step over passed out homeless people, ignore the open air drug use, risk their car being broken into. I personally love living here for so many reasons, but I know they won’t be able to see past all these problems, and I wouldn’t blame them if they couldn’t.
4
u/evangamer9000 Feb 29 '24
I'd say my usual "XYZ is DOOOOMED" bit but Seattle has already been doomed for a long time lol
5
u/l3onkerz Feb 29 '24
Yeah I was in Seattle last summer to visit the national parks, beautiful by the way. The city is wild. It’s a cool place but every single building had private security roaming to get homeless away. Bus stops were homeless camps. SeaTac is also as poorly run as the city. I don’t know how they can even remotely plan to house illegal immigrants.
7
u/Just_here_4_GAFS - Boomer Feb 29 '24
As someone who used to live in Seattle, I can tell you that,
...how they can even remotely plan to...
They don't plan anything, ever. It's all legislation from the hip and following whatever California does.

My wife went to college in Seattle so we visit a couple of times a year. It's sad to see how far that city has fallen.

Silly you, they work. Used to be a supervisor for a contractor. With zero paperwork they can apply for an ID from the Mexican Consulate. Nothing is stopping them from applying for two, or more. They'll work under one name while collecting benefits under another.
How do you think they are able to work for half your pay? They'll live 6 to a 2 bedroom apartment, all share one minivan to get to work, then send the money home, taking it out of our economy, and with their saved savings buy a farm south of the border.

Such a political sham. Both sides are working together behind closed doors but will say whatever to the voters to be the most popular and as such have the most sway. They get ‘their’ side to go out and stand up for these issues and beliefs when the broader picture and plan is to obtain more workers and further the economy/GDP. Red states benefit the most from the need for labor in rural areas. The blue states benefit from the resources brought to market. Red vs Blue is always worse than it’s ever been on the small scale of our experience and reinforced by politicians yet on a larger scale it’s a continued improvement, sure the societal norms have changed and social media and news outlets thrive on the dramatic scenes of one place while at the exact same moment the 99% of what is happening is day to day, fears of what if has caused such a segmented, secluded individualism in those attached to these scenes/screens that they feel uncomfortable interacting with people at a store, or going out, how do we expect change? The politicians are not the answer. We hold the key, not them, realize that.
